  • tis is donaldkmitchell out of Grenada and ilove it!!!

  • who is that unbelievably bad lead player? there's no way it's clarence white.

  • @daveskates11 it could have been Byrds roadie Carlos Bernal

  • @daveskates11 It's so bad, but oh sooo good!

  • The Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers changed country forever... and Nashville still won't admit it!

  • Under your spell again was written by Buck Owens I think. Kind of ties to gather the culture gap of that era. Gram does it well.

  • Thanks man it sounds great

Poor ol Gram, he never got to blossom like he could of

  • This must have been a really to cool time to hear the Byrds. It was, as Hillman often says, just before Gram slipped into his troubles. Too bad this incarnation of the band hadn't lasted for another album.

  • Yes I know his bio...I was more referring to the direction country music took. I can barely stand to listen today's country.

  • @tropicofcherry I hear you it's a shame. but at least we can come on places like this site and play what we want to hear. thank you to the hankgwe for uploading and sharing this priceless classic. :)

  • @islandguy911 Agreed! Too bad not enough people have heard of and appreciate Gram's iconic talent-our responsiblity to turn them on to it!

  • @tropicofcherry I do as often as I can. just sending it out to friends as much as I can. I think so many people are just finding about gram now with you tube. I loved him ever since I was a kid. my dad had his own band so I got to hear and learn a lot about music. no I can't sing or play but I sure do listen to it a lot. it's one of my biggest loves next to my two sons.

  • @islandguy911 Roger that. Love music myself-mostly r'n'r but anything old sounds good to me. Too young to have been a Gram fan but trying to makeup for the slip! :0

  • They played Middle Earth about a month before with Doug Dillard. Two of the back up bands at this gig were The Deviants and Deep Purple. The Byrds sat on stools and we sat all on the floor. You can hear the audience weren't really sold on it.

  • The audience probably wasn't ready for the countrified version of the Byrds. Who was playing the electric guitar with this lineup? Was it just Roger McGuinn?

  • It was McGuinn because Parsons only played electric organ and acoustic guitar. They came on about 2 am after three other bands. It didn't help. The Middle Earth gig got rave reviews. But like you say alot of people weren't into country then. I think people were pretty shocked by what they were doing. It seemed pretty downbeat after the country pop on Younger than Yesterday.

  • The Roundhouse....what a cool gig in the 60's!

  • Great channel thanks for all of the great music

  • Haunting...this is the country music I remember as a kid. WTF happened?

  • @tropicofcherry Gram parson's died as well as a few other great young stars that would of kept it simple and real.

  • @islandguy911 Sorry should have posted my response here.

  • @tropicofcherry

    I totally agree!

"Country" is simply a form of "soft rock" music these days.

It is ironic that the Byrds, a rock band, did one of the best counry albums ever IMO

The songs on "Sweetheart..." are true country songs, done in true country style.

    Still a very brilliant album!

  • Is this off a boot leg?

  • It's from the ''Under Your Spell Again'' bootleg (Colosseum Records)

  • Fantastic. Never heard this Byrds performance before. The choir is exactly like on Sweetheart Of The Rodeo.
