thats the problem with much of our legislature, they lack the courage to do what is obviously right for the sake of their political career. for all of his faults, JFK is the politician who confronted the evil of our system. they evoke his name all the time, but the dont have an ounce of the courage that he did. same can be said for MLK. both of these men would have choice words for the politicians who usurp more and more of our rights every day

Graham is admitting he's a weak human being and saying the Court's role is so important because it can do what the politicians can't. Anyone who's SC senator in the 1950s would not have desegregated schools, whether republican or democrat. everyone watching and commenting this wouldn't have done shit to fight racism.

It's most definitely not courageous to admit you would lack the courage to stand up to racism even if segregation was supported by the people who voted for you. Because it's wrong, plain and simple.

MLK had the balls to do that & Lyndon Johnson did as well. That doesn't count the thousands of protestors that marched into Selma or the civil rights workers who lost their lives while protesting. Brown v the Board of Education was handed down in 1954. Original suit filed in 1950. Little Rock schools desegregated, 1957. You either have it (the courage to do what's morally right) or you don't. Lindsay Graham doesn't have it.

it was those "armchair democrats" like my parents, who told me & my siblings that segregation was wrong. it was those "armchair democrats" who inspired me to fight for equal rights for all. they gave me the courage, as a gay man, to fight openly & proudly for MY own equality.
