  • i love this moto its so beautiful and i love the boxer sound =DDD

  • Any and all interested in an improved side stand for the R65 or other Airhead models, go to MAX BMW Motorcycles' website and find your bike there. You can also find them here on YouTube.

  • I am glad to hear it shift as clunky as both my BMW's! I have a 1970 R60/5 and a 1978 R100RS....LOVE them!

  • Très belle machine ;)

  • sneakers on a motorcycle, hardly protection and dubious driving skills..

    Must be US?

  • haha

  • IMPORTANTE CONSIGLIO!!!!!!!

Quando da fermo inserisci la prima, devi titare la frizione un attimo prima dell'innesto. Prova e vedrai che entra come il burro. Complimenti, ne posseggo una ugale del 1980.

  • Gatta love that flat twin, runs like a champ

  • fun video.

i'm wondering about that sidestand you have on your r65, it seems different than the stock one. Looking for a better sidestand. Can you tell me anything about it ?

  • @pr0fessorkai a mob in UK made a "Surefoot" aftermarket prop stand for all Boxers I've heard good reports and they're essential if you load the bike with touring luggage...

  • This video was helpful to me when I got my 79 r65 a year ago. I just got in on the road this week, though. My bike sat for years and I wasn't sure if the "clunks" from the tranny were a problem or not. For the past 3 months it was with a well-respected beemer mechanic who went over the whole bike to get it road worthy. I bought it from the original owner with only 6k on the odo. These transmissions are quirky and clunky, and this video shows that well, in my experience. Hard to shift, too.

  • @babiesknow I've had three Boxers you have to use the gears as you would a car...They don't like crunching down 3 at a time like Jap bikes !

  • Hello again!

I just made my first YouTube video of my r65 upon hitting a major milestone in my summer-long motorcycle upgrade project. I'll add it as a video response to if you want to check it out :)

  • Yes, please post it as a video response!

  • @robatron3 I really liked your video, for some reason it shows that I voted it down... don't know how to reverse it...

  • nice sound !!!!

  • I got the footpeg rubbers from a local shop, Portland Motorcycles. I just had them order me a pair of stock ones. They were $12 or $13 a piece, I believe.

  • I see you have the 8 speed transmission too. 5 froward and 3 neutral! Join us over at R65. org [remove space]

  • That's a great video! I'll have to try that mounting idea...

I thought anyone watching this video might be interested in checking out the blog I just made about my 1981 r65:

bmwr65. blogspot. com (take out the spaces)

  • Thanks for the link- you have a good blog going on there, I will have to check back on it from time to time. Where did you get your new peg rubber from?

  • we could be brothers :-)

i also have an R65 in the same color (but i'ts a 1979)

and also such an old leather jacket :-)

    veeery nice video!!

  • The camera perspective is great. That's a nice looking BMW.

  • Hey i love the camera perspective. Nice vid!

  • And something else, a good rider get of his bike and after that put it on the side stand. And the valve clearence and or the toggle? clearence is to big.

But its nice there are R65 Bmw on the road. :)

    (my english sucs i know)

  • I'm not sure what you mean about the side stand, as GAMP (generally accepted motorcycle principles) says to put out the side stand before getting off. R65's sure do go over to an uncomfortable angle though! But you're right that both intake valves were too tight at the time. I've also finally rebuilt the carbs which makes it sound (and run) a lot better.

  • Wish my '81 sounded this good on the downshift

  • Hahaha, mine R65 is build 79 - same sound, same KLABAM :-)

  • how did you mount the camera on the bike?

  • I put a boom on the small luggage rack that was on the back at the time. Probably not street legal, which is why I stayed on the side streets and made it short.

  • Thanks for the info on camera mount. Though I'm an indie filmmaker now, I spent many years rigging cameras for car commercials. No matter how high the budget, we always improvised with what we had out at remote locations. I live in a border town next to Mexico and sometimes see groups of guys on BMW650's&Dakars, heading south a loooong way!

  • Brooomm,. KLABAM!,. brooooooom Klabam,. you realy need to learn to change gear the right way dude,....

  • That's the way BMW gear boxes sound, dude

  • I drive BMW myself R65GS (ex army)

No way it make that sound, not even with my helmet of. I can sound it like that but that is the wrong way of shifting. (i can switch gear without clutch noisles to.

  • That's just the way they sound. That's the way my r65 sounds...

  • the headless moto rider

  • That's really cool.
