I slowed it down a bit on an HD version of this trailer. It "looked" like she was stealing morphine. And, in that day and age, morphine was a powerful painkiller... or a means to kill yourself. :(
This was a piece of art, made me laugh, cry and be amazed. Classic visioning of what story-telling should look like.
