video makes no sence to what the song is about or is reference-pulled from airwaves-yes-that is all we had for most part in sharing music- in early 80's--very addicting music-through in the snow your hooked--glad i made it out alive
I feel stupid to admit that, even though I knew my rock pretty well, the first time I heard this I didn't know this was Styx until Tommy's vocals came in. As long as James was singing and that synth riff was playing, I was thinking, " damn, this is a cool song, I wonder who it is?"
It's really about any addiction, including money, power, status, materialism. It's about seeing the surface and not the depth of anything. It's about how the snow, literal snow can blind you to the truth.
Neo: Why does the light hurt my eyes?
Morpheus: Because you've never used them before.
Most people are literal, left-brained, and stupid.
And sacred, you obviously didn't know that their original name was Trade Winds 4, but the record label already had a band by that name, Oh, and Hades and Hell are two different places, two different religions, two different concepts. Nice try though
великолепная работа на тему песни, и ничего, что сама песня про кокаин, что не совпадает с темой фильма. Главное, что все получилось органично и загадочно. А для тех, кто фильм не смотрел и содержания песни не знает - вообще все будет по кайфу.
I forgot all about this songs other meaning with the devil thing. Every time i listen to this song it makes me think about the white power. The song is so freakin easy to understand what its about. I mean come on (DEVIL IN WHITE) is cocaine. Your so fine, i can't get away, is cocaine. How can anybody think this song is about anything other the a person's addition to cocaine. Because they say devil it is about the devil, how lame. Don't like the music then don't listen to it.
@Shinzu92 You Athiest Bastard! God Is My God, And He Always Will Be! YouTube Is NO Place To Say Shit Like That! This Song Is About A Cocaine Addict, Not A Satan Worshiper. I Can See Why You Said That, Because Apparently YOU Are The Satan Worshiper. Oh, COULD YOU PEOPLE CUT IT OUT WITH THE FUCKING ILLUMINATI CRAP!?
I don't quite grasp all of this Satanista crap. The Homo Habilis types who condemn Styx are not exactly Mensa alumni, do you get me?
One arcane thing I DO know: Shaw is a freaking Hobbit. No, I mean it! Tommy is a stupefyingly talented guitarist and all that, yes yes yes. All hail to Shaw, the Guitar Lord- absolutely.
BUT: he's also a freaking Hobbit. The Dude don't measure but all of 4 foot 6". Don't piss him off, 'cuz he'll gnaw right through your ankle.
Awesome song! If you play it backwards it's wicked creepy and one part sounds like "satan moves in our voices". People were busting their balls about it long before Tipper Gore
Awesome song! If you play it backwards it's wicked creepy and one part sounds like "satan moves in our voices". People were busting their balls about it long before Tipper Gore
Gee, was I ever wrong. (oops. T'was just my guess about the song. Thought it was about J.Y. taking Tommy out of his shell as mentioned in Guitar Player summer 81 issue) So it was about that (cough, cough) 'white substance'. Gee whizz!
For all you who didn't read the caption, the video is listed as Snowblind with a Night Gallery episode (an old tv show similar to Twilight Zone.) Tommy Shaw admitted in an interview that he used to do coke in the early '80s, maybe some of the other band members also did?
@tjrtherocksponge Thank you! now i know, and oh i didnt know it actually broke them up, i wasnt alive then, i was born in 1991, but im a big follower!!! i always love to learn something new about my favorite rock band :)
I dont actually think dennis was to much involved in the writing, just because tommy shaw was the one who had the cocain problem, thats why he almost lost his wife, but im not sure on this one.
This song is indeed about cocain, listen to the one verse, "harmless and innocent, you devil in white, you stole my will without a fight, you filled me with confidence, blinded my eyes, trick me with visions of paradise" totally bout coke
like many songs there is a dual meaning. many parents forbad their kids to listen to styx because of this song. i chose to interpret it as a love song.
You are right.. i always loved this song, but i didn't really understand what it meant.. now i know after you said cocaine, the words make sense. best cocaine addiction song ever
Ya I know the song is kind of a joke but after a couple of beers it sounds pretty good. My point is for every good song they had they had a big joke song. I think Lady and The Best of times are two of the worst songs in rock and roll history. Conversely, I love snowblind and renegade
The album that song was on: they came up with it to fight accusations over the alleged backwards line "Satan moves through our voices" heard in "Snowblind."
i think this just became my fav styx song. i love how jy starts off ominous and dark and mysterious(actually reminds me of phantom of the opera) then shaw comes in pushing the song into a whole new dimension
I love Styx and this is defiantly is a classic. They were great till they jumped the shark with Kilroy was here. I just couldn't get into that mr. roboto shit. I could have wore out The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight.
I like how you hear James Young's voice very deep and slow, pretty calming, then it just turns into Tommys energetic voice, that changes the song completely!
The whole satanist thing was started by Al Gore's wife in a futile attempt to rid the the world from rock. The song is about a friend on crack and not satan. By the way, turn the song backwards, it doesn't sound like anything evil. It sound like someone gargling
I think most bands used the satanist thing to sell more albums. KISS, Rush, Motley Crue etc. King Diamond and Marilyn Manson are the only two artists that I know of who are real satanists.
I just looked up the allegations made against this song, as well as the other songs that were accused of having "backwards, satanic messages." LOL these women deserve to be shot, for they are the only ones trying to spread evil by trying to downplay the greatness of these songs and the bands that played them!

superstitious stupid bastards. Decade after decade, attacking music. Just like the Salem witch trials, GOD give me a fuckin break. And WTF kind of name is TIPPER, anyway???!!??
Some people claimed that this song had satanic messages when you played it backwards. Of course, that was a whole pile of bullshit because anybody that knew STYX would know they're not that kind of band.
Chug, I never realized it was anti-drug, but it actually is when you listen to the words, isn't it?
I know Tipper Gore was the one that said it had backward Satanic messages in it... which was hilarious to me at the time since any Styx fan knew better! Glad she gave all her foolishness up!

Its hard to find this out, but from what I've heard if you light a couple up, get hammered, spin yourself around and stand on your head the "I try so hard to make it so" is supposed to be "Satan move through our voices." This, of course, in an anti-drug song. See Kilroy Was Here for the Stygian reply
By far one of the best songs from Styx, from one of the best Albums ever recorded (Paradise Theatre), along with Moving Pictures,Led Zeppelin II, Dark Side of the Moon, Toys in the Attic and Hotel California. Long Live Rock and Roll. CLASSIC. Nothing in today's music comes remotely close.
I believe in God and Jesus Christ, but I do not believe in the absurd claims of backmasking. For a good rebuttal of the idea, view the Wikipedia article on it.

Yep - the lyrics remove any doubt what "snow" James Young was singing about.
25 or 6 to 4 - another fun drug song.

for anyone who doesnt know, this song is about the cocaine. perhaps the child in the video represents the innocence lost.....
also check out 25 or 6 to 4 by chicago for a simular song.

Most preachers thought this song was written by Lucifer. Preachers are gay.

I believe in God and Jesus Christ, but I do not believe in the absurd claims of backmasking. For a good rebuttal of the idea, view the Wikipedia article on it.

For the record, I am actually rather conservative, as such things go.
