I agree somewhat. Their older stuff is what I'm really a fan of, but the mere association with that is enough to make me probably end up buying the new cd. I wouldn't say I'm "fucking stoked" personally, but I'm just happy they're still playing music. Derek is way better at drums than Glenn, and also better for the band. The old stuff just has punk beats and fills, and it's all sloppy compared to what Derek plays.

Im sure most people are disappointed because its starting to take a new Mainstream vibe. The line-up change is almost insignificant, Dans been around for a Long while now, and changing a drummer doesn't change the whole band :P
changing the drummer completely changes the band. Glenn Porter was the best,in my opinion. he was responsible for the way Goddammit sounded. it's all in the drummer's style. the way he accents notes, the way he uses fills, etc. Derek used to be in the suicide machines. As a result, you have the near-mechanical sounding alkaline trio.
exactly, glen was an amazing drummer hes the 1 who came up with the heart skull logo for christ sakes. he was waay better than derek even though derek is a good drummer too but him joining the band made there sound change a little bit. that and peoples opinions and visions on things change too i mean playing the same stuff over and over again gets boring people like to explore new things.
i just want to say i respect the talents of both drummers, but glenn did have a better impact on trio's original sound that i fell in love with, and he just fit better with the sound they had. the suicide machines are an awesome ska-core band, but bringing that style and rhythm to alkaline trio wasn't as good a fit as what they had with glenn.

As far as songs that Dan has written, this one is pretty awesome. This album is definitely shaping up to be better than Crimson, but I don't think there's any way it can compete with stuff like Goddamnit or From Here to Infirmary.
Oh well, even if this album doesn't turn out really good, I'll still have their older stuff in my collection, and that always keeps me happy.
For me, FHTI is one of my favorite albums. It was sort of in the middle ground where they were evolving into what they are now, and it has at least two of my favorite Trio songs, but like you said, it's Trio, it's still fucking amazing even if it's not their best. I like it way better than Crimson or Good Mourning, but I'd say Goddamnit and Self Titled are easily my favorite Trio albums. Of course, Maybe I'll Catch Fire is fucking great too. Ugh, it's just so hard to say. It's all good.
i love the way this album is sounding. i am really excited for this album. at first i wasn't too impressed with crimson, but going back it really is a great album for different reasons. i like how they're simplifying their style for this album. i think i read somewhere that they don't want any instruments on the record that they don't actually play, like strings and synthesizers and stuff. should make for a classic trio album. =]

what's great about alkaline trio is that they have something for everyone. just because someone likes their "new stuff" better thinks that their "old stuff" is the only way to go doesn't mean that person is not an alkaline trio fan.
I personally love everything these guys have to date, this song included.

oh come on.. crimson was one of the best albums to date. Goddammit, maybe I'll catch fire and the self titled album were all the same..and honestly I think I will go crazy if I hear "radio" at another live show...the new stuff is awesome...and yeah like maxwell says there god forbid a band evolves a bit...everything this band has put out in recent years kicks ass!!!

God forbid a band broadens it's horizons a little bit. Seriously, this song is not shit, balls, terrible, bad, etc. It's a good song. You people who are bashing on this song are just upset because Trio matured more than you did. I love every song I've ever heard from Alkaline Trio, (which is 99%) and I'm think I still will after this album.

I agree somewhat. Their older stuff is what I'm really a fan of, but the mere association with that is enough to make me probably end up buying the new cd. I wouldn't say I'm "fucking stoked" personally, but I'm just happy they're still playing music. Of course I would prefer they still sounded like Goddamnit or FHTI or Good Mourning, but the people talking as though it's their decision where the band's style goes need to stfu.

I really like this! It's so different from Crimson but at the same time it's so good. I love the way Trio are always changing their sound and progressing. I can't wait till their new album comes out!! It's in like 2 weeks!!

Derek is way better at drums than Glenn, and also better for the band. The old stuff just has punk beats and fills, and it's all sloppy compared to what Derek plays.

I think this is a great new song by the alkaline trio!!!, ive loved all the of there previous albums such as goddamit and good mourning but i love this new sound and the lyrics. I cant wait for the new album to come out, its gonna be good!

Only Matt and Derek are "Satanists" I think matt said it was just for shock value though. their religion has very little to do with music put on the radio anyways, ill admit that they arent as good as they used to be, But things change, Dont hate on someone for getting popular. Just stay in the back of the trio fans, where we can brood and remember the good days before teeny preps came in. Ofcourse they are a completely different band to what they were at the beginning (Hello, line up change?)
Bands become more comfortable in their style and trying new things, I'm sure they've got better at playing too.
I have to say the new songs are better live, maybe it's the atmosphere? I saw them in London last weekend.
I've never been disappointed by AT live, could that be my rose tinted spectacles though?

Im sure most people are disappointed because its starting to take a new Mainstream vibe. The line-up change is almost insignificant, Dans been around for a Long while now, and changing a drummer doesn't change the whole band :P

changing the drummer completely changes the band. Glenn Porter was the best,in my opinion. he was responsible for the way Goddammit sounded. it's all in the drummer's style. the way he accents notes, the way he uses fills, etc. Derek used to be in the suicide machines. As a result, you have the near-mechanical sounding alkaline trio.

exactly, glen was an amazing drummer hes the 1 who came up with the heart skull logo for christ sakes. he was waay better than derek even though derek is a good drummer too but him joining the band made there sound change a little bit. that and peoples opinions and visions on things change too i mean playing the same stuff over and over again gets boring people like to explore new things.

i just want to say i respect the talents of both drummers, but glenn did have a better impact on trio's original sound that i fell in love with, and he just fit better with the sound they had. the suicide machines are an awesome ska-core band, but bringing that style and rhythm to alkaline trio wasn't as good a fit as what they had with glenn.

As far as songs that Dan has written, this one is pretty awesome. This album is definitely shaping up to be better than Crimson, but I don't think there's any way it can compete with stuff like Goddamnit or From Here to Infirmary.
Oh well, even if this album doesn't turn out really good, I'll still have their older stuff in my collection, and that always keeps me happy.

For me, FHTI is one of my favorite albums. It was sort of in the middle ground where they were evolving into what they are now, and it has at least two of my favorite Trio songs, but like you said, it's Trio, it's still fucking amazing even if it's not their best. I like it way better than Crimson or Good Mourning, but I'd say Goddamnit and Self Titled are easily my favorite Trio albums. Of course, Maybe I'll Catch Fire is fucking great too. Ugh, it's just so hard to say. It's all good.

i love the way this album is sounding. i am really excited for this album. at first i wasn't too impressed with crimson, but going back it really is a great album for different reasons. i like how they're simplifying their style for this album. i think i read somewhere that they don't want any instruments on the record that they don't actually play, like strings and synthesizers and stuff. should make for a classic trio album. =]

The whole song is fantastic, eccept 2 things... 1. The synthesiser in the song sucks. 2. Matt's whao's ion the ref's are too short. But, the rest of the song soand really good and taste like more...
If I here Fire Down Below, Help Me and then this song, I think the new albul will be so, so good..
