That's not true, Irish rebel songs give us Americans that despise Empire-building and that know the day is fast approaching when our rabid government will turn their murdering and false imprisoning ways on the people of our country... and we will have to fight a enemy far greater than the ourselves. It gives me hope that all is not lost, and the small group of free-thinking patriots left here can prevail against the Juggernaut.

I am English but had an Irish Grandfather and I love Irish music, irrespective of the politics in the songs, the difficulties and the struggles that make up the songs content. The magic of Irish music is what matters !
Fairplay, there's no denying some wrongly interpret the songs as calls to hate the modern British but they're historical songs and are as permissable as any other litterary forum in Ireland.
all these type songs do build up hate of british. its not britain holding the north. its the north irish. and if they represent historical songs where are these people singing orange songs. surely they are historical too. for gods sake work for peace not this kind of shit.maybe if you did that the north might want to join you
The North might want to join us? Take a day off soft lad and learn some history. Might I suggest you read up on the Government of Ireland act 1920! That'll tell you exactly how interested the North are in joining us.
we werent then but things have improved since you started getting wise to your catholic church.i could;nt care less if we joined tomorrow ewith south ireland. but i wont be forced into it by ira gunmen or mouthy young people like you lot. why is it rebel songs always talk about attacking while orange songs are nearly all about defending themselves. and people like you call me scottish my name is from an ancient irish clan in the north. maybe you could check out where your names came from
Seriously man what are you smoking? I said nothing about Orange men or your origins so what are you going on about? It's a sorry state of affairs if you need to contrive arguments. And are you trying to claim unionists never picked up a gun? Wake up and smell what you're dishing out. By the way my name is from Glagow.
I just looked at some UVF songs and all they talked about were going out and attacking the IRA destroying them and reclaming Ireland ext. I am not sure if youv taken the time to listen to our songs/their but if you notice this song and others are about comemeorating our fallen and our excapes. Theirs are mostly about killing us. So your wrong that their all about defending. Please learn the facts before posting false information. Thank you and have a good day.
@LordAstaris sorry ive been away so couldnt answer before. i dont listen to uvf songs as they are just shit like the ira type songs. its about time both sides gave it away and woke up to the fact that we will be united.. by the muslims lol.
I was merely trying to advise our Scottish friend that he should read up on the HISTORY of partition...at the end of the day what they want is their right...stop looking for trouble you fuckin idiot.
I'm surprised they werent arrested for this. Writing a song about a helicopter springing some IRA prisoners out of a jail. Are the band total anarchists who have no respect for the law? How can they support illegal activity like this? And lastly, why dont the Wolfe Tones write a song about the victims of IRA's atrocities? I doubt the band felt any feeling towards the 2 little children killed in the English town of Warrington in 1993, but would happily describe their killers as heroes in a song.
its not about country references, it s about humanity. I would be as appaled if 2 little children were killed, regardless of where they were from. People being more bothered about 2 kids dying because they are of certain ethnicity is actually racist - aswell as displaying no humanity. If these people care about others they should write songs about some of the terrible things the IRA have done - the IRA have killed children, teenagers, Asian people (Docklands), Australians (mainland Europe), etc.
2. Irish Catholics love living under a British Government. More Irish Catholics live in England than live in N Ireland. Each by choice. Cant be that bad then can it? Happily taking Social Security, free healthcare, free education, living under the protection of the British Courts, and - most bizarelly of all - living under the proection of the British Army, who they would expect to go into battle on their behalf to protect their freedoms and liberties! How bizarre (and contradictory) is that?!!
the songs about fighting against the british government for their illegal occupation, trying to save their land from brtish rule, it is unfortunate children died at the hands of the ira but what about the millions who died including thousands of children in ireland during the famine?
caused by the britsh what about all the kids who have died at the hands of the british army in ireland, iraq etc?
seanbradley, what year did the Six Counties start being run from Britain? I also dont know what an 'illegal occupation' is. I'm not saying its right for Britain to be there, all I'd say is if Britain is illegally occupying N.Ireland it must be illegally occupying Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, islands west of Scotland, etc. Britain is dominated by Scotland more than England now: people also always confuse Britain with England. Scotland now dominates Britain more than England does.
u are the typical english prick who tries to justify britians murderous empire . wat a wanker why do you people come onto these videos in the first place !!!!!
Not sure I tried to justify things Britain did historically. I think you're seeing things. I'm commenting on the anarchist, anti- rule of law, vibe in this song. Few people in Ireland supported the IRA and few liked the Wolfe Tones. The group are banned from Irish radio stations, TV stations, and Irish airlines wont have their music. Most Irish people have the same view as the English: they were never in favor of the IRA or the Wolfe Tones! Lastly: why did the band never care about IRA victims?
What you don't seem to understand is that mainstream Ireland (politicians and media etc) feel they have to pander to the world. Wolfe Tones may be banned from the radio but they are enjoyed in pubs up and down Ireland so don't come across naive if you can help it. What surprises me is that people condemn the British in Iraq but their occupation of Ireland is perfectly acceptable.
Mate i take your point but these boys sing about Irish Rebels and the history that goes with it, about the conflict (Troubles) and about other issues (some happy, some sad) The Loyalists/Protestants have their OWN bands to sing about the IRA did this and i got this filfthy fenian and shot him dead etc etc, If you want to listen to there side of the story, go ahead - i might warn you, its far more graphic and hateful. And the IRA has support in the WORKING-CLASS areas throughout Ireland mate.
The IRA never had/has (dissidents IRA groups) the support of 100% of the population on the island of Ireland. They had support in many many (if not all) working-class areas throughout the North, particularily South Armagh, West Belfast, areas of North Belfast, Derry and Nationalist people in cities/villages all over Ireland, North and South of the "border". The IRA were seen as the defenders at the start of the conflict by many WORKING-CLASS people here - FACT not FICTION mate.
fucking bullshitthe nth irish catholics werent supporting the ira at all and that is why the ira disbanded until a few stupid prods did the wrong thing. why do all your writers just speak of hate all the time. grow up you dickheads there are more important things to think about these days. they reckon muslims will take over europe before 1920. i know what they will do with the ira not pussyfoot around like the british government
Naw Actually They were never arrested for This, Instead on the year it was released it became the Fasting Selling Record In Ireland, Great Achievment For An Irish Ballad Group,
what sort of prick are you with the shit of a comment obviously you knoww fuck all bout the norhern troubles .show up at a gig and try and bump them off as you say ya fuckin retard
haha listen to you ,is that all can you come up with foul mouthed contribution, lets put it this way , i probably know a lot more than you retard, as for this pathetic group, what sort of person makes money glamourising terrorists ,who killed many innocents, many catholics, many kids ,and plunged northern ireland into 30 odd years of terror , the wolfe tones are scum mate , support for republicansm, and a united ireland is one thing, glorifiing murdering scum is another
were do you get of condeming 'terrorists who plunged northern ireland into 30 odd years of terror', when England went terrorising the world, eg: british empire. where all of those countries not innocent? you have to understand that you have to be hated as a country a little bit for that.
tell us oof this english,(british actually) terrorism then, why oh why ,apart from you and USA , have our ex empire countries stayed in the british commonwealth , yes uprisings by extremists were put down, , what would kenya be like if the mau mau were allowed to take control , or the chinese backed communists in malaya allowed to take control, or greek extremists in cyprus, not every country had uprisings, many did not ,and most have benefitted by the british ,
all were going to get their countries back, ireland would of a lot sooner if it hadnt been for constant uprisings , all that did was keep the british in your country a lot longer than we would of ,,,,,, were the ugandans better under the british, or idi amin,, zimbabwe under mugabi , is burma better off under its military junta , all you iris concentrate on is what the british did over there, all a reaction to your acts of terrorism, IRA and all paramilitary groups were and are terrorists
wat are you on about? northern ireland? did we get that back? ENGLISH terrorism for example the most of the countries you are talking about didn't have good enough weapons to fight back. . .but still did with there spears and bows and arrows! your country wanted all of these countries to pledge allegiance to your queen. . . Do you even plegde alligiance to your queen? and on the IRA they mite be terrorists now but they were OUR army that nearly got the british out of ireland.
you're talking outta your arse mate! i don't know any irish families that want to live in britain we have a history to be proud of in ireland and you brits have a history to be ashamed of! you complain about the ira and use words like terrorist organisation, when really all yourselves and america are known world wide for, is terrorism!!
i feel the way about the spanish going to the Aztec empire! Did britain not come about from england going to scotland, wales and ireland and taking them over? the Union Jack. . look at it!
britain is a geographical area , not a country , and was called brittania by the romans , a name a lot older than england or wales , probably scotland to , our history with wales and scotland centuries old, and if the shoe was on the other foot ,they would of took over us , scotland for centuries raided over the border, and won many a battle against us, northumberland has more castles than any county ,for good reason ,the scots, theve invaded us to several times , its only natural that they
its only natural that after centuries of provocation that we sould invade scotland and stop the threat of invasion of england from the north, after all they allied themselves with the french ,enough said , after the failed bonnie prince charlie episode ,the highlanders were subdued, many by lowland scots loyal to the crown, anyway since james1 , the english king or queen has been the scottish king and queen, james 1 being son of mary queen of scots .the scots and welsh have both done well being
They didn't plunge Northern Ireland into 30 years of war one because Northern Ireland isn't a country. Its 6 counties of Ireland. Secondly, Republicans/Catholics tried for years to get rights and a fair share. They were put down and abused by the Brits and the RUC, finally some people took up arms against the brutal oppression. There were catholic men in their 50s living in the 06 who had never been given a job in there lives, Catholics were second class.
course they did, they fanned the flames and made it 20 times as bad as it might of been, northern ireland, in the worlds eyes is officially part of the UK , secondly ,it wasnt the brits who kept you down, it was the unionist government of northern ireland, the brits wernt even there, any clampdown by the brits afterwards was a direct result of what the terrorists were doing, men in their 50s, well they could of gone south or come to the uk as thousands did
as for jobs in NI , well the situation caused by the paramilitaries on both sides saw that foreign and british, firms did not invest there, after mainly the ira blew up half of the province, i dont agree with catholics being forced out of their jobs and vice versa, blame that on the paramilitaries ,
Catholics couldn't get jobs long before the troubles started. long before paramilitaries. The provos about because peaceful means for equal rights failed. you really don't have a clue what you are talking about.
he knows a damm lot more than you do about the north if i only had to move a few yards as most republicans could do to get a job in south ireland i would. so did they want jobs? and thousands of irish moved to england and got work there.
38 IRA men escaped from 'the maze' in the 80's. It was the most secure prison in Europe, a prison inside a prison inside a military base. They still got 38 men out lol Ive got the documentary on my channel if anyone is interested.
i agree mate derek definatly was the voice of the tones and i had the pleasure of workin with them here, home and in america and he was always quiet but wot a gent
How did you hear Tommy voice in this when he wasnt even singing lol!! because i can tell with saying the lads very recently in the Ulster Hall in Belfast Tommy's voice is top class still to this Day,, amazes me the notes he can hit no problems!! defintly a fine ballad singer!!

course they did, they fanned the flames and made it 20 times as bad as it might of been, northern ireland, in the worlds eyes is officially part of the UK , secondly ,it wasnt the brits who kept you down, it was the unionist government of northern ireland, the brits wernt even there, any clampdown by the brits afterwards was a direct result of what the terrorists were doing, men in their 50s, well they could of gone south or come to the uk as thousands did

as for jobs in NI , well the situation caused by the paramilitaries on both sides saw that foreign and british, firms did not invest there, after mainly the ira blew up half of the province, i dont agree with catholics being forced out of their jobs and vice versa, blame that on the paramilitaries ,
TheMightOfTheEnglish 2 years ago
Catholics couldn't get jobs long before the troubles started. long before paramilitaries. The provos about because peaceful means for equal rights failed. you really don't have a clue what you are talking about.
mbr1888 2 years ago
he knows a damm lot more than you do about the north if i only had to move a few yards as most republicans could do to get a job in south ireland i would. so did they want jobs? and thousands of irish moved to england and got work there.

38 IRA men escaped from 'the maze' in the 80's. It was the most secure prison in Europe, a prison inside a prison inside a military base. They still got 38 men out lol Ive got the documentary on my channel if anyone is interested.
