One of.. The Biggest songs Ever..that will Always be with me. Brings back some Serious Memories...when I heard of his death,..I couldn't believe it. Rest in Peace, Paul..
In July of '88 I met a special woman, and this song made me think of her, 'cause I DID go crazy when I looked in her eyes. You know what? In October of '89 I made her my bride & we're still together. And yes, I still go crazy when I look in her eyes. I love you, Mary!
Love is stronger than hate, even though most misinterpret the vulnerable feeling that comes along with being in love. I've "loved" this song since the first time i heard it during the 70's as a boy, and now at 42 it's still heart felt. Real music will "stand the test of time".
Like our parents......They enjoyed the music that was playing 'at that time'........ I like their music and mine..... up to '92!! Then, it all turns to shit!!! I can go from Sinatra to U2 in english.... from Perez Prado to Sonora Santanera in spanish!!!!! Ask them , if they know any of the ones was mentiomed..........?? Their reply will be............................. Duhh, we don't!!!!!
And we'll hold that above their heads, to make sure they know better....!!!
I don't know wot all the hullabaloo is about. All I know is this reminds me of my high school girlfriend when I was 18. Donna was her name. It was 1978. It was summer. We were in love. Will always make me think of her.
I feel sorry for women today. Their is no music like this now to celebrate the love a man has for a woman. It's all gang bang garbage,ho and slut this and that, all crap. No respect anymore, it's sad....
@1QuikTransAm And what makes it worse is they hear the music of today and apply it to how they feel like they "have" to be. So many barriers, walls, shields. And all you get today is "you're coming on too strong" I wonder if anyone has any emotions anymore, or the will for true passion, >not cookie cut tv style love< Seems like today's music puts labels on people.
@1QuikTransAm You're right to a certain extent. But if you're referring to the music of the 90's, fall back. the thousands is what made music bad nowadays.
@1QuikTransAm It is sad. And then that reflects on the men, all women are now accustomed to the culture where being slutty and getting with lots of guys is good. So the good men have to suffer
Romance does not seem to have place in todays world. I quoted a poem to a woman and she thought I was crazy. A young man I work with was struggling with how to reignite the spark in his girlfriends heart. I suggest flowers he said she did not like flowers. I then suggested watching some old Carey Grant movies and that he may be able to pick up some ideas. No response. This is a wonderful song. I am glad I grew up listening to it.
This song beat out Bing Crosby's White Christmas as the longest chart single in history (only to get out in 7 years to Michael Jackson's "Thriller"). But I bet the songwriters pushed hard to get that perfect sound for those songs, whereas Davis as always just wrote this from the heart.
I love singing this song in karaoke. The keys and haunting melody are a great sound for anyone.
I do...still go crazy...the few moments I've seen you pass by. My heart belongs to you and knowone else...it always will. It's been nine years since we went our separate ways. I can't get over you...I never will. You were my life...my hopes...my dreams...my future...my soulmate. You were the one I was to spend the rest of my life with. I miss you terribly.
Our youth is still in there. It just needs a little prompting to bring it back. There is no better way to travel back in time than through a song. What this song brings me back to is my summer with Cindy. Great times, great memories.
I am aching for real music, real people, lyrics, inspiration...the dreams I had when I was a young guy listening to this music. Now all we have is Reality TV, amateur talent shows, postmodern nonsenical music productions for the digital age with autotuned robotic talent...and a little less of those dreams we all thought we could reach by this time in our lives.
@bennettdrew Good comment. Yes, pop culture is going to h*** in the 21st century. Wish I had a time machine....I'd buy a one way ticket straight back to the 70's/80's. **sigh**. And you know what's kind of sad? MANY ppl feel this way about today's world....even the young generations! I feel very melancholy about this sometimes. :-(
After seeing 11 Dislikes, I am reminded that 'mandatory sterilization' may not be a bad thing. Paul Davis is a genius of lyrical ability, the source of so many couples having "out song" thanks to his talent. We must find and eliminate these 11. Do it in the name of love.
@jazzguitar2010 wow, I so agree with you and Im a 21 year old musician! I know todays world, but studied yesterday's, and Ive found music in the 60's and 70's people poured their heart and soul into music instead of greed and bulls**t. Im going to bring the soul back! You'll hear it someday :)

@TheMatrixPipe You know, just because someone doesn't share your tastes in music, doesn't mean they have no heart. It just means that their heart is reached in a different way.

In 1969 my 1st. g/f and only love broke up with me, a week before I went to vietnam. when I came back she had moved, whereabouts unknown. she just reconnected w/me says she still loves me, but is married. It was slow getting over her, and old lovers can be friends! but I do go crazy looking into her EYES and I was blind for searching for her after I got back...To you Karen LOVE Rick
wow i have to post this!! @aharon1949 you made a small statement that means so much to me anyways! it's crazy how you look around you when your young and almost suddenly your in this time frame and morals and decency and love and charity and patience almost do not exist!! this world needs yes it badly needs jesus christ, now i am not going to preach to anyone i am not a preacher, i am a deciple of 1 true god!! i know this because i am a walking living breathing miracle of god's grace and love us
You know when I look in your eyes I go crazy...such a sad song but so beautiful. I'm walking down memory lane tonight I guess. I was just a little girl when this song was popular...lost of drinking adults and I think they were ALL CRAZY! Lol! Funny how a song can take u back, close ur eyes and ur right there that moment...wow.
I love this song because everytime I hear it , it reminds me just how much I love my considering the December we'll be married for 40 years .
We take rides up Rt. 7 during the fall every year all the way into Mass. and during those trips in the 70's this song would play on the radio , love the piano .
I've have always loved this song. To Steph- if you see this, you KNOW how I still feel. When I look in your eyes, I go crazy- but I couldn't do it. :-(
Always loved this song, first for the beautiful, and eerie music and for the lyrics and the wonderful voice of the late Paul Davis. But also since I had broken up with my college girlfriend that I loved immensely. She said to me "just because we arent lovers, we can still be good friends" And that for me was impossible. 30 plus years later a song from that era, or a voice will trigger the old memories...especially this song. Thanks for posting
I don't know what the heart is supposed to do with what it felt, what it wants to feel. The soul learned to bend one way for the better part of a life, and then was told there's no more point in bending. Best to just break and break and break. But by morning your broken limbs have healed and your heart tries to lean where it ought not try to go. So you sit in the perfect pain of a song like this and try to forget to make sense. The song makes the hurt worse, then it makes it beautiful.
@lionshareprops Mexican people speak Spanish; this is not Spanish, but Portuguese. Paul Davis sang in English, but, the melodies of his songs are beautiful music to many ears. Try closing your eyes and just enjoying the meaningful thoughts and emotions, as so many do in whatever language they naturally speak.
@lionshareprops .. fisrst of all, it's not Mexicans ruining everything, it's people like YOU. you're the one listening to this guys song that he uploaded and if he wants to add mexican subtitles you can't stop him. if you're dissatisfied with this song i strongly recommend that you listen to this song somewhere else.
@gabrielfix1 Yes....Timeless I trust many have felt how true to life these lyrics have been. Perhaps a sort of sweet haunting feeling when we catch sight of those we felt this way about.
I made the most awful mistake of having a crush on a girl from junior (middle) school through high school instead of "shoppin' around" with other girls. What a deep regret that is to me! She would not see the light of day with me..nor a great sexy night either.
I've always loved this song, most especially since I've been there. This song speaks well, and, from what I can tell, I guess it's a great song because lots of others have felt this way, too. Beautiful song that is well-crafted. Paul Davis will be missed.
@aharon1949 You're so right about those days. Thing is, I remember both my parents talking about how much more sentimental and real things were in the '40's than the '70's. I am more and more pulling for a school of rock n roll with the greats of old for professors, before they are gone! Somehow, the kids these days are all silicon or plastic as far as music goes...a few bright spots remain though. Rock was born the same day I was. I worry it may die the same day I die...
I Lived and felt the "Good Times", when this music was playing on the top of the charts...Now, I don't feel the joy in life like I did then. The way the world is today, I'm pretty much ready for it to end once and for all because the days I long for are gone and never comming back and now....well now people can have the world today and shove it up thier ass.
Nowdays everyone is looking for the "hook up" ( sound like an old grandpa whistling through is teeth as I speak don't I? lol) But it's true, this song was about regret, pain, love that was lost. Hell everyone wants to just fire a load then move on. I know, sounds crass, but that's the way I think.
as a B.U.D., I could sing this when Paul Davis originated it but didn't really understand it until I lived the experience of lovin' someone who didn't share my depth of feelin'. haven't seen her since, but wouldn't know what I'd do if I did?
This song reminds me of my ex of 1 year and a half. He seems to be ok now, but I know he still loves me and cares for me, and I heard proof of this, I am with someone now, and trying to be happy. I am 20 years old not a little teenager with stupid teen drama, no.
We have been divorced almost 2 years now . And i see you every other weekend to get our son . You seem to have been able to move on . Looks like I can't do the same . I was 11 when this came out . Funny It rings true for me now ! Love you girl !
i met my x girlfriend in 2004,and just broke up,but when i met her and she came to my apartement for the first time,this song came on the 70's channel...and after a couple of cocktains,she melted and thought it was in my cd list....thanks paul davis...you made it easy for me that night i'm 41 so i know this song well,and so did she obviously :}
Yeah anyone remember trying to "lock" that stupid AM dial in to hear this clearly :-) Yes, I'm that old too and you know something? It's just fine :-)
This was one of a few songs that me and one of my ex-girlfriends used to dig together back in the mid-latter 70's in highschool (Class of '78). Everytime I hear this song I think of her and what her life is like now. Mine has been pretty good and here's hoping hers has been good as well. This one's for you Carla. Loved those tig ol' bitties! ;-)
My teen years were in the early 70's to 79 and Paul Davis is just one of many that made music for those looked at life with love. There is no one else that can make music like this now days.
Oh God... what an amazing tune. Why don't we have GENIUS artists like this today? All these Rap Crap morons thinking that putting their feces to music is art. The 70s were musical magic.
@doglvr211 ...thanks.young people today may be afraid of displaying their real emotions, especially when it comes to love and the pain that often goes with it.Sure,no one likes to be shot down. But too many people are more concerned with being looked at as as "cool."I guess it's tough putting your heart out on a limb. When I listen to the oldies though,I remember what it was really like and I nod my head and manage smile.
As a teen in the 70's I feel that I was privileged to hear the music from that era on a daily basis. Paul Davis will always remain a giant in the music industry his song writing skills and his incredible voice will endure forever.
I met the women of my dreams a few years ago but she went back to her abusive husband Im married now i still see her around every now and then And i do Go Crazy Perfect song
I listen to this every now and then. When I see my first love I feel just like the song says. I love my wife, but think about my first love from time to time.
My daughter was so surpise that Paul passed away on her birthday & her last name is Paul. I think about my children & I wish all the best to me everyday.
Life and love held secrets, imagination, years ago. Music kept those special secrets, things only you and your lover knew. That's what today's music doesn't do. Everything is shared, nothing kept inside - just for that one person. Everything is exposed. The real heart is ripped out, missing in today's music.
thank God I was born in 74....there is absolutely NO romance today like there was then. Music that was sung with heart.

The song makes the hurt worse, then it makes it beautiful.

why are there mexican subtitles to this song? Do "they" have to RUIN everything?
stop bastardizing our songs, culture, etc.
lionshareprops 4 months ago
@lionshareprops Mexican people speak Spanish; this is not Spanish, but Portuguese. Paul Davis sang in English, but, the melodies of his songs are beautiful music to many ears. Try closing your eyes and just enjoying the meaningful thoughts and emotions, as so many do in whatever language they naturally speak.
chocorua47 4 months ago
@lionshareprops .. fisrst of all, it's not Mexicans ruining everything, it's people like YOU. you're the one listening to this guys song that he uploaded and if he wants to add mexican subtitles you can't stop him. if you're dissatisfied with this song i strongly recommend that you listen to this song somewhere else.
^ enough said. now go "troll" somewhere else.

Loved those tig ol' bitties! ;-)

Oh God... what an amazing tune. Why don't we have GENIUS artists like this today? All these Rap Crap morons thinking that putting their feces to music is art. The 70s were musical magic.
chisaoboy 6 months ago 2
@aharon1949 Couldnt agree more.I was a teen when this music came out,and i miss it.70s songs refected true emotions, and songs today dont.
doglvr211 6 months ago
@doglvr211 ...thanks.young people today may be afraid of displaying their real emotions, especially when it comes to love and the pain that often goes with it.Sure,no one likes to be shot down. But too many people are more concerned with being looked at as as "cool."I guess it's tough putting your heart out on a limb. When I listen to the oldies though,I remember what it was really like and I nod my head and manage smile.

The most popular commenter is right. There also is no need to only portray "fantasy" women. Throw a few real chicks in there, would you?

As a teen in the 70's I feel that I was privileged to hear the music from that era on a daily basis. Paul Davis will always remain a giant in the music industry his song writing skills and his incredible voice will endure forever.
We will always miss you Paul!

Life and love held secrets, imagination, years ago. Music kept those special secrets, things only you and your lover knew. That's what today's music doesn't do. Everything is shared, nothing kept inside - just for that one person. Everything is exposed. The real heart is ripped out, missing in today's music.
