hey mike i actually do that using corel draw, apart from mimicing websites i make my own layouts too, even though right now i m starting out as a fresher i know what and how the layouts should look like so yeah pretty dead on advice there, thanks :).
love it... you mentioned about big projects? mabe you can give us a behind the scenes about how you made it... the ups & downs... and more videos... :)
A great practice thanks. I am currently working on my first 'fake" site as you recommended in your last vid. Maybe I'll send it your way when I am done. I really appreciate all your vids. Oh and I bought my first design software and went with Fireworks. Great move and am loving it. Mahalo.
@tylerdurden2006 You should never make a website in photoshop, ever haha. Its fine to make images for your site in photoshop but never use photoshop generated code.
@tylerdurden2006 Well first if you are doing the site for a client I would show it to them to see what they think, they may want some changes. No point in spending time coding a design that the client doesnt like. After you get there approval on the design then I'd code away :)
@tylerdurden2006 I think the idea is to have a good look at the design's details and techniques, so just recreating that in Photoshop should be fine for that. But coding it as well would be good practice!
Nice video, Mike. I'm also a web designer and I was just having a conversation with my boss a few days ago about the benefits of this kind of exercise. I think it's one the best techniques for anyone - not just beginners. You can't help but learn something new each time.
I'm in the process of re-desining my site for the first time since starting my business. You gave me a lot of good feedback so I'm using that + looking at the best web hosting designs in the industry for inspiration.
I completely agree with what you say about taking small design nuggets from sites. It could be a certain shadow, gradient, border effect.
I'd love to show you my re-design once finished if you're not too busy (if you are no problem).
I tried looking at other websites and tried mimicking them. I learned a couple of things. 1) I really suck at mimicking. 2) don't use your keyboards after eating a bag of flaming hot cheetos.

You should make a video on how to identify fonts, I'm pretty sure that a lot of us have problems with it ;)

Do you suggest building sites you find in photoshop or coding as well?

@cm999 Oh no I know that lol. I mean once you've designed it in photoshop is it a good idea to code it afterwards - obviously in another program.

Hey mike do you think that your audience may benefit from a small Forum, where other experts can also how out some of us novice designers.
