i was 18 loved this going on first holiday to corfu thought i would meet someone and walk in love along the beach like the couple did in the hol brochere never happened sad act just laugh at it now whenever i hear it like it though junysawrus
The amazing Laurel Masse and the Manhattans. Throughout the years, i have had this song on EVERY personal hi fi player i have ever owned, and still do today. This song will stay as fresh as the day i first heard it in 1978...pure class, luv ya Laurel.x
I loved Man-Tran's version of "Tuxedo Junction" but when this came out, it blew me away.
In fact, the whole album this comes from "Pastiche," is full of similar gems, some in "40's style," but others, were more, for the time, contemporary efforts..
The album was "unavailable," for years, but can be found on C.D. or downloaded, these days..well worth a look!
Beautiful, graceful, romantic. Just what is needed in these days of meaningless so called love songs. Laurel Masse is gorgeous, sweet voice, I could play this for ever.
Her voice has never sounded more beautiful than here, and that's quite a claim. It's right up there with 'Scotch and soda', 'It wouldn't have made any difference' and 'Je t'attends'. Don't like the costumes or choreo though - tacky, didn't quite pull it off.
I'd forgotten how gorgeous Lauren Masse was/is. I always loved this. But as a 16 year old in '78 it was a bit embarrassing to admit to liking The Clash AND this music
Great to see Laurel who left the group after a road accident. She was replaced by Cheryl Bentyne (a former coffee shop waitress). Laurel still records under her own name.
Manhattan Transfer are still going strong and will appear in London in May 2010.
massively different world mate... not just different people... technology, communications, media, music industry, end of cold war, etc...
BTw. I have this track on an old John Klemmer LP (sax) from 1978 called Arabesque. I did not realise it was even the same tune as the way its played is not quite like this... he was the original composer btw...
@myasmate Iknow what you mean - I felt like she was singing to ME - and I am sure many other listeners had the same experience. The sign of a truly magical performance.
Beautiful interpretation from a Beautiful Songbird inside and out...Laurel is just as lovely today, by the way...just saw her this past Christmas season in concert in NYC...delightful and such a smart lady, too! Blessings!
My dad had the Pastiche album and I loved this song when I was 5. Haven't heard it in so long though, thanks for posting. Laurel is probably the most desireable woman that ever lived.
I was 12 years old when I saw this on the Two Ronnies in 1978. I was just about to enter puberty. Seeing Laurel sing and perform this had a profound effect on me that saturday night when this came on! 30 years later as a man and watching it again I can see why her MOVEMENT stirred all sorts of new and unfamiliar feelings in that 12 year old Boy! True class, grace and talent. Simply not enough of this around anymore! I hope she is well wherever she is now.
I am not surprised that you had the hots for the female vocalist of Manhattan Transfer when you were twelve years of age, back in '78. She was a VERY attractive/fanciable young woman ...... and, what is more, she had a lovely voice as well, so she did.
"Walk In Love" was - and indeed still is - a great single. It reached the lower echelons of The Top 20 in the early part of 1978 (if memory serves) but it deserved to be a MUCH bigger hit that it actually was.
Sergio, quite a collection of videos you have of the group. Thanks much for posting them! Though I think someone needs to wake Alan up on that lounger *lol*
I love The Manhattan Transfer even more now - Laurel is like a goddess :)

Laurel Masse' preceded Cheryl Bentyne in MT and only dropped out because of a terrible auto accident that nearly killed her and required a long rehab.
Wow--besides a beautiful voice she does a pretty good hula dance too!
