I hate AFP. If I hadn't heard of her a few years ago, I may have never known what it is to be (I think) a "true fan". And that's true, I have my favorite singers, people I admire, but I don't necessarily buy all their CDs, for example, and it has even bothered an ex-girlfriend ^^. But Amanda... she something else. A great singer is not only a voice, it must have everything, and she has everything, her soul scream, and it's music. No other female singer of her generation measure up to her.
Amanda has this way of making me feel ok, despite whatever is happening in my life. Her music keeps me holding onto life when nothing else can. This song makes me smile, cry and feel hope all at once.
shes amazing. she inspires me so very much. whenever i think my life is fucked up and going nowhere, i listen to her music and think about how awesome she is and feel like getting out of bed in the morning.
wow. the video quality was pretty good! I love this song i've been listening to it for about a week straight now. I love it when the choir comes in, and I thought it was really cute that she introduced her father...
I think the songs about the constant clash between humanity and nature summed up with the analogy of a car(mankind) killing a deer(nature). And the whole song is an apologetic plea to nature for forgiveness.
But iunno...
I don't get the suffering most in the morning part though.
i cant quite sign that. there are a few parts that just dont fit. the 1 u metioned. secondly she is at no time singing of a deer..^^ ("It's only natural, dear"). of course there is this burying part, but anyhow, this could be a simple broken heart song to.. '-.-
But I figure the suffering most in the morning is supposed to symbolize how we can get so worked up and concerned about the environment, then we just go to sleep and the next day we don't really care anymore, but we're still aching deep down "wake up all bleary eyed and sore, forgetting everything we saw... I'll meet you in an hour... at the car". So we're basically back in the car that harms nature. =/ Even after all that "we will save your" message to nature.
@derebin wow...that was a pretty cool interpretation of the song. That never crossed my mind. Excellent job and thanks for giving me something else to think about when listening to this amazing song.
this song is about pets getting hit on the road...and shes feeling guilty about having to drive. I wonder how many of Amanda Palmer's fans support marijuana legalization....
Amanda Palmer is truly one of those precious gems that anyone who crosses her, finds themselves a better person for it. She has this amazing ability to make you put everything bad, all this shit, going on around you, to the side, for just a couple of hours. So many times I have found myself on the brink of quitting, only to put her or one of the Dresden Dolls CDs in and, letting their music take me away from it. She is amazing and I am blessed for having been alive during her life.
last night I saw her with the Danger Ensemble (who are like a choreography/theatrical group that acted out different parts of the songs while Amanda played.). It was stunning.
I really, really love the version of this song featuring the Danger Ensemble.
But, oh man, the choir and the orchestra just add something so beautiful and powerful.
In a perfect universe, there would be a magical AFP tour with the DE AND the Boston Pops.

4:13 gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to this song.
I could just watch this vid over and over and over again.
And her father looks sooooo proud! :D
Well I can definitely say that AFP changed my life, I don't know ANY musician who could possibly be compared to her.

@Martinlooter
search " who killed amanda palmer alternate tracks"
should be first page that pops up, then click on "have to drive".
Amanda's own personal comments on the song. It's "deer" and she even says it's the most essential part to understanding the song.
