i am a stihl fan. although, i feel that the topping saws are junk. all of the commercial pieces are worthy, otherwise. was the cutter in this video snorting anything b4 the video was made?
I've owned a shit load of saw and you couldn't give me a Stihl! Jonsered is my favorite because of the performance to weight and dykes ring it uses. But also love my Husky's just harder to start because of compression. Nuff said.
But times may have changed since both companies are owned by the same company and they might be doing more for Husky then Jonny
If you like to clean your air filter everyday and love vibration by all means buy the Stihl
my friend bought a husky and had a prob from the get go. he brought it back to the store and it took three weeks to get it fixed. i bought the ms361 had a prob with slow cuting (it just needed to be tuned) and had it fixed that day. never had a prob since then. my friend tho, he ended up with the ms 390. the husky got junked. and i have never seen a husky dealer like u see a stihl dealer must just be were i live, people around here dont have time to mess around with shit.
I feel the same way about Stihl. Your friend probably bought a consumer grade saw and not an XP pro saw and that was the problem. Stihl consumer grade saw are just as bad. It's better to buy a good clean used pro saw than a consumer saw.
Again I've owned more saws than you and your friends all put together and I won't buy a Stihl again.
I limbed tree's all day like that. He did a very good job. You should keep the saw on the tree and roll it back and forth. Hard to explan, that was for show. My wife bought a new 026 for limbing behind the skidder. I told her to be carefull, she started limbing dead spruce limb's like that. Going to fast, walked in to the saw, make it short she got cut . She was'nt a green horn.
Went through about 5 038's then upgraded to an 044. Added an MS 440. Broke a piston in the 044 after cutting about 3500 cords of maple firewood, changed piston and have about 1000 cords on new piston. In my opinion, the 044 is a better saw than the MS440, but both have been replaced by the MS 441.
Stihl 441, awesome saw, cools down quick hence the sometimes slower starting, but thats probably due to the 4 port setup, very economic saw, would highly reccomend!
it very easy to start just must liste carefuly when the choke button is on...3times pull then you hear the little bang then you pull button on half gas- just one pull and saw work perfectly...sory for my bad english
im sure that where you come from marrying your sister is leagal.. and having a 3 legged 6 toed baby is just fine with everyone wround you.. but where i come from morons are treated like morons you fuckin tool
Wasn't flush? Sure looked good to me, and I've got 3 66's, a 460, a 360, a 26, an MS200T, an MS192T and a 441, not that having chain saws makes your eyesight better.
I own an Echo. It's the reason I just bought a Stihl. Took me a FULL DAY to get through a 30" dia. log with an Echo (22" bar, brand new chain). I bought an MS441 with 28" bar. Went through a nearly identical log in about an hour. Stihl's got my vote (although I'm not sure why cutting twigs could be considered impressive).
OK, no I haven't done professional forest work, so I'll take your word for it and express apologies. Live a little, learn a little (or in my case, sometimes learn a little less....) Ziggy
An hour?? I have a 441 and that should take about 2 minutes, maybe less. We run a 20" bar with Oregon 72LGX, rakers taken down to .025, cutters hand-filed (7/32" file naturally). Unless you're running full-skip chain like Oregon 72JGX on that 28" bar, it might actually be slowing you down. But one hour?
OK. Please pay attention. Log. Not chunk or piece or one cut. The thing was 70+ feet long, probably closer to 80'. Bucked into 16 inch lengths. At 75 feet, that's about 56 pieces. So a little over a minute per cut, not including wiping off sweat. Not at all bad. That 441 rocks.
Hey, peace. No need to imply I missed something obvious. When you said "went through a nearly identical log in about an hour", I just took it at face value. Casey too, it seems. Anyway, glad you cleared it up, and it certainly does seem that you know your stuff. Sorry for the confusion.
Haha, one hour. What kind of wood is it? I have a Stihl 039 with a 20" bar, and a 25" red-oak log took me a little over 5 minutes. The most important thing is to have an evenly sharp chain so the kerf does not lean to one side. That is hard to recover from on larger logs since the only other option is to cut the same area twice. Good choice with the saw, though! Rest assured that you have one of the best out there ;)
Douglas fir if I remember correctly. So much much much softer than your oak. But see above please. That 1 hour was for the whole log, not one cut. Holy cow, an hour for a cut? I'd commit suicide first! And you are absolutely right about even sharpening and straight kerf. Good nice clean straight sharp chain == good clean cuts. Like I said the 441 Rocks! If only I could marry a chainsaw... :) (OK for anyone who might take offense, that was a joke.)
Echo's are not bad saws at all - I might go as far as "one of the best on the market". Excellent engines, start and run great. I'm a Stihl guy (066, 046, 441, 036, 026) but I think the Husky 346 beats the Stihl 026 Pro. Jonsereds are sweeeet, and Dolmar makes great saws. Just forget Poulan, McCollough and Crapsman.
The chain is modyfied... lot of work, but it works!

Nope. Apparently Stihl sales are dealers-only. Deutsche fair-trade?
And this sort of demo is simply crazy- great way to promote amputation. How about some ballistic nylon there.

SOP for starting Stihl saws:
Full choke when cold.
Once engine tries to start, even just a pop,
1/2 choke and it starts right up.
