  • every time i type sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre and whatever, i get the password thing, then i get: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

and then i try what it says it do (dpkg --configure -a) it says:

dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege

    what do i do????

  • put sudo in front of it then give your pass word this makes u a superuser. or just type su then root password. if u havent set one then type sudo passwd then set root password. gl

    thanks anyway :)

  • thanks man this helped me alot

  • As a user horribly rooted to the M$ coorporation it is confidence booster to *know* that it is easy to install software on Ubuntu using apt-get. It gave me strength to know why I needed Java installed on my system, although this information is probably obvious to many. I now know that compiling programs in Java using Ubuntu can be easy. Thanks a lot. Keep 'em coming :)

  • hmm i need simple easy way to istall it

  • sorry to bother but I am desperate with JRE.I have Hardy heron and the latest release of Firefox 3.0. thing is that I already "installed" sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre and I get: sun-java6-jre is already the newest version.

0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

the issue is that wether I can watch youtube there are some websites that still requires me to install JRE. Do you have any idea what is going on ? THANKS!

  • i did that and now its saying the java is corrupt wtf

  • how do you install java on fedora (i'm a noob)

    plz help me

  • What did you press when you were in "OPERATING SYSTEM DISTRIBUTOR LICENSE AGREMMENT"??

  • how to open the thing u type command in (shell)¨?????????+

  • do u have to download something before u can install it with the command? i have the same operating system as you

  • nope, you just need to type the command

    "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre"

as the guy said below, and ubuntu will download and install the application itself

  • What is the command to apt-get the java that you was using?

  • The command to install java was:

    "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre"

Sorry, YouTube compresses the MP4 files I upload, blurring them. I'm looking for a better video format.

  • @cgermany77 it doesn't work it says in exact words "Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

is only available from another source

E: Package sun-java6-jre has no installation candidate"

do I need to download somthing first before I install this?

  • @mlanonymous I get the same thing, did you figured out how to install it? If yes please help.

  • @alanibanez actually I just gave up on it.. instead, I found that in the software packages source....

  • @mlanonymous The thing is that I am unable to install limewire if I dont have java installed. Thanks.
