  • @wajalama Unless you're running a big shaft Turbonetics and E100, which I've only ever seen on some rally cars, you need both of those things.  You sir, don't know anything about cars. And before you try arguing with me, I have 18yrs under the hood, 10 of those years with turbos and nitrous. You might be able to get away with 4 or 5psi w/o an intercooler... but on anything short of race gas you're just going to yank timing and gain next to nothing. A PRV of some sort is required.

  • @mrmeanr Seems like you need some more "years" experience there, Mr. Mechanic. The video never stated that he had some huge turbo, who know's what he's got. What I do know that having a blow off valve or bypass valve on a small turbo running low boost is unnecessary, same with having a intercooler, whether it's big or small. Hell, there are turbo kits made by reputable companies that don't require both the things I listed.

  • @wajalama Do you know what a turbo costs? Do you understand what a PRV does? Unless you like burning up bearings or bushings in the center section of $400-$1000 turbos every couple months, you use a PRV. I'm not going to argue with some internet keyboard know it all about something EVERY ENGINE BUILDER IN THE WORLD already knows. You have to have those things or you'll burn up turbos, or you'll get almost instant detonation w/o Ethanol. Stick to XBOX and leave the engines to the pros.

YOU, on the other hand, all you've got is that it doesn't have an intercooler or a blow off valve, so that instantly makes it non-turbocharged. WRONG. If you really studied 18 years+ in automotive classes, you would know better.

    Burning up turbines? Do you even have the faintest idea of what you're talking about?

  • @wajalama Let's first start with: I know it's turbo charged. I know turbos are street legal. Not sure where you're getting the impression where I said they weren't. Secondly, you can run a turbo w/o an intercooler or PRV, but you're going to destroy both the turbo, and the engine. An intercooler's job is cool 400-500degF air down to about ~120 before entering the engine, increasing power, reducing timing retard, and preventing detonation.

    No, you can run a turbo kit that was made for a specific engine, such as many aftermarket companies do, they often supply a piggyback ecu or an FPR to make sure it runs safely until it gets tuned.

  • @mrmeanr A PRV is designed to prevent pressurized air from the turbo, being halted and forced backwards into the rapidly spinning compressor wheel when the throttle body closes suddenly when you shift, or let out of the throttle. Both of those items, come on every single factory turbo charged vehicle in the world, including diesels that literally operate on the principle of detonation. Now you can give me all the names you want, but the bottom line is, w/o Ethanol, or a Big shaft turbo, BOOM.

  • @mrmeanr I am finished discussing this. You can NEVER win an argument to any reputable shop or engine builder that it's completely fine to run the nuts off an engine while free of a PRV and/or intercooler on a turbocharged anything, no matter how low the compression is. You just cant do it.

  • @djkallejero Well.... I'm still researching before i start my build. But I'm assuming 5grand is a good sized budget

    You can easily buy kits for 2 grand, but don't forget about reliability. Unless you wanna get fucked over in a few months, make sure the parts you buy are well built and proven to work.

    You also have to make sure you factor in engine tuning. If you've never tuned a car before (I haven't either), then its smart to get someone else to do it to make sure its done right.

Join a reputable forum (team integra, honda tech, club integra) and read up on the articles they have so you can make your own decisions as to what you want to buy. Stop lego building, its all about engine packaging. Your parts should all compliment each other.

  • WOA My teg at low boost is 16psi and it makes 420whp and at high boost which is 26psi is making 600whp, You should be getting more for 30psi and it should be way more then 500hp more then 500whp also.

  • Yes, they're the same. Only difference motor-wise is that after 1996 they're controlled with OBD-2 computers, not OBD-1.

    The transmissions are also the same.

  • You cannot tune, chip, or alter an OBD-2 computer. you can buy some devices like AEM's system, but that's almosy $1500.

    So you convert to OBD-1. You get an OBD-1 ECU, which for B-series VTEC is usually a p72, p28, etc. You will also need an OBD-2 to OBD-1 conversion or known as a 'jumper' harness.

  • Wrong first off its vtec not v-tech

    a gsr is a b18c1

    an ls is b18b or b18a1 non vtec

    an ls block with a gsr head is what we call an LS/VTEC setup

    when boosting either an ls/vtec or just a straight vtec motor. you do not cancel out vtec. boost and vtec work at the same time.
