Maestro Vieaux is a wonderful musician, & seems to be a very cool guy, but I've got to say something about the sound he gets from the guitar he recorded the Bach disc with -- this only because I'm a major fan of the disc (it's stupid to use phrases like 'my favourite performance', but if I did, it would be about his BWV998).
According to an NPR interview I heard, he traded a traditional-top guitar for this flaccid, dull-sounding double-top.
Not to be a snooty pants, but, the video opens with him playing the prelude from BWV998, which consists of a Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro, and none of those are dances. It seems odd that he would choose that as an introduction to a conversation about dance suites, when it is not part of one. Maybe that is the editor's mistake because he seems to know what he is talking about.
jay is great...but try david russell's versions. you'll feel like bach is in the room with you. don't get me wrong, jay is one of the best to hear live and cd.
I dont konw why but I dig this guy playng, his tone, and sense of interpretation.... but or the guitar is to small or he is to big! he has verry long nails, I dont like the sound of long nails, but he has TONE!!! is amaizing, I remember the first time I heard him, rumores de la caleta on a clip. incredible, so raw, powerful and in the same time intense and sweet. bravo Jason you got TALENT!
My first guitar teacher told me that listening to a Bach pieces is like listening to a conversation. In this case, a conversation of Nuclear physicists.
Does anyone at Azica know what microphones and capsules are on the stands?

His producer called it "soothing" -- snoozing?
