The real problem was that the pilots plan changed at the last minute due to the airshow's display axis being on a different runway from what they expected, and they didn't check it out before they gave it a try.

This crash was in the initial stages of "FLY BY WIRE". This was at an airshow in Mulhouse and Airbus were demonstrating. "Alpha protection"... When the pilot has the throttles at IDLE and with the nose up attitude applied the plane detects that it will stall.. Alpha protection was meant to kick in and TOGA thrust should have automatically applied by the aircraft...
