They stopped playing live because they were worn out. They toured non stop and didn't get that much rest like they should have. Also those last days of touring were a bit scary for them like their encounter in Manilla and then the so called comment that John made that infuriated many americans that lead to death threats and so called pyschics predicting their demise.
if you went to see paul mccartney today, with the equipment of this generation, he sounds amazing, i saw him at citi field, and he was great. AND HES 60 what years old!? If the beatles played live with equipment of today instead of what they had to perform with here, they would sound as good as their studio recordings. They couldnt hear themselves playing live. Thats why they stopped touring after revolver and did sgt pepers. the point of that was a concert for the mind, on tour by itself
Part of their suckiness here was due to not being able to hear themselves. Part of it was due to all live songs sounding inferior, or at least imperfect. Part of it was due to them being strongly out-of-practice playing live at this point, and part of it was because they disdained touring at this point so they basically gave up on trying.
Didn't realize the beatles had any "suckiness". The only problem the beatles ran into is that the technology for amps and speakers are where its at today, so they were basically using my practice amp for playing for crowds of 50,000+
That's true. They also had no sound monitors; Ringo was only able to keep up at this show because he watched what the others were doing. I'm not saying I could have done better.
Still doesn't change the fact that they suck here though. They performed better live at Shea Stadium with a bigger crowd.
The Beatles are probably my favorite band, but they were fucking humans, not infallible gods, and they weren't perfect. Watch Magical Mystery Tour to find that out.
George Harrison says in the excellent Beatles Anthology video series, that special 100 watt amps were made for their August 1965 Shea Stadium concert,& that before this they only had 30 watts! Plus as mentioned they had no feedback monitors so they couldn't hear themselves sing &play but they amazingly still played in sync & in tune anyway! I think it's amazing they sounded as good as they did live given the very primitive limited sound systems of the time.On the Let It Be roof top concert they
sounded great, by that time the sound systems were better(though stil pretty limited compared to today's) & there were no more screaming crowds. When I was a teenager I met 3 people who saw The Beatles live 1 in 64&2 in 66 & she & he & she all said they could hear them & they were great.Former Kiss guitarist & producer of the heavy metal Beatles tribute album,Butchering The Beatles saw them in 66 & he said he heard part of Baby's In Black & Paperback Writer & that they sounded amazing.
Also a guy named Steve from Canada said on Artist Facts that he saw The Beatles in 66 & The Rolling Stones in 1996,(when of course the sound systems were a zillion times better!) & he said don't get me wrong The Stones were great, but he said The Beatles were the greatest band ever!
Although George said that the 100w amps were used in april 65 at their Wembley NME concert ...... the other thing he said he didn't remember visiting Shea a second time in 1966! 50w versions were used on the australian tour in 64.
It is obvious that they weren't enjoying the touring anymore. And I'm sure that John and George were thinking, "Why did we put all of these high backing vocal parts in this song?! Now we have to try and reproduce it onstage. What a drag!"
I agree, but they couldn't hear what they were playing. The days before stage monitors. There is another Japan show on youtube, where all of their mics don't stay still and every 10 seconds they have to keep moving them back towards their face. This was near the end of their touring career. Ringo looks like shit and it's quite obvious that they weren't enjoying it anymore.
1. Ringo always looked like he was spaced out. That's what he DID when playing in concert. Look at rehearsal footage of them before doing the Ed Sullivan Show and he looks the same.
2. Live concerts ALWAYS suck compared to the album version of practically everything.
Really awesome how tight and Professional the Beatles were - the harmonies are intact ,...They always gave the crowd the best they had to offer !!

Wrong.... I would die for a 60's Vox amp. They are nowadays $3000 and a reissue would be $1900
