Wow, although most of the comments are complimentary, is anyone else sensing that the Nick Drake enthusiasts here are a little on edge? I've never seen people so protective over an artists.
between VW commercials and garden state drake's music has almost become the "go to" sound for indie films and wannabe aficionados. nobody will ever understand how or why nick made the music he did, all anyone can hope to do is use it to expand their own outlook on music....cheers and happy picking.....the fruit tree grows in all listeners
Watch the movie "A Skin Too Few". It is a documentary about Nick. There is a section where his sister plays a recording of Nick's mother. His chord structures and runs are very similar to his mothers. It was completely obvious upon first listen. Beyond that, the documentary is really great to watch. Anyone who enjoy's Nick will really enjoy it...
@jblues1982 i played drakes version at my little boys funeral, also played was jose gonzalez..cant believe he helped cover it..a very special happening for me.
i've played guitar for twelve years... nick drake is one of those geniuses that can't be copied or covered.....i'm happy to see that you've done the right thing....taken his song and made it your own. you can't re-create what he did...only incorporate respectfully....and i'm glad someone has done that.
@jblues1982 I have seen that many artists will cover ND,but it is hard to really capture the sound he created. There are some good covers and some that are not so good, but it is good to see people really coming to appreciate his great music and pass it on to people that would have otherwise never heard of him. This is the gateway to actually hearing ND himself and that is a gift in itself.Once you hear ND there is no going back...

I thought I'd hate it, but it's nice. Timing's a bit off.. but that's just me used to Nick singing it.

Agreed. But I can hardly think of anyone better to re-interpret this song than the Books.
