He's starting with a G (6th string 3rd fret), up to a B (5th string 2nd fret) to a D (5th string 5th fret up and down(listen to the pattern). After each run he goes up a half step (one fret) and repeats the process.
BTW excellent simple little exercise, thanks for sharing
