i have to say that playing the first AC is the most challenging of all of them because you have to learn all your skills and you're almost always fighting many enemies at once to you need lots of patience to make it through but i did the game and got all the achievements so ive not played it in a while haha same for AC 2 as well

Remember, chain when possible, counter when required. Do so and you can dispose of a large number of guards without ever taking a single hit.

If you're fighting against a brute (heavy weapon wielder), dodging his first attack and chaining a few blows will also end his life (this is not necessary if you are wielding a heavy weapon yourself).

Your hidden blade, though more difficult to counter with, will immediately kill the opponent should you successfully do so.

In combat: after performing a kill pointing the direction skip to one of the target and clicking the attack button will trigger a chain kill, so you kill a target, to this, kill the next, do this again and so on, it is a very fast way to take out loads of enemies at once. Otherwise nice improvement!!!
