The narrator is very opinionated for his own taste and for the general condition of any listener's ear drums!!! Aggravated, he almost borders on caustic detestation for the monarchy!!!!
I personally find it unnerving that Camilla Parker Bowles was allowed to marry into this family. It's caused me to lose respect. Not to upset anyone or to start an argument, this is only my opinion. I believe it was in bad taste for Charles to marry his long time mistress.
@bette1908 That's correct. His christian name was Albert but was known inside the family as "Bertie" but when he became king in 1936, he adopted his father name "George" (VI).
@324wilson Ahhh I knew someone had married a "Bertie." The way they keep using the same names over & over it gets hard to keep up with who is who. did you know they consider the name John bad luck in that family?
Contrasts: Edward VIII & Edward, Duke of Kent (E.VIII’s great grandfather ).
E. DofK separated from his love, M. St. Laurent, to marry and have a child (Q. Victoria ).
E.VIII, abdicated the English throne to marry his love, Wallis Simpson.
E. DoK restored the Gibraltar Colony in 1803, but was criticized.
E. VII was criticized for abdication, but perhaps he intended to deceive Hitler and position himself to moderate harsh subjugation of England if America remained neutral, and Germany won?
The writing in this so called documentary is so melodramatic. Its like watching a historical tabloid or a cousin of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"
@Rotebuehl1 Hi. Edward VII's original coronation date had to be set back a few months because he came down with qppendicitis and needed emergency surgery (appendectomy). The St Edward's Crown is very heavy, and was considered too heavy for the king to wear because he was still in a weakened state and recovering from the surgery when the coronation finally took place. Hope that helps.

Should have toned it down a notch!

This gentleman is annoying. British history is much better told by Simon Schama. Love him. He's quirky too but not as aggravating as this guy!!

I don't like this narrator at all. And Victoria called her husband Bertie, not their son.
bette1908 5 months ago
@bette1908 No, Victoria's first son was known as "Bertie" in the family.

@324wilson Hmmm....maybe I'm thinking about the Queen Mother's husband then, before he was called George

@Seriously164 ME TOO David Starkey does good stuff but his narration is scary. It only works with very very tense topics.

A United Kingdom without a monarchy is like spaghetti without the noodles and sauce. It doesn't make sense.

Does anyone know answers to these questions?
1) what "changes in contents" in parliament did E VII propose, before he got "slapped down" by the PM?
2) What "sudden illness" prevent E VII of wearing St.Edward's crown?
I really would like to know more..
