LiveStarProductions, according to a psychologist friend of mine, she learned in college that the one-parent theme is sort of a way of relieving a little kid's worst fear, which is (besides the dark, I guess :P), is losing a parent. The goal is to make the child see that everything works out even when one parent is gone. Since, stereotypically, the parent the child is most attached to is the mother, I guess it's a way to show the child that dads can be just as competent. :)
