  • Just bought the 1.5TB version of this for use as storage. My OS/boot drive is a new Crucial SSD 60GB. Should be a sweet combo!

  • my 1 tb is showing my partations with out space and just turned off my computer at night and in the morning do this any help

  • dont trust That stupid WD Green is very bad Harddisk That i never seen before

  • @Chakibdev so you're judging it even though you "never seen it before"? lol

  • What, so these things are not compatible with Windows 7?

  • @CharlieeKG I don't see why it wouldn't be.

  • @supertoaster441 Ah, thanks, turns out it is and won't work straight out of the box with XP. Looks like ill be getting this then!

  • necesito entender todo lo que dijistes pero no hablo inglés...

  • i got one of these works great as boot drive

  • these things are shitty i bought one it lasted me 4 months and the board on it shorted out and the old caviar black 640gb lasted me a year and then it started clickign and died

  • i did a little experiment between Seagate 250 gb HDD and WD 250gb HDD i put them on a 24/7 5 weeks stress by downloading any movies, music, pics and Hardcore 12gb+ games. after a while i checked that both the HDDs, they both have theyre on system seagate on 1 pc and wd on another pc both has same specs. when i tried to transfer 50gb items on an external hardrive using the wd system, it gave me like 3mb/s while the seagate 50-60mb/s. any ideas?

  • @brianesquinas How do i get wd align sw , i try to download it but its says i'm not eligible

  • @paulcampbell37 try formatting it

  • interesting!!

  • Can i use this for gaming, or is it so crappy that i cant...?

  • @SniperKillerize better for data, get a hitachi or wd black (not sure about blue) for games + system.

  • @TheCaNin3 But if i have the Os(/"system") on an SSD then?

  • @SniperKillerize and your games on a green? put the games on the ssd as well.

  • @SniperKillerize Funny as you say it, i used to have the OS and games on this drive and it worked allright. I then got an SSD and now use SSD for games and OS and the normal HDD for small programs and files, works even greater :)

  • @TheNorwayBoyz9594 Yeah thats probably the best, but im only going to buy a 60gb ssd so...

  • @SniperKillerize I would really recommend getting a SSD for your OS atleast, never had one before and the performance is just incredible compared to a normal HDD. 60 gigs is enough for the essential things though, i got a 120 Corsair SSD which havent failed on me yet :)

  • @TheNorwayBoyz9594 Do you think 16 or 32 gb would be enough as a boot drive? I can't afford much, but I have plenty of room for more later. Would it be a bad idea to have for example to 32 gb drives instead of one 64 gb drive? Also, that won't help with games, obviously, that aren't on the drive, right? If so, I'll probably put my games on that take the longest to load like BF3 and still be happy with the result. (useless info)

  • @KedViper 32 GB should be enough. Windows only requires 20 gb. If you want to have games load faster you have to install them on the SSD yes.

  • You guys seriously it works you guys probably just messed up badly...

  • green is retarded. it sucks, NEVER buy this.

  • @omaifakingad Green drives are meant for cheaper storage, not booting.

  • Just ordered a 2TB verion of this to replace my older 320gb drives they're slowing down my pc like crazy. This should help

  • i have the 2tb version and just bought it. I can see it in device manager but not in my computer i have windows 7 anyone got a fix?

  • @THESUPERSKULLY hey man you gotta go to: start-search-computer management-storage-disk management-there u should see ur hdd and there should be a black instead of blue bar on top of your 2tb hdd. right click it and press on new simple volume. i did this with my new 2tb hdd on windows 7 ultimate 64bit like 2 days ago :) i hope it helps, if im not too late

  • @destanakkus1 thanks for that it worked

  • i had two of these they failed

  • I will get one with 2.5 TB, the Caviar Green are good for data storage, not speed. I will use it as a backup hard drive, they are good for storage related to price and space available.

  • Finally got a cheap drive which will fill up all my FLAC files

  • shitty drive

  • hi i just bought that HDD.. and my pc isnt picking it up :(... can u help me?

  • that fucking motherfuckers at WESTERN DIGITAL ... thank you for loosing my DATA !!!

  • if hav window 3.1 OS.... do i need to move jumpers?

  • i still got the WD EAVS drive =[

  • I store my Windows 7 on this drive, but apparently that is not good. What is a good HDD to store an OS?

  • ive just ordered that HDD.. its awesome :) nice unboxing :) thank you :)

just ordered it for £49 :) very cheap i think :)

  • @locknload141 this disk is fucking joke, i lost 130gb of my photos ...

  • YEEAAAHH ! :D

  • If going to use a 40gb "IDE" WD Hard Drive to install Windows XP, and Use this 1TB WD SATA drive as Storage, do I still need to run the WD Align Software?

Note: The computer has One IDE line and two SATA ports so will be using One IDE Hard Disk and one IDE DVD-ROM on the IDE line and One SATA Hard Disk and One SATA DVD Writer connected to the two sata Ports.

  • some times my WD green hard disk is not pick up by the system and system give me answer to reboot no bootable device found and hard disk also produce sound some time click click its bran new wat is the actual problem power supply sata cable or wat???

  • Microsoft should fix Windows XP to support Advanced Format drives. I mean, it would surely be a simple KB fix that you install and reboot, integrate with media, etc.

  • Please, i want to know..

Which one is better.. (Green or Blue) 1.00 TB..?

  • This dude is sooooo remember me the shamwow guy !!! :D

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Is this drive SATA II, SATA 3 or SATA 6. plz help i know i'm a noob.

  • @TekkSpekk

SATA3 I guess 3 but I got my SATA6 cable hooked up unto this hard drive.

  • You're forgetting an OS or two (thousand...). Linux (in all its myriad forms) and BSD. Course, if you're using those, you're probably using a more advanced formatting tool than most computer users.

  • drives such as this are best for a non-boot storage drive.

  • @n00bcakey - Yes, they are quite good for storage, they've worked well in my Netgear Stora, however the Caviar Blue drives are awful!

  • @n00bcakey why?

  • it a nightmare to format but wd do now do a file for it on windows but mac os still must pull your hair out

its major stress for average user even if you know how to format

it is not true it does not work on mac os

  • ahh im having to RMA this after 2 days of use :(, dam WD failed on me..sigh

  • Don't ever buy it. I have performance issue on Core i5 750, 4GB DDR3 1333MHz, Asus P7H55 and GeForce GTS250 1GB. Windows 7 x64 it's sloooooow

  • This may sound weird but... where is your outdoor unboxing location? im gonna steal some pc components from you. lol

  • excellent drive (extremely silent but still pretty fast) if used as a single drive.

But ny any circumstances check the increase of load/unload cycles with a tool that reports the SMART parameters and use WDIDLE3 to set a decent idle timeout when load cycles rise extremely.

No good idea to use it in a Raid environment (especially with a hardware Raid controller) coz it lacks TLER support (with earlier drives TLER was just turned off and could be enabled with WDTLER tool..)

  • What are the advantages of 64MB Cache over 32MB Cache?

  • If i Do the Advanced Format for xp now. Do i have to do tis again when i Upgrade Later to VISTA / windows 7? plz let me know

  • @fahadmuneeb 7200

  • good info, cheers.

  • @HHBones It will not work on Windows 98... But will work on Windows 95!

  • omg it came with chinese candy in a lil bag!

  • I'll by this drive tomorrow, cause I already have a 250GB and 500GB drives from Western Digital and I never had any problems with them :)

  • I don't understand why people say WinXP is antiquated just because it's 8 years old. It's not as if Microsoft has made any significant advancements with Windows since then. Win7 does not support 4KB sectors directly. That's why there's no setting on the drive to turn off 512B emulation. Microsoft just changed the partitioning behavior of Win7 to keep everything aligned. They could just as easily modify XP to do the same thing. Real support for 4KB would require a lot of work.

  • then what is WD10EADS then?

  • it wasnt really unbloxing was it?!

more like pulling it out of the bag :P

  • I've got this Hard Drive.

Runs on Windows Vista 32 Bit OS well no problems at all. Draws little power, decent transfer rates and is reliable. Couldn't be happier.

  • i think i got f*cked... dual HD of this and i did a raid 0 and then boom. effin slow

  • This drive apparently will not work in WHS as a system drive since it's based on Windows Server 2003. You can use it as a data drive if you set the jumper.

  • Im gonna buy my own and unpack it xD Thumbs up!

  • what........but i already ate the silica balls

  • i normally just the eat the candy packets that come with it

  • ok i listened to his explanation of why the advanced format is good and I got nothing out of it

this is an advanced format, what that means is it uses 4 kb sectors, what that means is it achieves greater data densities.

    what the fuck?

  • what do jumpers actually do, and how do you set them?

  • @Geekman257 You call yourself Geekman and ask that question?!

    That's just amazingly stupid.

  • @Nopiw i know most things, just obviously not that.. its not like you use them alot.. i think :\

  • @Geekman257 back in the day (couple of years ago) you had to use them for all kinds of things

now 99.9% of them are replaced with bios settings

  • NCIX is awesome because if you buy this drive you get free shipping for the whole order!

  • what about ubuntu 10.04?

  • i am actuly going to by this one

but some one is just keep telling me about seagate drive pleas clear me

  • @idadyal never had a WD fail can't say that about seagate! also go to newegg and look at there open box items yea not many WD's there compared to seagates billion and one open box-sp I don't know may be it's the 64mb-c over seagates 32mb-c at the same pricing nope may be I just like a quiter hard drive or is it that my WD carviar drives has always ran cool, but nope it could be any reason no idea

  • @haylspa

i bought core i5 asus p7p55d xfx hd 4870 1gb and wd 1tb cavier green with 4gb corsair dominater 1600mhz

  • who is better Samsung or WD?

  • i just bought this today lol

  • What about Windows '98? Will it work on that?

  • I just got a new 500gb wd blue edition for data storage and it makes a really loud and awful noise when it is being accessed for the first time either after a fresh boot or coming back from energy saving mode... what could it be?

  • Where i can buy this hard drive in pakistan?

  • Is it ok to us these drives in a raid 0 config?

  • I just installed the WD Black Caviar 1TB internal drive on my G5 Mac. Works great and is faster than the original.... installation took 15 minutes.. first time for me... I'm not really sure what this "advanced format" is all about....

  • who mach it :@ :@

  • yo mom has three mounting holes lol

  • nice hard drive

  • Nothing wrong with giving away unopened items, Linus. Imo, as long as you didn't mess alot with it, nothing wrong. Like OCing (if it's a CPU/GPU) or running it under a heavy work load for a long time lol.

  • How do you pick winners for your giveaways?

I don't understand how we are suposed to enter ;|

  • good nice new technology

  • linus rocks

  • I can't imagine they are gonna sell too many of these, far too much effort for installing a hard drive! Thanks for the video!

  • captions: we are going to be on boxing western digital one terrified hard drive lol

  • Get the black version, its only a few bucks more

  • Too much work to setup, just be done with it and get yourself a Samsung F3.

  • 1TB, thats kinda kickass for nowadays, many product goes to 2TB and more, but the more space you get the harder backup you get too..

  • isn't the silicagel supposed to be out of the package to actually work or odes it breathe to the plastic that it is in hmm. what happens when u eat them ?!?!?!

  • Youll get ill..

  • silicate gel is meant to absorb moisture thus preventing oxidisation ect

  • They explode when eaten. They are intended as an anti-theft device, as many thieves are stupid and will not be able to resist eating the delicious-looking gel.

  • @imisspokemon sounds fair

  • @imisspokemon noooo its japanese candy silly! xD

  • man you guy are wack .every link that i click leeds me to you.your awesome. i learned so much from you and + your in vancouver.jeeejj

  • The close captioning is hilarious. 1:08 "Well I'm very fond of these dead bodies."

  • Linus unboxing doesn't give much info about performance in real world applications. It would be great if u can run some sort of a test and compare the drive to a regular WD drive and/or Seagate LP

  • just wanna know it work in 5400rpm or 7200rpm or in between?

    Thx for all user

  • Comment removed

  • You are funny introduction. Advformat is effective on 2T. your next video, I want you make the setup process of advformat

  • Tell me more about the silica, baby !

  • Outside already, lol.

    Good 'ol Vancouver.

The summer destination of Canada, 10 months a year.

    (Edmonton's the winter destination 10 months a year ;) )

  • It performs ok, but too bad it's 5400 rpm

  • @Lukus2009 It's only for storage so who gives a shit.

  • Damn, that's RAD mann! I've never seen a 3.5" HDD unboxed before! that should be some kind of a breakthrough! xD

  • @Bayngan no. He was actually unbagging the "Do not eat packet".

  • lol dont eat it, that arent some bubbles xD

  • komplett ;)

  • Skulle inte tro det.

  • okej, kul kille..

  • My first HD was a WD.

It was the noisiest thing I have ever experienced in all my PC use.

I have a seagate drive now, it is nice and quiet. I love that part.

  • yeey

  • i got this :)

  • yey the first 4 kb sector drive :P im waiting for ssd with more cap.

  • I'm waiting for decent SSDs with a cheaper price. :@

  • @ItsMatuka

I keep hoping the x25-m will drop under $200 but damn it all...it refuses still :)

  • @Twisted86 I'm waiting until they drop to £50 per 500Gb. :D

  • Windows XP FTW! It SUCKS that it don't support DX11 and that they don't make much programs for the 64bit version anymore. And should I get that or the WD Caviar Black 1TB?

  • @KapteinFruit green is for the power consumption and black is for performance

  • if u can buy this hard drive i think u have enough money to upgrade ur os and shouldnt be needing the extra xp features to get it working

  • what it mean is die faster

  • I have that Drive in my pc to bad it wont fit in my mac mini

    \

  • Daiwa!

  • nice shirt!

  • WTF XP!

    how about moving forward

  • That is one sexy drive....I wanna mate with it.......repeatedly

  • @brainlicker1 ok?

  • @Airwolf2030 U heard me O_o

  • I have this hard drive and it's good :)

  • @leimo25 - The WD Green Drives are much better than their other offerings. But still not as good as the competition.

  • Nice info, I learned somethings new :)

Hey will you ever review a i7 porcessor?

Perferebly the 975 Extreme edition :P

  • @PivotAX he already did

  • XD i failz :P

  • i use 2 of them in my media nas. fast and quite enough. if u want a quite and green hd: buy it.

  • So, by the time anyone cares to use the technology, wouldn't SSD's be pretty main stream? I guess it could be used in those =\

  • nice vid !

    i like the statue

    grtzz

  • yes! love outdoor unboxing!

  • exactly what i have in my comp

  • Jumpers on a SATA drive??

  • NOT YEY

that means Winter Olympics is gana suck even more

    NO YEY

  • Partition aligning?

Wow, shades of how I set up my SSD. I hope the new Advanced Format make this drive perform better than its previous incarnation.

  • If your HDs are that hot, it might be a good idea to ensure there is adequate ventilation. My room temperature is 24c and my HD never goes above 26c. Just a thought..

  • agreed im sticking with hard drives ssd temps can reach 70c witch aint that good...

  • Thanks for this video I am buying one of these nice to see this.

  • nice, i got the 2TB version.

a bit slow, but good storage drive.

  • Yes

  • SSD's are very expensive and new.

When they become dirt cheap like satas I will.

  • ssd's are satas lolz

  • Well something like this.

  • To the people asking about the weather: Last week it was very warm (15~degrees) in the greater Vancouver area including Richmond where this is filmed. This week it has started to rain again, but it is still unseasonably warm.

  • whats the point in silica gel?
