The theory of Conservation of energy states that energy is constant at all times in which energy is neither created or destroyed, and since Einstein's theory of relativity states that energy is mass means nothing is created or destroyed in an isolated system. We are the made of the same things as all the other things in the universe
Moby is one of those techno rockers who have a knack for gauging what is going on in the world and translating it into a musical form....God bless the thinkers....
We are atoms that were forged inside massive stars billions of years ago, born from the energy of the Big Bang billions of years before that, and have come alive by a grand process of evolution. Can there be anything more stunning than that?
My daughter Kerry asked me one day while listening to this song in the car if it was true that we are all made of stars. Yes I told her. Six months later she was gone....Now a bright star in the universe!
This song is pretty correct. We're comprised of the cosmic remnants of the early big bang. We're all connected, biologically.. and to the Earth, chemically, and to the Universe .. Atomically.
I can remember a little about who I was when this came out. : D Young, apparently 13 or 14. It was exciting because I realized my life could be as epic as the video. It wasn't, but I really liked the video. : )
"I know I'm wearing a space suit, but from in here you all look like a bunch of freaks."
Would've been a much bigger hit if Moby did a rock remix of it on Tommy Lee's "Never A Dull Moment" LP & let Tommy sing vocals w/Dave Navarro on lead guitar. Tommy actually sings backup vocals on this track. This came out the same time as Tommy's "Hold Me Down" single in 2002. While he's known for numerous dance/techno/electronic hits on the club scene, in the world of the Billboard Top 40, Moby's just a one hit wonder. "Southside" is his only Top 40 pop hit. This is his second biggest pop hit.
@AkumaxTamashii Thats sort of what hes implying, that there is no real difference between you and those "stars" both for the better and worse. Also many of those "stars" went from anonymous to famous (and in some cases infamous) and then back to anonymous. The one thing we can count on is that thing always change.
I like this song a lot more when I ignore the video. I choose to take the more literal meaning- we are actually made of the same physical matter as stars. We are made of the same stuff that the Sun is formed from. Seems much more beautiful, to me.
@hoopsfan24 I never saw the "Making Of" video. Even if I had, Moby did not originally put forth the concept that human bodies contain atoms that were once in, and formed by, stars.
@Sappheyes I just started taking Astronomy101 and I read about that in the first chapter - us, the planet, pretty much everything, being made of "star stuff" - and this song immediately popped into my head. :)
@Sappheyes I couldn't agree more - the thought that our immortality is assured in the form of stardust is far more beautiful than any religious farytales......
@Sappheyes Undoubtedly there's a double meaning here. The lyrics are too close for it to be an accident - describing how stars form, fall apart, re-form, etc. It didn't actually hit me until just now though.
@Sappheyes We're made of tons of carbon and water, which is not what stars are made of. But I guess you could think this theoretically through the big bang theory that we came from stars essentially. Even though, we are still not 'made of' stars in a literal sense.
@skassira12 Actually, we are. In the roughest sense, our solar system was formed from exactly the same swirling matter that formed the sun. In a more direct sense, some of the elements that are found on Earth and necessary for life are because of the fission in stars. Ergo, we are literally made from the byproducts that stars have sent off through time, and chances are that a good portion of your physical body, on a subatomic level, was once a massive cosmic body.
@Sappheyes Knowing the poet that Moby is, I wouldn't doubt that's exactly what he meant, and by showing a video of people whom we consider "stars" doing regular activities, he's really saying they're no more different than us, we're all made of stars.
In the US all people are united and work together to achieve greater cause.
Pathetic.
Everyone think that he/she is important and need to be in some place, and their value is grater than other people/countries.
Nothing can stop US now, Growing in number and growing in speed: since in last 40 years progress jumped further than all years of human civilization combined.
@Veilspire Leelee Sobieski. There is a wikipedia article about this song that tells you all the people that were in this video. Hope that helps. She is smokin' hot.
I think this artist deserves to sell his work wherever he wants, I never tire of listening to a man who took my emotional world and turned it into music! Why do we bash talented people instead of celebrating their success? Would you rather he never got out of his garage?

may we turn from the ways of this visible worlds temptation ,call on the name of jesus christ and be filled with the holy spirit to guide us into away form the devils temptations of sin,so after death we can escape hellfire forever and enter into eternal paradise heaven. i believe lust is a sin just like adulatury according to jesus christ
@JDavidG1989 Mark 16:15 says:"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." Acts 1:8 says "you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses" so all together, when someone seeks GOD upon recieving Jesus Christ as savior and lord there filled with the holy spirit that gives them strength to witness there truth of GOD to EVERYONE is hopes atleast few people will greatfully recieve the message as few will still reject it.so youtube theres people
How could anyone find out about this song after a blackberry commercial? You must be younger than 15 years old because this song was amazing back in the day. I remember when songs like this were actually popular. I found out about this song in a tower record store. So many memories.
@doomfroggie420 The lighter elements were produced by Big Bang nucleosynthesis. The heavier elements that make up our world...our very bodies...were produced in stars....stars now long dead. Most of the energy on this planet comes from our living star, what we call the sun. We, like almost all living organisms on this planet, are solar powered. The heavy fissile materials present on our planet are releasing energy that was obtained from a long dead star.
