Bazan plays "Let Down" like that for a reason. The whole point of the song (and OK Computer in general) is how disconnected and disenfranchised people have become. Listen to the song's lyrics for crying out loud. "The emptiest of feelings...disappointed people clinging on to bottles...and when it comes it's so so disappointing." Mr. Bazan knows he can't improve upon Radiohead, so instead he tries to stay true to the song's meaning by stripping it down, both instrumentally and emotionally.

I care more about the way words and melody sound in a song, not about the overall meaning. I'm not one of those people who try and cut apart songs to figure out the "true meaning" behind them, therefore I could care less. To me, this is a pathetic rendition of Radiohead's version of the song.
