  • With all this Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 arguing, any real Rose player knows first off, you don't use an Ultra on a whim. Wake-up Ultras, mash Ultras, and random Ultras don't just happen at high levels consistantly. Nothing could top U2 in Super, AE with the 7 frames of startup did hurt, but using it after knockdown, you can start great pressure and mix-ups. Alot of people here seem to say, you can use U1 as a way to punish whiff or blocked Ultras, I agree, but high level players Ultra smartly.

  • so sweet! i play rose a lot so this helps XD

  • There some confusion in the posts about ultra because SSF4AE nerfed Rose's ultra 2. In AE arguably ultra 1 is better but in vanilla ultra 2 was better.

  • I first started using Rose to reflect fireball spammers. Thought it was funny. Then I started to use these more advanced techniques and am loving her. Never knew about the kara throw for her though and a couple of these orb techniques. Cool stuff.

  • rose is excellent, the day i bought ae i used her and she got me up to b rank/5467bp in 4 days and her cancels are good to. ult 2 is for people who want to show off combos or advance rose players, but ult 1 is the best one. Think about it say you fight idk ryu for example and rose is about to be finished, u use ult 2 and it wont finish him off but u use ult 1 and he is dead. I recommend all rose users to use ult 1 its the best.

    GOOD VIDEO

  • Love the video. Hoping this will improve my game with Rose; appreciate your work, sir.

  • I stll think Illusion Spark is better, I can stop almost any ultra coming at using her Ultra 1 at the right moment.

  • @Andre00x U1 is better at lower levels of play where opponents will do very punishable things (like random ultras) or when the Rose player isn't very good at utilizing U2.

When you're aware of the utilities of the move and can use it's flexibility and frequency to really press it's advantages. I've gotten U2 three times in a round before.

Sure, it does less damage than U1, but unlike U1, it has literally no downside. It is clearly the superior choice for high level play.

  • @palmra I too am a skeptic. All the best Roses at tournaments don't appear to use U2, but instead use U1. They simply utilize the ultra less than most other characters. As far as I've seen at least.

  • @OmegaFujin Sabin, Luffy, Saqs, and Sako all pretty much use U2 exclusively unless it's Blanka or U2 Rufus. What "best Roses" are you talking about?

  • @palmra lol ignore those them they obviously scrubs

  • @Andre00x What opponent would do an Ultra combo in a moment you could use your U1?

  • Video is amazing. So much new stuff I never knew about rose.

  • Totally awesome, thanks!

  • great video! im playing rose as my main now, and its good to see some of this stuff is possible!

  • Great vid!

  • @darnallt I just wanted to comment again. This video is GREAT.

  • Awesome Tutorial man, i play as rose very often but i didn´t know these kind of tricks, Thanks nowi will try that xD^^

  • u may avoid kens ultra if u cancel the soul spark and dash backwards

  • awesome video.. cant wait to learn the option selects thanks !!!!!!!

  • at 1:25, couldn't you have followed that up with a soul throw?

  • @Rogond09 nope. The fireball super raises the juggle count really high. only orbs will juggle after super.

  • hmm 8:40 I thought was nice against shotos that try to bait you into an fb war and then d-flip on you. Never occured to me to use it for that.

  • Im a rose player and after watching ur video i went from a c to a b rank! thanks.Haha

    .

  • Im a rose player and after watching ur video i went from a c to a b rank! thanks.Haha.

  • I was fighting a B class Rose the other night. Had me locked down when they turtled. They did some sort of combo into that spiral scarf move and I couldn't punish it. When I jumped it was crouching fierce. The ultra on the other hand has a few weak points but all in all still very formidable. A split second after it's initiated there's a gap to attack. Gonna have to do more research on how to beat this damn ultra.

  • @Toomnyusernae actually, there is no gap. As shown in the video, even zangief's super (fastest attack in the game, 1 frame), cannot grab rose for free after the orb startup. She can just jump away. The soul spiral moves can be anywhere from +2 to -8 depending on the strength used and distance from you.

  • I didn't mean gap where she was vulnerable but gap where you could try and hit her without getting slapped by one of those orbs ;p I was using El Fuerte and had the Rose player cornered and did a tortilla throw. Rose activates ultra . . . . GRAB* spin spin spin spin spin dead_^)

  • Awesome tips. I've been maining Rose for a couple weeks now just started working on her U2 yesterday. I always used U1, so making the transition is a bit tricky but this video has shown some great moves with them. Thanks for the video!

  • thx for uploading this :D great work

  • What do you mean rose is good NOW?? She was ALWAYS good! Rose Forever!

  • you can do that double focus into soul throw on ryu caint you... im going to try

  • @blaa15 no. That combo doesn't work on Ryu, Ken, Dictator, Ibuki for sure. There may be others.

  • @palmra Damn you capcom...lol next dlc will patch this up and give rose a command dash and a overhead lol

  • @palmra whos dictator?

  • @GGxProductions dictator is U.S. M.Bison. Due to the confusion of the switched names of M.Bison, Vega, and Balrog in Japan/U.S, players have come to nicknaming them Dictator, Claw, and Boxer in order to avoid any possible confusion.

  • @palmra ohhh okay thanks alot :)

  • sick......!

  • Great vid man! This is very helpful, especially against abel's new ultra

  • I imagine dozens of Guile players shit their pants from your last example.

  • I dont want to seem scrubby but can anyone go a bit more in depth about the kara throwing. Im not doing too shabby with rose myself poking my way to victory and i think that would really step it up a little. It is a bit hard to see the input data so im not 100% sure whats going on there if anyone wouldnt mind explaining.

  • One step closer to my Alpha 2 Rose CCs, lol. Thanks for the vid, man.

  • I just gotta say dude, I've been trying to pick up Rose for the past day and your video just made my life SO much easier. You're a fuckin genius

  • @gootecks Thanks, Ryan. That means a lot. I have some more ideas for a version 2.0 of this video (with better visuals and more information). I also have a fancy combo and some WTF setups in mind.

I think the most important parts of this video are the reversal Ultra-2 options and the option selects.

  • ultra 1 still seems more useful since the damage is better, plus the whole point is to lower your opponent's health before you so ultra 1 seems better. It works against jump-ins and can work on reversals so on average it will get the job done. This ultra does have more options and more you can do off of it, but the damage and the super bar used for it doesnt seem like a very good trade off

  • @dragonmaster951753 Ultra 1 is basically a 12 frame anti air with a double QCF input. I'm not sure how much Rose you played in vanilla, but hitting it as anti air was pretty frustrating and you had to spend focus reacting fast enough to a jump. Even then, it could trade against high jumps, like bison.

U1 utility in vanilla was after focus and as a punisher against really laggy stuff.

Don't just look at orb damage, but also damage it can create. C.FP-Spark-FADC-Orbs-Slide-Sweep did 417...

  • @palmra it did 417 with full ultra, but it seems like that combo would be more frustrating than reading someone who was jumping in. I personally didn't play rose but several high level players around me did, and anti airing with it wsa nothing for them. I do see the options that U2 creates, it has SEVERAL options that could be useful in multiple situations, but wouldn't there still be options that could be used with just EX bars and instead you could save your U1

  • How does the wake up U2 vs Hurricane into dash into clean hit work?

  • @sibladeko Orbs are projectiles and will absorb hits of the hurricane, allowing you to simply dash through and hit his recovery. Useful to evade the chip death.

  • Do you input both qcb+ppp while still in the air?

  • Glad to see that Rose got a little boosted.

  • For the option select what is QCB, the PPP is triple punch but what is QCB?

  • @lDaisuke Quarter Circle Back. Or in Number format 214

  • @palmra also could be described as a reverse fireball motion

  • This was an amazing tutorial man :D

I love using Rose in Endless.

  • yay i play rose... on psn add me anyone and i also main ibuki and dable in c.viper and cammy,, and sakura i play only female characters.. hence THORN_BUSH

  • I knew she was good the moment some Rose player wooped my ass. Ok it would have been a different fight if online lag wouldnt make grabs untechable but she still great. I would almost call her a shoto killer cuz she has the advantage when it comes to fireballs and footsies cuz of her slide. But Im no Rose player so you tell me :P

  • Well now EVERYONE is gonna use rose :(

  • lol@people saying damage sucks for U2 or that U2 sucks.

have fun trying to get U1 off or never doing anything on obvious crossups. lmao.

  • Awesome wok. Showed me some cool tricks....Thanks brotha'

  • testing post

  • Pretty good vid. But saying that Rose is "good" now is pretty retarded. Don't get butthurt either :)

Rose was pretty good in SF4 used her through out all of my SF$ playing and she served me very well. If use properly she was pretty good. In my eyes REALLY good. SSF4 Rose is just even better!

  • Wow this is a really amazing tutorial video ^-^/ keep up the great work and thank you!

  • this was a very useful video, thanks.

  • Nice research. Abel's Breathless is hard to deal with still especially if they wait and take a hit from one of the orbs (I think he can).

  • @Toomnyusernae orbs break armor, so he cannot. trick is they appear in 5frames, so you still have to jump (safe), or CS.MK (risky, if you get S.MK, you're going for a ride)

  • Awesome video thanks for uploading this

  • awesome vid :)

  • Good shit Mr.Palm. I'm definitely gonna be picking up Rose too.

  • Wow pure Gold.... Thanks Palmra

  • OS safe jump to U2 is pretty smart stuff. Good shit and thanks for sharing the knowledge.

  • haa! this is amazing

  • Nice video. One thing though, rose was always good. The only thing that change about her was a new ultra and her ability to combo into soul throw but besides that she has been a solid character, she just didn't have a reliable reversal but other than that she's solid, god like pokes and she does good damage, have good health and good stun.

Final Round from srk Zangief forums

  • nice video --- from a fellow sf4 forum lurker

  • Orbs still doesn't look very good to me. They look okay in some combos, but scaling kills them, especially considering that they only do 100 damage each and take meter to implement in most combos. Also, I've never been a fan of wake up Ultra, and most situations in the video are similar to that situation. Ultra 1 isn't especially great, but I'd rather have the guaranteed anti-air/punish damage than have to guess for 200 damage.

  • @jetsyrup apparently you didn't actually WATCH or read the descriptions in the video. OPTION SELECT means that the game picks the best option. If they do anything invincible, orbs come out and you can counter their move. If not, your fierce comes out with normal block string. In every option select clip, orbs connect, and most times you can combo after them for much more than 200 damage. It's definitely not "wake up ultra". I made this video so guys like you could actually learn to play.

  • @palmra dont mind that guy, if he cant see how great the orbs are, let him choose U1. But yea good job, and rose is a force to be reckoned with in this one

  • @palmra Wow, you get riled up easily. I was referring to situations like the whole Dictator thing at 1:32 - 2:00 and the Gief thing at 2:01 - 2:06. The first is a wake up ultra, and the second has you using meter as a guess that Gief is going to. The Soul Throw cross up is another guess situation that potentially only leads to 100 damage. Then there's the chip damage display at 2:48 that has you blowing full super and ultra for virtually no damage.

  • @palmra Your level 3 focus trick (2:31) is another guess; you're very likely to get a reversal DP. The instant over head (2:46) is a guess that does very low damage for ultra as well. If you're going to use it as an anti-air (2:52), you might as well use Ultra 1 and save your super. Also, the option select shown here looks very situational. 5:10 shows it to be unreliable against backdashing, and it's useless against Akuma, Dictator, Seth, Dhalsim (teleport) and in many other situations.

  • @jetsyrup Apparently you didn't understand the video. The dictator and gief examples were to show what the ultra was capable of- reversal wise Dic's slide is the perfect meaty attack, so it serves a good example. If she can activate and block/focus/EX spiral that attack, she can do it to anything. The Gief example was to illustrate that she can jump immediately after activation.

As for the chip damage, it does 125 damage in chip. I suppose you're going to save the meter for round 4?

  • @palmra But again, the wake up Ultra is a guess. You can see something like Dictator's slide coming with it, but how many other things can you punish on wake up? Also, how many other things can you punish on wake up with it that you can't punish for more damage and less meter with Ultra 1? As far as the chip damage goes, I'm a big fan of fireball supers, and I don't think there's really any reason to just be sitting on it for too long anyway. I'll be looking to land it the first chance I get.

  • @jetsyrup also, the O/S CAN punish teles and Bdashes, I just can't program the dummy that long. Rose can activate, spot the Bdash, sweep if she wants to keep orbs, or drill for 300 damage.

Lvl3 focus can be backdashed too to get uppercut to whiff.

Super->Ultra as AA is just an option.

"guesses" are usually referred to as mixups, and can even occur after a Rose uses orbs defensively.

She gets two ultras a round. You can use some on "guesses" since It's safe to do so.

  • @palmra If the option select covers all bases, then it might be okay against some characters, but I don't see how it punishes teleport or Abel's roll or Fuerte's run, etc. The level 3 focus backdash thing is another guess that uses full Ultra for a 50/50 chance of hitting. Sure guessing with Orbs is safe, but I stick to my original point that I prefer Ultra 1, even with its minimal versatility.

  • @palmra Yeah. I am really glad to see this video man. Thanks for posting. Lots of neat tricks and the option select is just what I need to add to my Rose game. Currently prefer shamwow, I have been looking for the reason everybody loves U2 and I think I'm starting to see. good stuff.

  • ultra #2 is amazing!

  • rose's theme (broken telephone mix)

  • This was a fantastic video!!! Thanks Renegade. Yet another reason why I love this community.

  • i get a lot of trouble whrn facing rose nowadays, in ssf4

    great tutorial,

  • Great video, almost gave up on Rose.

  • Awesome!

Not a Rose player, but its nice to see what she can do!

Very nice tutorial. I hope to see better Roses out there.

  • Simple combos

  • @NoName7467 The focus of this tutorial is practical things that could improve a rose in a real match. Sorry to disappoint those who only look at combo counters and not match utility.

  • @NoName7467 nothing wrong with it

  • lol rose was always good, people are just realizing it now... smh

  • @blayze995 i totally agrree w/u i mained her at sf4, and i won matches more often than w other characters,

  • Great tech. Loved it. Time to get in the lab. Thank you Renegade!

  • Hey that was pretty good! I never used Rose before, But this was an interesting watch.
