Iranians (persians) are the direct sources of Mithraism, Zoroasterianism, Mazdakism, Babism, and Bahai faith.

And indirect source of Christianity, because Christianity is partly copied from mithraism. And partly from ancient greek religions.

People in Iran need religion. It is in their blood to believe in something. They just can't be athiest. I'm Iranian myself, I was born and raised there, and I'm an athiest myself.

In all the ancient empires, including achaemenid, parthian, and sassanid, they were all highly religious people. I mean very religious. Xerxes was also religious. Zoroasterian was the religion.

And until a good replacement comes, Islam will rule.

This is from the movie ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING, released in 2006. It is based loosely on the Biblical book of Esther. "Xerxes" is a transliteration of the Greek form of the Persian name Khshayarshan. I believe that Ahasuerus comes from the Hebrew form of the name. Xerxes succeeded his father Darius & ruled the vast Persian empire 486-465 BC. Artaxerxes was his son, succeeding him as king when he was murdered, & is mentioned in the Biblical books of Ezra & Nehemiah.
