  • Was that a Comet crusing by? Sure looked like one....

  • @ThePostal67

    I believe it's a Hawker Nimrod.

  • I would use that to chop cabbage. You could make about a thousand pounds of coleslaw in two seconds. Of course, you'd need carrots too.

  • That sound the Griffon puts out is like music!

  • I can see no point in this too... nice sound, but why not plant it in something and have it moved??

  • @vgiannadakis I am sure they will take a donation of an airframe, just don't ship it collect!

  • *eargasm.

  • Incredible...most impressive~!

  • @cdmikelis you are not listening properly, turn your volume up to 11!!!!!!!! are you a girl?

  • I can hardly see a poin here. Just "having" the engine for no purpose? Is it like having a pet?

  • @cdmikelis

No different than an antique engine display at a county fair. It's a hobby, and the engines are dwindling in numbers. Also, it's the only way to get an up close look at the intricate hardware since public access is restricted at airshows for safety. Many of the ground engines are made from parts that can't be inspected and certified for flight anymore, so the purpose is to preserve them on the ground.

  • @cdmikelis The point being, the purpose is like listening to Dean Martin, he certainly does not SERVE a purpose now, except for a potting plant, but the sound cannot be repeated.... Somethings you just cannot put back the way it should be. Just like an 85 year old man getting a 20 something girl, take it out and turn it over a few times and then put it back so nobody at touch it.

  • I want one of these on a trailer so when a boy racer ends up next to me with a 1.2 and a pathetically big exhaust I can show him what a real engine sounds like..

  • Hi 240p... we meet again

  • contra props ... I'm in love!

  • White man invented almost everything. I salute

  • Is this how they make wind?

  • you know you have great power/rpm when the blades seem to be as one.

    awesome video!

  • a good aircon :D

  • @Blaze0357 The Tu-95 "Bear" and Tu-114 "Moss" used Klimov turboprop engines. They remain the most powerful engine of their type ever installed in a service aircraft.Their props gave off an ear-splitting shriek that we could hear long before the plane itself came into view.I'm sure former crew members are quite deaf as the aircraft had little or no soundproofing in the cockpit and surviellance operators stations.

  • ok but will it fly???

  • Let's cut some grass, bitches!

  • Tear that shit up grampa!

  • V1....V2, flaps, retrack landing gear.. :D

  • To Cool!...Is that out of a TU-114 or some other Tupolev? I ask cause of the twin Rotors. Thank you VERY much for the FIXXX. -Blaze-

  • @Blaze0357 Think it's off a Shackleton, don't remember the model number they used though.

  • my ears just cummed.

  • HOLD ON GRAMPS!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you.I think I just wet myself

  • Imagine having this hobby and living in a development.

  • Great engines, shame about the ram shackle trailers they sit on!!

  • @Lawrence5987

The trailers are sturdy enough. They spent 8 years restoring that Merlin and I doubt they would mount it on something that would fall apart.

  • @FiveCentsPlease I'm not questioning the structural integrity of the trailers, just the aesthetics- they look like generator trailers you can hire from A-plant or HSS!!! If you've got something as special as a Rolls Royce Merlin or Griffon engine (which spent eight years in restoration!), then you would want to mount it on a trailer that would visually compliment the engine and not on one with awful plastic wheel trims!!! Am I the only one out there who has an eye for detail?

  • @Lawrence5987 why even have it on a trailer....put it in a replica or a hot rod for that matter lol. damn trailer queens... ;)

  • @Lawrence5987 yes but who cares about a trailor when u have a Griffon on the back

  • @Lawrence5987 why does some one always have to hate on somthing about a youtube video

  • @Lawrence5987

My dad runs a RR Meteor from a Centurion tank and he feels the same, he scratch built his own trailer specifically for the engine and it works wonders. Big robust frame and big chunky tires (tractor tires im pretty sure)

Takes it to shows with a rebuilt Fordson Major containing a V-8 engine from a Dodge fire engine, beast of a thing.

  • @Lawrence5987 Bling would Ring!

  • These chaps plan to restore a Jumo 211 into a running display over the next few years, and I'm excited to hear how one of those engines will sound.

  • How fast do those props spin? They certainly look like they're going for it!

  • @skaterkid901

I believe the reduction gear ratio off of the crankshaft is 0.4424:1, so just under half the crank speed. These props have been cut down shorter and have less mass and they aren't going to run these engines at high power settings without a full load because that will cause damage.

  • @FiveCentsPlease Great explanation, thanks for clearing that up.

  • Reverse it so the engines push the trailer, you'll get 1000 MPG!, on the truck, anyway. :)

  • How the hell do they pull off twin props that rotate in different directions?

  • @wmcartpusher04

One propeller shaft inside the other, which is hollow. Aircraft props are usually not directly connected to the crankshaft, but are geared to rotate at a lower speed. An idler gear arrangement turns the other prop in the opposite direction. This wasn't perfected until the end of the war.

  • @FiveCentsPlease Neat-o! Never knew that was possible!

  • This is what Chuck Norris uses to power his shaver.

  • Spitfire Mk18 FTW

  • Throw in the salami and stand behind with a serving dish.

  • where does the wife sit? " What does this lever do? Forward for fully fine, yeah go on push it" now that would make a bit of a nasty mess

  • where does the wife sit?

  • ...can u pit this in a truck lol ?............

  • haha 666 coments

  • youd think the fan would pull the trailer forward at top speed like that!

  • @reallygreatlife - note the outrigger/jacks in contact with the ground on the back of both trailers, and the trailer tongues on the ground behind the operators. There's not room on the trailers for full size prop's, otherwise they probably would topple right over when the engines are cranked up.

  • @dylandumontrules

In the decades after the war, these surplus engines were used in unusual applications such as wind tunnel fans and even fruit orchards where they moved the air around during cold temps to keep the frost from damaging the fruit. So they have been used as fans from time to time.

  • Are they just doing that for amusement, or do they plan to hook the trailers to the fronts of their cars for a race?

  • Perfect engine for my chopper :D

  • I love the visuals at 1:03

  • Chuck Norris's pocket fan

  • Stay Cool All Day With a Rolls Royce Griffon (TM)

  • Santa, I've been good all year. I'd like a Rolls-Royce Phantom fitted with my favourite, 37L, 2000 HP, supercharged Rolls-Royce Griffon V12.

  • NO GEARS FLYWHEELL ENGINE TORK THROTTLE NO GEARS,

  • I WANT ONE .FOR MY SHED MY THE PEOPLE NEXT DOOR DESERVE IT.

  • Quick putur finger in!

  • porn

  • Chuck Norris has one of these engines in his electric toothbrush!

  • @reg1001 chuck norris dosnt have a toothbrush because his teeth are so clean, they end up cleaning the toothbrush!

  • @xxbulletx DAMNNN good one sir

  • @shahror09 dont thank me, thank Chuck Norris!!

  • What kind of gear ratio do these things run? Or is the propeller straight onto the crank?

  • That guy in the red is standing there like "Oh this is nothing, I'm deaf anyways so why even use any hearing protection" haha

  • i pity the poor ants crawlin around in the grass lol

  • Amazing sound.

  • Well theres no way there gonna overheat, lol

  • @mrpowdercoater

There a coolant radiator at the bottom behind the prop, and these displays are not run to high rpm or for a very long time.

  • My ears are now bleeding , I will now file a claim LOL nice film thanks

  • Looks like an accident waiting to happen

  • mr-rolls-royce.narod2.ru/modelnii_ryad/phantom_drophead_coupe - rolls royce coupe

  • Seems a bit OTT for a strimmer.

  • Running loverly until a contra bearing locks up, squeek whoosh 200mph ifor williams.

  • Fuck Slap Chop.... Sorry Vince.

  • fuck me i've gone deaf....lol

  • Is he gona fly the trailer? yayyyy

  • @sneakytouchyourplace good job them things have cut down props on or they would take off!

  • One Word..Beautiful

  • sooo cool

  • do you ever wanna stick your finger in it

  • ooo that one hell of a beauty!!

  • can you give me an email - I'd like to invite you to our display. GAL@soaks.org

  • Never park a car behind one of these unless you want it covered in oil lol

  • anyone know the contact details for these guys - would love for them to do a sohw for me. GAL@soaks.org

  • anyone know the contact details for these guys - would love for them to do a sohw for me. GAL@soaks.org

  • fantastic ,could listen to those engines all day :)

  • @spinlessbastard1 i have a mp3 on my usb flash drive that i put in my car all the time...sounds awesome... :D

  • @RadulescuBogdan please tell me its not one of those things linked to your accelarator to make your car sound like something else ,?

  • @spinlessbastard1 no no it is looped with a audio software on am mp3 file, and i play on my car stereo from USB flash drive it when i pedal to the metal on the open road :) you should see the faces on the pay toll on the highway :D:D when i exit with the sound on full on my 1200 watt audio :D

  • @RadulescuBogdan Try runnin' an 8V71 Detroit diesel. You'd really turn some ears and heads too. Now making your car/truck sound like this? Ohhhh yeaahhhh!

  • the sound of gods lawnmower

  • @WhoDaresWins08 LMAO :-)

  • Just a different way of doing your hair in the morning :-)

  • stupid music, we wanna hear the engine don't we or is that too hard for you

  • BEST lawnmowers ever!

  • How the hell is that staying still?

  • @newtongrace all in the pitch of the props as well as chocking the wheels of the trailer.the pitch of the prop creates different thrust,if its a low pitch its not gonna produce as much thrust as a higher pitch

  • @ProjectIronclad Nice one, thanks for the info

  • @ProjectIronclad

Actually the higher the pitch of the propeller the lower the RPM, so hence higher pitch produces less power than a lower pitch.

  • holy crap

  • How could that guy possibly have been standing back there, even when it was just idling, without the earmuffs?

  • @TheScientist0000000 PARDON!

  • @TheScientist0000000 - foam earplugs (compacted and inserted correctly) typically block 32 dB or so once they've finished expanding.

  • That would slice and dice a lot of salad very quickly.

  • Misfiring.

  • anyone need a good ventalation system lol

  • The P-51 Mustang kicked the germans butt in the air war over europe

  • @MrUksgt

    Because of 1 BF 109 comes10 P51.

10:1 . The germans had only little chances.

  • fuckin sweet engine

  • I was at RAF Coningsby in 04, & they were running up the Spitfires. Suddenly, from behind me there was this huge NOISE, and I didn't even turn around at first, just said "That's got to be a Griffon"

  • Some serious horsepower !!

  • I was waiting for one of em to take off -.-

  • phenomenal.

  • dude must be aware that his trailer wont fly off

  • Can I have one for my back garden just to piss the neighbours off!

  • I could listen to that sound all day....

  • Damn finest riding lawn mower I've ever seen!

  • Would be a nice Dragster engine.

  • I wonder what this engine would be capable of if it were to be build with today's materials and standards.

  • 27germans disliked this vid

  • @BHALT0S

We dont play with so tiny engines .. just search for project brutus :)

  • @bowman2062

    Still 2-0 mate

  • @BHALT0S

You mean the war ? Yeah .. but everyone can win a war .. with american help. Its important to win the peace :)

  • @bowman2062 the yanks turned up well and truly after it was started, and they never provided help during the battle of britain which I have to say sure we nearly lost the aie superiority had it not been for hitlers or his lessers to have indecision to continue the bombing, and the yanks war continued on mostly due to their reducing resources to japan and when I say We I include all Allies that were involved in the struggle for good, even the turncoat spaggetti munchers.

  • @bowman2062 and I do know there were polish spitfire fighter pilots in 303 sqaudron helping us out.

What you dont know is I am Scottish a highlander in fact (proper north of Scotland middle of nowhere place), not English, and you guys can do what yer want south of the border.

Even the yanks know their place when it comes to a Scotsman, heh even the english wish they were Scottish.

As for peace, it's hard when your ancestry for war is considered "Fun" and a hobby, its bred into us

  • @BHALT0S

Scottland is a astonishing fine piece of earth. Landscape, people.,whisky .. everything is allright. But who the fuck invented haggis? I realy eat everything, wherever i come 8i´ve even have eaten Muktuk)... but haggis must have bee invented to drive the english back .. isnt it?

  • @bowman2062

Scotland is shite mate, trust me on that one, wankers for neighbours, north/south divide on all facets in life here, fucking rains all the time, nothing to do, neds, assholes everywhere.

maybe thats why were always angry and or grumpy cunts.

  • @BHALT0S

Well .. lets make an exchange .. i get scottland and you get North Rhine-Westphalia (full of crazy muzzie shitheads building bombs in their backyard mosques and crooked politicians) Oh and we have rain too .. but it comes over from belgium ,, which means it rains deep-fried fat and dioxin. Highways are full of dutch trucks .. trying to break lightspeed and stopping for nothing and we have so much taxes that the ministry of finance isnt able to tell how much there actually are.

  • @bowman2062 aye, but you dont have the English as yer neighbours, and they're a right bunch of cunts. hahaha.

we did have some stupid arab numpty attempt to attack one of our airports, except typical Scots, one of us punched him out even though the arab chimp had set himself on fire in an attempt to blow up his jeep, arabs think they all radical this and that with their religeous wars, hahaha they are ametuers, they dont even have a football team yet.

  • @bowman2062 and it would seem as for finaces, only the chinks got their heads screwed on right, and even they follow a Scotsmans book, Adam smith the wealth of nations.

typical of our culture, able to invent some really good stuff but then fucking crap at being good at it ourselves.

and now we have a culture whereby we cant say boo to these arab/muslim cunts, without our own government backing them and shunning us, even when they burn poppy memorials on live TV.

    it's all fucked.

  • @bowman2062 i agree with what you said about haggis. I may not be Scottish, but that dish doesn't even look appetizing at all.

  • The ultimate lawn mower

  • if i owned this, i would be in the process of restoring a Spit or Mustang. :)

  • @NIGHTEHAWK If i owne done of these, i'd turn a tricycle bike into a plane and put that engine on it with the props turned around so they pushed it instead of pulling it.

  • @Fireheart528 You would make a total mockery of that engine.

  • @MisterWillie060 true, but it would still be a sight to see!

  • @NIGHTEHAWK I would put it in my Cessna 140.

  • Counter-rotating heaven..

  • coolest go cart ever

  • @smaragdboa They should put one of these on a wheeled platform with a steering axle. That would be absolutely epic.

  • Belongs on an aircraft. ;)

  • what a fantastic way to slice stubborn parsnips!

  • @eatthisvr6 You'd be lucky if there was any pieces left of the parsnips, 'cause they'd be shredded by that one.

  • Sitting around my swimming pool in the sun gets really hot. Having an airconditioner outside would just be silly and environmentally irresponsible, but one of these would be absolutely perfect.

  • what's the max RPM on that engine?

  • @TheVanKeh

The Griffon 58 was 2750 RPM, compared with 3000 RPM for the Merlin.

  • that's 2500 HP of V-1 killing power for you.

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter yep thats why these engines are so loved in tractor-pulling !! awesome !

  • @josderedneck22 can't agree more.

  • what a joy. beautiful sound. thanks for posting this, what a way to start the day in my headphones, cheers lads

  • why are the 2 props

  • @Joe5225MLS27

Contra-rotating propellers move air more efficiently than single propellers, but the design was not perfected until after WWII. Another benefit is eliminating the torque-effect of a large prop on an aircraft which can make handling tricky.

  • Good way to mash potatoes.

  • They are so big that they look like Inline 12's from a certain angle.. Oh my god brutal engines..

  • Every woman who is about to marry a, "MAN" should watch this video. Men just love machinery. Cant explain to you why, but we just do.

Woman love 500 dollar purses, cant explain to you why. Which is more important, 500 dollars worth of spark plugs or a purse?

Did these leak oil like the radials? I heard that you never start a radial unless there is oil on the ground under the engine!...lol

  • @barmtrail There are also womens that like machinery. And mens that like lacoste slings. XD

  • @barmtrail

I think these babies did leak oil, prolly even more so then Merlin's. When you look at pic of the under surfaces of say late marque Spits it more often then not is a dirty oil stained mess. None the less..just the thing to have in your garden shed right!

  • stick your hand in the propellers to check if theyre spinning right

  • Dig the Wal-Mart beaner hubcaps on the trailer's back wheels... stay classy

  • why hasn't the trailer taken off yet!?

  • chuck norris uses this as a powered razor

  • @OpticalSnare he doesn't need a raser the beard is to afraid to grow....

  • @OpticalSnare No, this was only use to start the real engine that powered his razor.

  • @OpticalSnare

Naah i think it´s for chopping he´s vegitables in the kitchen... ;-)

  • Chuck Norris uses that engine on his leaf blower.

  • I love the bloke on the next rig who must be really jealous and wont allow anyone to see him admiring it.

  • Anyone have plans for a gocart with this engine? lol

  • 27 people own a cesna

  • you know when you wave your hand over a flame just at the right speed so not to get burnt and see how slow you can go before it does, I want to see the guy in the red shirt wave his arm through the blades at just the right speed just to see if he can. Now that would be good to see.
