Alex- Whaaaa??? this is magic!!!! i twink is you gi owh and i lay a land downwards, for this reson i play 2, and so you are a refery ????? No. dont judge me ok.
Just the way he's handling his deck and rummaging his hand like a skilled magician is proof cheating will come easy to him. Lightning fast moves every time.
@rafuch He played a land, played Explore, drew a card, played the additional land from Explore. Then he played Preordain, and used the Scry, then drew, and played ANOTHER land, one that's illegal.
wow, I built a deck that mana pops out like crazy and I can't even get 6 mana out on turn 3 it's hilarious how he did explore turn II then three and his opponent never really paid attention to the game state. Thats when you scream Judge.
@dreminonsiba 6 mana turn 3? I had an Eldrazi green that, if I got lucky, could get 6 mana T3... 3 forest, joraga treespeaker, overgrown battlement, primeval titan, and a random other card... T1: Forest, summon Treespeaker. T2: Forest, 1G to level up Treespeaker, tap Treespeaker for GG and summon Battlement. T3: Forest, Tap 3 Forests, Treespeaker, and Battlement for Primeval Titan.. thus, 6 mana by turn 3
This was from January of 2011 I was at that star city games. That is complete bullshit. Other players probably do it too, how can we compete with that?
poor guy on the right side "yeah, he is good". makes you wonder what is he thinking when he watches alex at the other side of the table playing. is he actually paying attention to anything he's doing? if he skeaks a titan into play, would he see it?
i hope he gets the perma-ban hammer, there is lots of evidence of he cheating several times before, witnesses never believed cause it was his opponents that he cheated. judges just wrote it off as them being salty for losing. hell the way i hear it, this guy got lots of ppl disqualified for reasons they shouldnt have been, just so he could win. yes i hope he gets the perma ban hammer and i hope it hits him so hard he craps himself for 3 days straight
This seems pretty minor but I think he knew what he was doing, Still, it's not like he was cribbing cards in his lap. His opponent didn't seem wise to what was going on either. I love his completely ashen, "What, huh? Oh, I don't know anything....I didn't even know how many turns there's been." This happens all the time at FNM though when players don't announce what they're doing and you have to stop and ask opponents why they think they can play certain cards. CHEATERS LOVE SILENCE.
@ghostusher he didn't make a mistake, he knew exactly what he did. Jesus people stop defending this guy, HE IS A CHEATER!!!! HE IS BANNED FOR BEING A CHEATER!!!! Get It????
after watching a lot of videos of this guy. he cheats all the time and people just miss it. the proof is there. maybe a suspensions isn't harsh enough. maybe wizards should only let him play magic online, cant cheat there.
Everyone is too busy looking at the Explore cheat to realize that after he Preordain's, he flips his deck over and looks at the bottom card and then puts the 2 cards at the bottom. He does it fast so no one notices but that is a blatant cheat as now he knows what the bottom 3 cards of his library are. I've caught people flipping their deck over like this where I play and called them out on it. These people practice it to make it look natural so no one will think about it.
how do you not notice that fake second explore!? That was sitting there during your previous turn. I know your mind might be kind of wrapped around things and get in the way of some minor details, but seriously? kid should have definitely been paying attention
Watched this a few times now and didn't realize that he is essentially shitting his pants until the idiot being cheated bails him out by saying "he's good". That stupid little sucking he's doing with his mouth to buy time while he fabricates something.
I like how he asks his opponent "I played two explores right?" like he forgot to drop the additional land from the second one. And when he looks at the bottom of his deck after the ponder.
"ive explored twice right? So I can play another land yet rihgt?..." Opponent nods his head yes... WOW pay attention next time its free.... and only turn 3 lewl. Bertoncini totally knew what he was doing.
the most incriminating evidence of blatant cheating (and not accidental misplay) is the response alex gave after being asked "what turn is it?"
ans: "two explores"
alex knew exactly why he was being questioned, and knew exactly how to cheat. its difficult to hear, but the guy taping it asked again 'what turn is it', and then alex responsds:
"myyy turn four"
he even cheated in trying to tell them that it was his TURN 4!! to try and prove that 6 lands on two explores was good. disgusting
@signofthehammer He was a frequent staller. He would take absurd amounts of time shuffling and making plays. If I remember correctly he was banned for either theft or cheating
haha i like how in addition to playing an extra land he just blatantly looks at the bottom of his deck when putting his cards back off of preordain, like just turns his deck upside down. this dudes unbelievable.
Calling a Judge was certainly what needed to be done. However, not calling the judge does not justify the cheating, or permit it in any way. I hope some high level judges take a look at this and hand the appropriate penalties down. This is damning evidence.
His feigned acting at 1:13 of "I can play one more land, right?" is exactly why this is cheating. He gets his opponent to agree to a game state that is obviously false--and Alex knows it. The lowest of the low.
@ratchet1215 I'm subscribed to you dude, and we actually matched once on GH3 out of boredom on your live vid chat, and that's the only reason I'm watching this video, but I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea what the fuck I just watched lol is it that magic the gathering card game...?
@MUSCLESzGLASSES A well-known Magic: the Gathering pro (who just won a Player of the Year award and a very large prize for his performance at this tournament) made an illegal move during this game.
Whether he did so knowingly or not, when called out on it very clearly by the observer he unquestionably realized his mistake but refused to acknowledge it, thinking that it'd just be easier for him if nobody else knew about it, and argued his play was legal until his opponent erroneously agreed.
@liverpoolrulez8 Actually, it was his opponent who said "He's good". Then the videotaper says "Are you sure?" and Alex's opponent nods. Lol. I wouldn't have let him slide like that if I was either of them..
@christopherxgordon Maybe it's different for higher level events, but the video taper needs to stop the play and call a judge. otherwise it's on him too,
@H4WKEYES I completely agree with you. The judge should have been notified immediately and it's both the spectator and opponent's fault for not taking the issue to a higher authority. Apparently, Drew Levin will be posting an article about multiple incidents and documentations of Alex cheating on Monday, December 12th. I can't wait to read that article..
@Yakriiii Yeah, me too. I would have called it a little sooner too, not as late as the camera man did.. As soon as Alex said "I can play one more land, right?", I would have interjected "No, you can't..'
@MrFLATHOON No, not Wizard's official Player of The Year title. The Star City Games Player of The Year is what I was referencing. They announced him on their website today as their official "Play of The Year".. Yeah, I was confused too..
Is this an old video? If not what format are they playing?? I see Explores and Preordains, so I'm thinking last year's standard? Why is this only showing up now? Anyway I agree that this is obvious cheating, but should a spectator really be getting a judge? I can't believe the player didn't call him on it and said "he's good." Is he afraid to call a judge or something??
I don't like how SCG didn't mention the cheating at all, only very shortly by the commentators AFTER the guy gets his big-ass cheque in the bag. We got some hard proof here, I hope they fix this somehow even though it might already be too late.
So was this video ever shown to the SCG judges? Why was it not reported? Was this even a real game or was it a side game. It's obvious that Alex knew what he was doing. I want to know what the judges have to say about this video.
He's a damn cheater, he played 3 lands on turn 2, 1 with explore, 1 with his normal turn and while his opponent was watching his hand he played a third, that's a auto DQ i hope to god wizards does something about this douche cheater
The real problem here is that Drew Levin should've called a judge. If he called a judge maybe alex gets banned for 6 months maybe he doesn't. it's likely that the judge would've given him a game loss or more. He doesn't like Alex and at the same time is trying to make himself more popular and make his name bigger. Drew Levin will always be a much bigger scumbag than Alex in my eyes.
@HarrisonGardler this doesnt make sense. if the person talking isnt drew levin (it isnt) than there is nothing he can do besides provide this as well as all other cheating proof to the DCI. which is exactly what hes done.
@ItsImBoltAction if he did that then this video wouldn't be on youtube. all the proof he has should be in the DCI's possession. not on youtube where he can use it to his advantage while also slandering someone he doesn't like. drew levin is still a scumbag
i think its an honest mistake, he even asked his opp right before if he could play another land, and there was someone filming it ,obv, it would be pretty ballsy to try tht on purpose
everybody is screaming how much of a cheater he is but this looks like it could've been a simple mistake. he could've been not thinking clearly. how do we know this was intentional? if this is the only footage of him "cheating" then im inclined to believe it was unintentional. everybody trolling/hating needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves "Have i ever unintentionally cheated?"
Even so, it was pointed out to him. After saying "Two explores (....) My turn three," you should be able to figure it out. Especially when your nose is 3 inches above the cards staring at them to make sure.
@HarrisonGardler There's no way he's stupid enough to not be able to put together that 1 land per turn for 3 turns + 2 lands from 2 Explores does not = 6 lands. He knew what he was doing and was just lucky his opponent was apparently in lalaland.
Drew, my question for you is why did you not immediately go to a Judge and show them this? As a certified Magic Judge, I can almost guarantee that this would have resulted in Alex getting DQ'd.
I think 1:06 is just a shortcut to quickly bottom cards. It's a bit too quick for him to actually get peek and peeking at the bottom of your deck has almost no effect.
However, yea, he straight up played 3 lands that turn. Shady.
If you pause the vid around 1:06, you can see him bottoming the cards from Preordain. He lifts his deck up and exposes the card at the bottom of his deck. I'm not sure if he was sneaking a peek this instance, but if that's what his deck handling habit looks like, he's making it easy for himself to cheat when he wants to.
He's certainly not going out of his way to not cheat, which is a habit of professional, respectable players.
Saying "I know for a fact..." and then backing it up with your reasoning and opinion do not strengthen your argument. If this isn't the only video, paste in some urls or at least point us to the other vids. I'm not defending Alex, just saying you aren't really making your case.
So turn 1 - land. Turn 2 - explore, land, land. Turn 3 - 2x explore, 3 lands. 6 Total.

I can't believe the player didn't call him on it and said "he's good." Is he afraid to call a judge or something??
dscherli 2 months ago
@dscherli - Last years format? This format was still live 2 and a half months ago bro.
iamever777 2 months ago
I don't like how SCG didn't mention the cheating at all, only very shortly by the commentators AFTER the guy gets his big-ass cheque in the bag. We got some hard proof here, I hope they fix this somehow even though it might already be too late.

So was this video ever shown to the SCG judges? Why was it not reported? Was this even a real game or was it a side game. It's obvious that Alex knew what he was doing. I want to know what the judges have to say about this video.

Blatant cheat right there

This is so blatant that it's not even funny. His opponent is too buried in his own hand to be watching the board.

@HarrisonGardler this video wasn't taken by Drew
Strakeflames 2 months ago
@Strakeflames drew levin is the one doing this shit. whether he took the video or not he went about it the wrong way. he is still a scumbag
HarrisonGardler 2 months ago
@HarrisonGardler this doesnt make sense. if the person talking isnt drew levin (it isnt) than there is nothing he can do besides provide this as well as all other cheating proof to the DCI. which is exactly what hes done.
ItsImBoltAction 2 months ago
@ItsImBoltAction if he did that then this video wouldn't be on youtube. all the proof he has should be in the DCI's possession. not on youtube where he can use it to his advantage while also slandering someone he doesn't like. drew levin is still a scumbag
HarrisonGardler 2 months ago
Jesus Christ, people make mistakes. His opponent should have called him on it, yeah. But he didn't.
RealGateGuardian 2 months ago
this cant be a surprise, he has been caught cheating multiple times already. Presideboard card, drawing extra cards, etc...
jmrainwa 2 months ago
i think its an honest mistake, he even asked his opp right before if he could play another land, and there was someone filming it ,obv, it would be pretty ballsy to try tht on purpose
TheColdestDedo 2 months ago
@TheColdestDedo So how do you explain him answering the "What turn is it?" question with "Two Explore?"
Funkwich 2 months ago
@TheColdestDedo Getting your opponent to agree to you cheating is a great way to cheat. Just saying.

He's an asshole for cheating, and you're an asshole for posting it on Youtube instead of getting him DQ'd.
NightfallGemini 2 months ago
everybody is screaming how much of a cheater he is but this looks like it could've been a simple mistake. he could've been not thinking clearly. how do we know this was intentional? if this is the only footage of him "cheating" then im inclined to believe it was unintentional. everybody trolling/hating needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves "Have i ever unintentionally cheated?"
HarrisonGardler 2 months ago
@HarrisonGardler

As a certified Magic Judge, I can almost guarantee that this would have resulted in Alex getting DQ'd.
xMAX1MILIANx 2 months ago
There is no way that Alex had six lands turn three off of two explores. This is ridiculous.
CrackClown 2 months ago
I think 1:06 is just a shortcut to quickly bottom cards. It's a bit too quick for him to actually get peek and peeking at the bottom of your deck has almost no effect.
However, yea, he straight up played 3 lands that turn. Shady.

these vids are made by haters. congrats, he might have looked at the bottom of his deck and he's confused on what turn it is. ok?
Roverlisk 2 months ago
If you pause the vid around 1:06, you can see him bottoming the cards from Preordain. He lifts his deck up and exposes the card at the bottom of his deck. I'm not sure if he was sneaking a peek this instance, but if that's what his deck handling habit looks like, he's making it easy for himself to cheat when he wants to.
He's certainly not going out of his way to not cheat, which is a habit of professional, respectable players.
neopato 2 months ago
Wow, the way he responds is so shady too.
"What turn is it?"
"Two explores." Not even answering the question.
"What turn is it? Turn 3?" Which it was.
"My... Turn 4." Which was a complete lie.
He should have 5 lands, and he knows it, he's just lucky his opponent didn't catch it, even with the spectator's huge hints.
IololoIoIoI 2 months ago 30
@IololoIoIoI the spectator/cameraman shouldn't have been dropping hints... he should have been calling a judge!

Saying "I know for a fact..." and then backing it up with your reasoning and opinion do not strengthen your argument. If this isn't the only video, paste in some urls or at least point us to the other vids. I'm not defending Alex, just saying you aren't really making your case.
