I'm getting a root canal soon but I'm not scared. Even if it does hurt, that few minutes of pain is worlds better than the endless nights of toothache, trying to sleep, trying to get comfortable, thinking of ways to reduce the pain. My dentist sorted mine today to stop the pain before the RCP by opening it up, cleaning out most the tooth and giving me anti-biotics. Didn't feel the anaesthetic but could still feel the tooth :( worth it though.
This is my third root canal, no pain at all accept for the needles. Price was vary expensive I don't know if they where trying to rip me off or if the price is suppose to go up. Last root canal was around 900 this time it was 2031!

from what i heard is i guess from all this research i keep doing is. If the nerve is dead then you won't feel as much, but if the nerve is not dead then it does hurt. But what i don't understand is supposely they are doing it if the nerve is already dead and they are just trying to save the tooth,. However the dentist i went too the other day told me that they will be saving the nerves when i asked him. Does NOT make any sense to me at all.
I had a root canal on one of my teeth and the pulp was removed etc two years later i was back at the dentist for a check up and she said there was a fistula or something in my mouth draining the pus from the tooth that had the root canal on it into my mouth. I have to either get a root canal again on the same tooth or be referred to the dental hospital and get a small procedure done where they cut open and drain the pus and remove the root to stop it happening again.
just had this done 30mins ago... the only part that hurts a bit is the first shot and when they take the nerve out.. other then a little pinch.. nothing big,,
@Killitwithfire92 you might still have a piece of your root in your tooth or nerve or possible the dentist didnt get all the infection out and now its barried under the filling just brewing again.. i really think that might be it

The root canal is not painful at all . What is much more painful is the pain of the infected tooth . Root canal actually relives the pain :) . They give a small injection in your gum before doing the root canal procedure ...that only feels like a small prick in your gum . After that you don't feel anything . They actually kill the nerve & block it off during the root canal ..so essentially your tooth is dead during the procedure so you don't feel anything at all .
You are awake ..it doesn't hurt at all as they give you a small injection to your gums before the root canal so you don't feel anything at all . You just feel a bit of pressure & tightness on your tooth but no pain whatsoever so don't worry about it .
@HorseyHeather1 I just had a root canal done 2 days ago. There was 0 pain during the process. It kind of was a very dull pain later on in the day, but i just took two advil and it was gone. If you put off a root canal too long you'll loose the tooth and they'll have to just extract it. The only thing that hurts is just holding your mouth open for so long lol. Took about 30 - 45 mins for mine.
@isabella8885 My cost me $4800 & was no garanty because went back. Now the dentist that I have said that solution is replace by another root canal. Can you believe it? While my real teeth was there I never was worry about nothing, soon that those Dr's that they call their self Dr's check me all troubles come behind
@azalori totally wrong you should let the dentist know what you think and of course that he explains every single thing to you it is the law and i know some doctors call themselves dr. and the have no ethics so you let him or her know.
I had my root canal done today.... Once they lace you up with novacaine the procedure is painless.. I didnt feel a thing... The after affects is a little swellin, a little pain, and a little ichy and u have to get use to biting down again... But its all worth it because that tooth ache will be gone for good.
@HorseyHeather1 If you don't go to the dentist for a root canal, eventually you will get an abscess. That part of your jaw with the infected tooth will fill with puss and cause you constant pain. You'll need surgery!! GO TO THE DENTIST!!!!!
@4365710 I never had pain, I never had a abscess. I went for a simple cleaner. I endup in a root canal, the surgeon told me you are garanty that never is going to be afeccted. 8 years later a new dentist telling me you need another root canal in top, because some infection read by xray detect in my gum. How you like that.
It hurts like hell after the numbing wears off and the Motrin doesn't do a damn thing. Post-procedure is the worse part of the entire process in my opinion.

It didn't hurt at all, the doc was the kindest ever, asking me all the time if I can feel anything. I felt pain 2 tiny times, got pain relief right away, so it was nothing scary. She even showed me the dead nerves she pulled out. They were ugly, and smelled so bad because of the infection!!
Root cannel doens't hurt it relives you off pain, i had to get one because the dentist failed at putting a filling in anyway, it was so good i wish i could have stayed longer the feeling of her pushing the puss out felt so good worth 900$ :D
@stevenhan331 about 30+ minutes and about 3 days so like you know 30mins+ a day time flys though and i don't recall any pain like i said as soon as they numb you, just awwww feels soo gooooood
I have a cracked tooth... no sign of decay. The pain is not very bad... in fact, it's pretty much non-existent, except for when chewing on that tooth. Is it going to hurt more if the tooth is not hurting very badly before the procedure?

i think i have an infection and will need this kind of treatment. I hope it will hurt badly because if it will, it will at least teach me a lesson to take care of my teeth (i am not implying my oppinion on all people that have bad teeth but only giving it) I will gladly accept all the pain and actually hope that the signature of pain shall remain in my mind. To remind me not to forget to brush my teeth before bedtime :)

@tuiteruno4 If he/she is a good endodontist, it will make you feel so much better when it's done. If you have anxiety issues, speak to the endodontist about it before your procedure. They can use different methods to get you relaxed.

You know you don't have to have your dentist perform the root canal. There are specialized dentist's called Endodontists, they only perform root canals. I know my dentist wanted to try and fill mine but there was only a 30% chance it wasn't going to need a root canal. So I called an endodontist and she was amazing :)
@NickHasMorningWood I had it redone because the place that did it the first time in march put me through all that pain and they didnt even do it right. When I had it redone it didnt hurt at all!
The only reason it is painless cause the dentist freezes your mouth, i had mine done a few weeks ago and im 13, just wanted to see what was happening, cool vidieo just more of my tooth was taken out =]

The only thing unpleasent about a root canal is the (thankfully optional) nitrous oxide. DON'T use that shit if you have an empty stomach.

If its a back tooth they will most likely just pull it out thought if it's a front one they will just fill it in.
