Apparently the Joker is being completely reshaped and rewritten. I predict it will fail; no offense to Ledger; this is just bad creative direction. What they are doing would be tantamount to recreating Lex Luthor as a thin, handsome man with a bushy blonde hairdo.
I've read that Nolan gave Ledger The Killing Joke to read to prepare for the role - so I wouldn't say he's being TOTALLY reshaped.
It is however, an adaptation, an alternate version of Batman, and shouldn't be tied to any specific rules. Just watching a page by page translation from whatever comic book would be boring and completely uncreative on the part of the writers and directors
I don't think it would be boring; they should show some loyalty to the comic book character as well. Personally, one of my gripes with the Nicholson Joker was that I felt he was being rewritten too much (as a mafiosi, named "Jack Napier", killer of Wayne's parents, etc.); now the Dark Knight version seems to be taking off in an even more extreme direction. And in both movies they are fixated on the carved facial smile, which is practically irrelevant to the character.
Well, my advice is wait until you see it first before judging it.
I'm still all for changes in adaptations - as a fan of this stuff I understand it can be crappy when this or that thing that makes you really love a character isn't quite the same in an adaptation - but really, they shouldn't have to be the same as long as the right vibe is there.
Either way - I'm not judging this until I see it.

Apparently the Joker is being completely reshaped and rewritten. I predict it will fail; no offense to Ledger; this is just bad creative direction. What they are doing would be tantamount to recreating Lex Luthor as a thin, handsome man with a bushy blonde hairdo.

I've read that Nolan gave Ledger The Killing Joke to read to prepare for the role - so I wouldn't say he's being TOTALLY reshaped.
It is however, an adaptation, an alternate version of Batman, and shouldn't be tied to any specific rules. Just watching a page by page translation from whatever comic book would be boring and completely uncreative on the part of the writers and directors

I don't think it would be boring; they should show some loyalty to the comic book character as well. Personally, one of my gripes with the Nicholson Joker was that I felt he was being rewritten too much (as a mafiosi, named "Jack Napier", killer of Wayne's parents, etc.); now the Dark Knight version seems to be taking off in an even more extreme direction. And in both movies they are fixated on the carved facial smile, which is practically irrelevant to the character.

Well, my advice is wait until you see it first before judging it.
I'm still all for changes in adaptations - as a fan of this stuff I understand it can be crappy when this or that thing that makes you really love a character isn't quite the same in an adaptation - but really, they shouldn't have to be the same as long as the right vibe is there.
Either way - I'm not judging this until I see it.

i agree with moistmoist. ledger is a method actor and then just the fact that christopher nolan is once again the director, i believe dark night will be just as dark as begins if not darker. jack nicholson is a great actor but he wasn't really a good joker. i think ledger's joker is going to come off just the way the joker should-a sociopath who enjoys murder.

I'm skeptical until I see the movie and how well the Joker is played out. Of course I don't want a remake of the one from the 70's or Nicholson's Joker, but this one looks a lot darker than any other Joker. I mean, he isn't even smiling! He has two nasty scars from the side of his mouth to his cheeks and with red lipstick on, this surely makes him look more like a murdering maniac than a prankster.

Bale and the Begins movie nailed Batman to a tee. But up until then, Keaton was my fave. Now he's 2nd. As for this Joker, I don't like the look, but we'll see.
Somebody should make "Return of the Dark Knight" since they are doing all these Frank Miller graphic novels. Why not make the best one he ever did.

Of course. They're going for a "chelsea smile" with the corners of the mouth being all cut up and scarred so when he grins or smiles it will literally look like an ear to ear smile. It's going to be absolutely chilling when he smiles. But you have to admit, Heath Ledger has some pretty big shoes to fill if he hopes to be as good or better than Jack Nicholson's Joker.

this is actually a hundred percent real. it was a link that was sort of something like a riddle and if you somehow solve the riddle the ad for harvey dent fades out to show the joker this has been recently been taken and its say no link or something like that but if you highlight the page it says HA HA over and over and in between the HA HA's is letters and when putting the letters together it says "See you in December" maybe saying the trailer will hit December.
