School are bad for our kids there not teaching them the black leaders think more of money than there kids or they would let family's pick the schools for there kids and bad schools and teacher would be a thing of the past
thats the problem with much of our legislature, they lack the courage to do what is obviously right for the sake of their political career. for all of his faults, JFK is the politician who confronted the evil of our system. they evoke his name all the time, but the dont have an ounce of the courage that he did. same can be said for MLK. both of these men would have choice words for the politicians who usurp more and more of our rights every day
I'm an Obama and Sotomayer supporter, but liberals calm the fuck down.
Graham is admitting he's a weak human being and saying the Court's role is so important because it can do what the politicians can't. Anyone who's SC senator in the 1950s would not have desegregated schools, whether republican or democrat. everyone watching and commenting this wouldn't have done shit to fight racism.
I just hope Sotomayer makes history and then liberals would just shut up.
John McCain voted against celebrating MLK day both in Arizona and as a national celebration. Republicans are a racist bunch I tell ya. All cut from the same cloth
No republican would ever stand up to racism, thats why they crucified judge Sonia Sotomayor, they are a racist bunch I tell ya, all cut from the same cloth
He was saying that he would not have stood up if he was a SC senator back in the 1950s. Anyone in that position at the time would've done the same thing. anyone can talk about racism on youtube in 2009.
i'm curious what you've done to stand up against racism in the South back in 1950s.
No, not everyone would have done the same thing and not everyone did condone segregation.
It's most definitely not courageous to admit you would lack the courage to stand up to racism even if segregation was supported by the people who voted for you. Because it's wrong, plain and simple.
I'm not condoning racism or people who get away with it. It's absolutely wrong. but people can be morally weak when they face so much pressure. what you've done if you were a SC senator back in 1950s (democrat or republican)? do you really think you would've just lose your seat and be a hero? it's a lot easier said than done. only people like MLK who actually gave his life can make a difference.
Who names their kid "Lindsey" anyway. That's like Lindsey Waggoner, the bionic woman. Lindsey Graham is the bionic woman. Would someone please decommission that model?
Man all of you people insult him, plain and simple back then you could have been shot for desegregating schools. How many of you armchair democrats would have had the balls to do that.
MLK had the balls to do that & Lyndon Johnson did as well. That doesn't count the thousands of protestors that marched into Selma or the civil rights workers who lost their lives while protesting. Brown v the Board of Education was handed down in 1954. Original suit filed in 1950. Little Rock schools desegregated, 1957. You either have it (the courage to do what's morally right) or you don't. Lindsay Graham doesn't have it.
it was those "armchair democrats" like my parents, who told me & my siblings that segregation was wrong. it was those "armchair democrats" who inspired me to fight for equal rights for all. they gave me the courage, as a gay man, to fight openly & proudly for MY own equality.
never underestimate the power of an "armchair democrat". my laborer father had 4 children & couldn't travel the south to stand up for equality, but he did inspire his children to do so, so as usual you're WRONG!
Well since he lacked the courage to tell SC gov Mark Sanford (the LuvGuv) to step down after it was disclosed he'd been using his various political offices to arrange affairs for 15 years, I don't doubt for a minute that he would have lacked the courage to even go near desegregation. Spineless.
graham ancestors r responsible for the same crimes that the ancestors of the amenesty international people from britain are guilty of. they all have some nerve to criticize others. u talk bout your human rights activist brukins, go seek human rights for the people that were oppressed, go check your history.
I don't have a problem with this, i think its stunningly brave and honest of him politically.

Schools are still segregated, what the hell is he talking about? Rich kids go to one school, poor kids go to another.

Lindsay Graham went crazy for a while during the Bush term, but seems to be re-gaining his common sense now.
