These are THE finest I have seen. The one gently netted for viewing obviously knew it was in no danger. Very sedate and serene, not a care or worry. Now that would be how I would want to raise them! I don't like it when they shy away from you! I had an Oscar that followed my every move and always interacted with me!

I heard kio can live 40 years, but I don't know for sure if thats true or not. A friend of mine has had his kio for about 12 years or so now in a small pond in his yard

Is true, but it all depends of the environment in which the Koi has to live. Big pond with stable water quality of a small pond with lots of other Koi and poor water quality? Which kind of food? And like humans also Koi can die young no matter what the circumstances for living are.
