And yes, God created everything, including darkness and evil (hebrew "ra", adversity, calamity ect). Satan certainly isn't a creator nor can he manipulate God. The only reason you could have a problem with that is if you are judging God, which seems to be the case.

we need to have that same spirit in this world of sorrow he trusted in god no matter what happened because he knew that god had a plan and eventhough he didn't know why all those things were happening to him he still had great faith in god not many people could indure what he did and still be faithful to god i have so much to live up to

Job didn't sacrifice anything - it was all ripped from him. He was an upright, righteous man of God, and god rewarded that by taking everything from him, and making him suffer, all because of a bet with Satan.

Have you seen the movie "Trading Places"? That's what the story of Job makes me think of.

I agree! What a mean God! What should he have to prove to Satan??!! If God was happy with Job as he claimed, why not simply banish Satan(a second time? o.O)from heaven yet again and continue to be pleased with Job? On top of allowing Satan to torture Job, God later makes Job feel like dirt! Really nice!

My point :If goodness is defined by God's actions, then to say that God is good is merely to say that he does whatever he feels like doing, and if he were to command that babies be smashed to death, pregnant women be cut open, that children be killed violently for the sins of their parents or that picking up sticks on a certain day was a crime deserving of death by torture - as, indeed, he does in the Bible - then those things would be good. Is there anyone who will agree that this is the case?

2-A truly morally good deity would not have acceded to the bet in the first place, but would have told Satan, "I don't need to prove anything to you. Job is a good man who doesn't deserve to suffer. I know he would remain faithful to me anyway, so I'm going to continue to bless him and I don't care what you think about it."

1-The story of Job is revealing of the character of the Biblical deity. An omniscient being would have known full well in advance that Job's faith would not falter, so what was the point of inflicting all this suffering on him - did God feel he had something to prove? What motivated him to agree to the bet with Satan? Pride? Did he value being proven right over the suffering of an innocent human being and the deaths of others?
