That room looks awfully small, what number did you stay in? Apparently room 100 (where sid and nancy stayed) was renovated and made into two seperate rooms to stop people wanting to see the room as a 'shrine'
Don't confuse the place that Dylan hung out at with this place. Apparently they are not the same. Again, my feelings were mixed because the staff were decent people and it was as advertised, but the decor was amazingly barren.
I'm not prepared to address the drug usage issue(although the proprietors discouraged eating in the rooms....) but this is NOT the same hotel that Dylan stayed in. It's jsut a small corner place a couple blocks form the more Dylan-esque Chelsea Hotel.
The intent of the video was never to dissuade customers from doing business with the Chelsea Star Hotel. Much of what I was amused by related largely to the idea that I am not a native NYC resident, and some of the issues that plagued me are common to many hotels around town, the largest being the nearly complete inescapability of outside city noises. As I prefer to travel light and inexpensive it's quite possible I might stay there again if they decide to do something about the bed noise.
It was a costing issue. Besides, I was not completely unhappy with the place, just amused at the level of good and bad, and the impressive use of polished diamond-pattern deck plating. Despite all the drawbacks though, I couldn't find myself to hate the place, just be amused by it. My son tells me Bob Dylan stayed there before...
