Indian cinema had different eras. New generations ask for new things. Rafi's career lasted for 4 decades, the 40's, 50's 60's and 70's. I regard this as being like his spring, summer, autumn and winter. He remained dominant in the first 3 decades. He has sung for more generation of actors than any other male singer. He has even sung for KK. Who would say that he was not popular in the last decade? He used that time constructively. He performed round the world in order to get closer to his fans.
Excellently sung by Rafi. His supersonic murkis are fantastic. This kind of singing is only available in India so that's one of the reasons Indians are blessed. Well Kishore and Rafi were in competetion and Kishore had nearly given Rafi a nervous breakdown. At one point of time most albums had a majority of the numbers sung by Kishore and only 1 or 2 by Rafi. But We cannot compare these 2 great singers amongst them selves. They had distinct styles.

An excellent Sahir Ludhianvi 'ghazal', so beautifully sung by Rafi Saheb !It is such a pity that Jaidev, who gave music for two Dev Anand movies, 'Hum Dono' and 'Kinare Kinare', could not get more work with top producers when both had quality music which was also a hit. His other two top films, 'Mujhe Jeene Do' and 'Reshma aur Shera', were for Sunil Dutt, and again he gave excellent account of himself. Still he was relegated to "B" grade films.

Javed Akhtar is merely catering to the market needs, least bothered about literary or aesthetic value of his poetry. His father Jaan Nisar Akhtar

hwo u define greatest singer? that itself is stupid..listen dude..playback singing is a genre in itself & Rafi is great..its an extension of acting so to speak...rd wasnt mean to him as you say..the thing a certain style goes away and people grab freshness..Kishore is the Beatles of Hindi film music..he changed it all..made everyone happy and gave the maximum number of hits a singer has in Indian playback singing. A music directors dream. Kishor is the ultimate playback singer.

I am a hindu bengali and I think rafi is the greatest singer in the world. many of these "pundits" like to be fashionable and criticize rafi. I'd like to see them sit in front of naushad or madan mohan and explain their "philorafies" . Also whats the issue with kk being "fresh"? I think all singers were equally fresh at some point of time. oh what these kk fans wont say to win an argument, even if it means pointing out serious doubts to their mental stability!

part 3..has kailash kher sung ghazals,he is not even a proper playback singer,can jagjit sing qawwalis, can he sing high range songs, i dont think so..so thats what i meant that rafi sang sang all kind of songs wich was a big thing in taht era..for example wen rafi sang folk songs lyke nain lad jaiye it looked as if a dhobi from UP is singin,or wen he sang man tarpat hari dharshan it looked as if a hindu pandit singing or wen he sang parda hai parda it looked as if a muslim qawwali guy is singin

part 2 cont..he sung classical number,semi classical numbers,comedy songs,sad songs happy songs peppy numbers u name it,, eventually a singer has to come to a downfall he cant stay on top his whole life and thats wat he happened to rafi in 70s,although he sang some of the best gems in 70s,rd favored kishore and didnt give much chance to rafi wich i felt was unfair, but all songs rd gave to rafi were superhits, and the most vital thing above all was that rafi was humble downtoearth man.

well here we are years after Rafisaabs passed away and we still have billions of fans missing him, some of these fans were actually born after his death, so actually sholay, ur wrong others voices may have been forgotten but not Rafisaabs, to this day these songs of his are still more popular than any new crap bolly is churning out! As for kishore,he laughed at the ppl comaparing him to Rafisaab, u know y, because he knew Rafisaab was a legend n he wasnt even close nor did he ever claim to be!

Indian cinema had different eras. New generations ask for new things. Rafi's career lasted for 4 decades, the 40's, 50's 60's and 70's. I regard this as being like his spring, summer, autumn and winter. He remained dominant in the first 3 decades. He has sung for more generation of actors than any other male singer. He has even sung for KK. Who would say that he was not popular in the last decade? He used that time constructively. He performed round the world in order to get closer to his fans.

Excellently sung by Rafi. His supersonic murkis are fantastic. This kind of singing is only available in India so that's one of the reasons Indians are blessed. Well Kishore and Rafi were in competetion and Kishore had nearly given Rafi a nervous breakdown. At one point of time most albums had a majority of the numbers sung by Kishore and only 1 or 2 by Rafi. But We cannot compare these 2 great singers amongst them selves. They had distinct styles.

As for Rafisaab 'having a nervous breakdown' , thts jus toooooo funnny, he was the most humble and sincere, cool headed person ever, heck he een gave films given to him to other singers to help their careers, so tht was a really ridiculous remark to make!!
Do remember he was awarded singer of the millenium, now y wud a singer as popular as tht (even after his death) hav anything to worry abt during his lifetime, wen he was literally idolised by billions of fans!!

We should not fall into this trap of comparing one with the other. They all have left us with memorable songs. They were all great in one way or another. I dont think that Rafi would have felt insulted if KK was compared to him. They were very humble to each other. KK himself would not have liked to be compared to R. Nothing on earth lasts for ever. An excellent Sahir Ludhianvi 'ghazal', so beautifully sung by Rafi Saheb !It is such a pity that Jaidev, who gave music for two Dev Anand movies, 'Hum Dono' and 'Kinare Kinare', could not get more work with top producers when both had quality music which was also a hit. His other two top films, 'Mujhe Jeene Do' and 'Reshma aur Shera', were for Sunil Dutt, and again he gave excellent account of himself. Still he was relegated to "B" grade films.
