Look into the origins of east coast swing. It was actually a test tube dance with racist intent. You see, Lindy Hop was originally an african-american dance with an earthy "pulse" that went down into the ground. But the ballroom instructors of the day considered it too "dirty" and took all the soul out of the dance, replacing the pulse(down) with a bounce(up). That's what makes the hips look creepy to lindyhoppers.

OK, jive is competition swing dancing, somewhat like East Coast Swing. Jive is an English term. This is a great performance by two excellent dancers. They obviously put a lot of practice into this, and the choreography is just wonderful!! Thank you Bryan and Carmen!!

they are so skilled that sometimes it is too much for my eyes to catch their movements and yes i admire them for this,and sometimes before competitions i watch their movements carefully and learn a lot from them but i have to say that evan if they are soo good they never were my favourite couple i think they are beyond perfection and sometimes they are so concentrated at the steps that they forget to live..but thats just my opinion and yes...they really are legend

The huge surges in popularity of Ceroc (Modern Jive), West Coast Swing and Salsa are pretty much nailing down the coffin of Ballroom Jive. I can't say I'm too unhappy about that, as it was always my least favourite dance. RIP!

personaly I don't have anything against modern styles or something, but ballroom is something for people who dont want to dance just for fun so actually ballroom jive is my most favorite dance and i hope it will always be popular

Er, excuse me but I happen to have for years danced ballroom and latin to a fairly high standard. Dances grow and fade in popularity (see if you can find anyone doing the Military Two-Step these days)and ballroom jiving is definitely fading. At my dance club, when given the choice of jiving style, about 80% of dancers are preferring to do Ceroc, which provides scope for a wider range of moves and avoids all those silly hops and flicks. Time and events march on.

One of reason people don't want to do the ballroom jive is that people are afraid of doing that. The dance is a physically demanding compare to other dances. I've seen so many people want to jive, but they are just scared of the dance.

I don't disagree with what you say. I have done ballroom jive for years but it is now failing when compared with Ceroc and other modifications on an effort/effect calculation. I know a lot of people who are moving from ballroom jive to modern jive but hardly anyone who is moving in the opposite direction. My own dance club, although traditionally inclined, now offers modern jive lessons but can't attract any interest in ballroom jive. The world moves on.

It's one of the ballroom dances. If you say so, who does a ballroom samba, rumba, paso, or chacha in your dance club? Ballroom requires much more displine and technique compare to social dances. I don't say that social dances inferior, but it is true that those attract more people than ballroom because of easiness to approach. If you see someone who does a ballroom samba, just let me know.

I think you've misunderstood me. At my jive club sambas, rhumbas and cha chas are performed every evening and are very popular. The paso isn't quite so common but is still around. What I was saying is that when jive numbers are played, 80% of those present prefer to do Ceroc than ballroom jive.

Actually jive is not that hard to lead. I can dance jive with a stranger from other country just fine. The most difficult to lead in my book is Samba. Even passo is simpler.

Well, to me it's definetly Rumba -> Paso -> Cha Cha Cha -> Samba -> Jive.

Rumba is the slowest dance, so the girl has the most time to react. Paso Doble is really only about creating shapes for the girl. Cha Cha Cha is a flat dance, but at the same time it's fast, so not the easiest since the girl has less time to react. Samba is difficult because of the bounce action. Jive is the fastest and if you do any of the harder swing moves instead of just the basic figures it is going to be a bitch.
