The problem with the whole "The Bible doesn't say that" is that anyone can interpret the Bible's words to mean whatever they want it to mean, including what it actually says. Therefore, someone can interpret "Suffer not a witch to live" to mean "kill witches" which gives that person all the authority he thinks he needs to kill anyone he deems to be a witch.
Even if there was evidence that god of the bible existed, He'd still need to answer for the shit he did in the bible if I were to consider taking him seriously.
If there was scientifically verifiable proof that a being that could be deemed a god exists, of course I would believe it. It still doesn't mean that I would take up religion and worship it though.
@xXDISASTERPIECE934Xx Exactly. This is why I ended up leaving Christianity. It seems like sycophantic worship out of pure fear, (no matter HOW much they say it's "love,") is not going to work in saving my soul anyway.
@BottleConcreteBlond lmao, the best part if one turns out to be right.. the majority of people will be wrong. most religious people would burn in hell, atheists would be a much smaller proportion.
That is interesting, I keep hearing people argue that God is "neccessary", or various other "spiritual" things (besides food, water and air) are "neccessary" and it does just seem like a b.s. argument. They never say why it it neccessary just that it is.
Do Jeff and Russell get that the WikiHow article is a satire? Because they don't seem to. They seem to think it's real, when it's clearly written by an atheist as a joke. Unless they're just playing along with the satire for fun, which is quite possible.
The first caller is one of the types which drives me nuts the most. He goes on about things can only be this or that. God always gets a free pass because if you didn't allow him to, he wouldn't be possible.
:-X i was the 666 like! Does that mean something? Oh no, rapture! lol... anyway. Great video, I love your way of handling the calls and having real discussions.
@rorstar83 personal testimony is not proof, you say it'd true does not make it true. So if proof of god is everywhere give a small example of verifiable evidence for the existence of a supernatural being such as the christian god of the bible, Thor or Zeus.
Nobody can account for logic other than to say that in order for reality to be real, it must behave a certain way, and this applies to god as well. Saying that anything exists, including god, is to say that the thing depends on certain preconditions to something existing. And, if god has a necessary, divine nature, then you are a naturalist like me. You believe that nature comes first.
17:50 something, it's the second law of thermodynamics. I can't help but wonder, does the author of the 'how to' article know about the other laws of thermodynamics? Or that the second law itself as it applies to non-closed systems? Namely, it doesn't apply? In a closed system where the law applies, there's no external power source, therefore entropy can only increase. This would cause a trend from order to chaos. But here on Earth, we do have more than one, chief among them is the sun.

When a theist brings up the question, I think it better to ask what happens to a cat's consciousness/thoughts when it dies. If they think cats go to heaven, then try to draw a line on what does and doesn't go to heaven and why. If they think HIV and anthrax goes to heaven, I'd say it's a pretty good indicator that you're wasting your time.

entropy and chaos are in fact creative forces because they decay the primordial order. We are the product of those degerenatice forces, like smashing a pane of glass and seeing all the different shapes that it makes.
isn't it "unjust" for an innocent person(Lord Jesus) to be punished instead of the criminals themselves(sinners)?How does that work someone commits a crime and you punish someone else who didn't commit a crime? Can anyone help me with this question just respond back thanks.
@MrEmeraldfusion It doesn't make much sense until you consider that christianity needs (among other elements) gilt to keep it going. The book The God Virus by Darrel W. Ray, Ed.D. explains this perfectly with a diagram. Anyway, you need to feel guilt for this 'innocent' person to keep in with the faith, just like you need to feel guilty for every thing you do, then you go to church or pray at home to temporarily 'relieve' that guilt.
@gaeaandproud Morality is relative but laws aren't. If you wan't to stone people to death then you have to deal with the law. Morality depends on values and people value different things. I don't know if you are advocating for Biblical morality but you will find that the morality found in any holy book to be incompatible with the laws and values found in any county especially the United States. The bible and the constitution can not be reconciled.
@adam3251 Well, actually, different countries have different laws so they're still relative to which country you're in, and no country is going to last forever so the laws put forth by any country aren't really immutable. Also, I was arguing against any absolute morality at all, he just tried to tie morality to finding truth, which lies in the domain of the logical absolutes.
I always love to hear about another thinly veiled attempt to convert atheists too Christianity. I currently find it impossible to believe. My atheism is not based on hating god, jesus, alah etc. My atheism is based on not believing in god, jesus, alah etc. The appeal to emotion, testimonials, contradictory bible verses and fact that faith is responsible for not only the good parts of it's belief, but the bad parts as well.
After watching Jeff Dee over the years, I'm convinced that no christian on this earth can stand against him in a debate and battle of wits. He's a beast. Not only passionate, but also articulate and knows exactly what questions to ask.
The logical absolutes are not transcendental, they are simply observed properties of things. "A is not B" is an observed property in the same way that "bowling balls are round" is.
I see no connection at all between Christian theists and Atheists as opposed to Muslim theists. Both Christians and Muslims believe in a diety. Atheists lack belief in any gods of any kind. I don't see how Islam is a less natural alliance than Christianity, both are theists. The Muslim world is more fundamentalist than the West at the moment but that has far more to do with secular political principle than Christianity as a belief system.
christians and atheists in the west share an entire culture. I see the only thing that really separates them is the belief in god. christianity has gone through a lot of change and is now accepting of a vast range of political beliefs, and is currently a secular religion. Islam has barely if at all changed since it began, it is a political and religious system. Islam is by definition a fundamentalist religion (muslims supposedly believe the quran to be the unchanged word of god)
christians and atheists political beliefs are often very different to those of muslims. for example: take a look at the Pew poll titled "muslims-around-the-world-divided-on-hamas-and-hezbollah". In it includes the questions such as whether they would support laws in their countries that included "stoning people who commit adultery; whippings and cutting off of hands for crimes like theft and robbery; and the death penalty for those who leave the Muslim religion". I don't think anyone would
expect the support for these laws to be anywhere near among atheists or christians as it is among muslims. for example: 82% in pakistan and egypt supported the stoning to death of adulterers.
@Anon12356: Atheism and theisms are views on gods not politics. Similar views in the West come from political ideology not faith. Christianity is more tolerant than Islam now, not always the case. It's not the belief system but individual willingness to tolerate that matters . Religion cannot be secular, as you put it, since they a mutually exclusive ideas. I object to any religious intrusion. Its about politics and rights, not which faith would be nicer , because I reject both.
I was talking more about the ideology rather than christians and muslims themselves. christianity got 30 000+ different denomations with their own interpretation. the muslims also got different interpretation of their religion. But you can find much more common ground between believers than between theists and atheists. Christians finds answers to their behaviour in the bible just as the muslims finds it in the quran.

What? Out of all the hosts, even Matt D., Jeff Dee is probably my favorite! Like, IDK...he just seems like more of a smart-ass (in a good way lol) and more...clever? Lol, I'm not rly sure how to put it...but Jeff's my favorite. Then Matt, then maybe...Russell, and Tracie, but can't I remember any of the others right now...
"That would be bad. I don't know why. Science fiction says so." Change the "Science fiction" to "The bible" and you've got the argument that virtually every christian caller tries to use.
@PseudoPoiesis Yes, in America. Most of us are raised in that environment and we just accept it. Our parents teach us everything and they seem to know everything when we are young, so when they tell us there is a God we believe it. When we start doubting, they and other adults, teachers, pastors threaten us with hell, give us guilt-trips and do their best to re-affirm those beliefs in any way they can. But if you stand your ground, eventually they all admit they no proof for their beliefs
The host is so right when he recommends Carl Sagan's "Demon Haunted World." That book was pivotal in helping me become an Atheist--but more importantly, I began to understand how the world truly works and was finally able to become completely without superstition.
lol I had an argument with a theist and after saying he would kill his children if god told him too, I said I was done talking to him and he called me ignorent! lmao that went in my book of top 5! That was funny! and sad... poor kids... :( I hope they are okay
@W1kk3dMango - He'd better hope he doesn't get schizoprenia any time soon. Or get Jeruselum Syndrome where people SWEAR they're possessed by the Jewish deity. Then again, at least he was honest. Many Christians deny that their god is their "Ultimate Moral Truth." They usually say "No.. god would NEVER SAY THAT" to avoid that point. Lol You were wise to ignore a crazy like that, btw. xD
@W1kk3dMango i also had an argument with a theist also at first he was nice and then after awhile he got frustrated with me and told me to BURN BURN BURN in hell, what a moron.
I'm an Atheist and I must say that I have evolved away from this show. It's a great show! But I've been listening to this show for about 2-3 years now. After a while, you get to a point where you've heard every argument and now its just kinda meaningless to even consider myself an Atheist. I'm just a person who doesn't believe in things without reasonable evidence, whether its God or a invisible unicorn. I guess that makes me a Aunicornist too? Thanks for this amazing EXPERIENCE!
@TheAndyLoraProgram Right on. And I kinda wish more atheists would grow into their atheism instead of around it like you described. Glad the atheism is gaining ground but it seems that it absorb people's identity once they've been freed from religion and theism. Trading one for the other basically. Know what I mean?
@ZombieX13 Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! I try not to let the label "atheist" overpower and define my entire life and who I am. Yeah, I'm an atheist but I'm also a million things. I don't believe in god. It's really not a big deal, and I don't think it takes that much thought.
Hey that one caller was right. Russell and Jeff are like good cop bad cop. :P

entropy and chaos are in fact creative forces because they decay the primordial order. We are the product of those degerenatice forces, like smashing a pane of glass and seeing all the different shapes that it makes.

Actually we're a product of a decrease in entropy.

isn't it "unjust" for an innocent person(Lord Jesus) to be punished instead of the criminals themselves(sinners)?How does that work someone commits a crime and you punish someone else who didn't commit a crime? Can anyone help me with this question just respond back thanks.
MrEmeraldfusion 6 months ago

The bible and the constitution can not be reconciled.
adam3251 6 months ago

The logical absolutes are not transcendental, they are simply observed properties of things. "A is not B" is an observed property in the same way that "bowling balls are round" is.

the alliance by some atheists with muslims is so dumb. atheists have so much more in common with christians and other non-muslims.
Anon12356 6 months ago
@Anon12356
I see no connection at all between Christian theists and Atheists as opposed to Muslim theists. Both Christians and Muslims believe in a diety. Atheists lack belief in any gods of any kind. I don't see how Islam is a less natural alliance than Christianity, both are theists. The Muslim world is more fundamentalist than the West at the moment but that has far more to do with secular political principle than Christianity as a belief system.
bcarr424 6 months ago
@bcarr424
christians and atheists in the west share an entire culture.
Anon12356 6 months ago
christians and atheists political beliefs are often very different to those of muslims. for example: take a look at the Pew poll titled "muslims-around-the-world-divided-on-hamas-and-hezbollah". In it includes the questions such as whether they would support laws in their countries that included "stoning people who commit adultery; whippings and cutting off of hands for crimes like theft and robbery; and the death penalty for those who leave the Muslim religion". I don't think anyone would
Anon12356 6 months ago
@Anon12356
expect the support for these laws to be anywhere near among atheists or christians as it is among muslims. for example: 82% in pakistan and egypt supported the stoning to death of adulterers.
Anon12356 6 months ago
@Anon12356: Atheism and theisms are views on gods not politics. Similar views in the West come from political ideology not faith. Christianity is more tolerant than Islam now, not always the case. It's not the belief system but individual willingness to tolerate that matters . Religion cannot be secular, as you put it, since they a mutually exclusive ideas. I object to any religious intrusion. Its about politics and rights, not which faith would be nicer , because I reject both.
bcarr424 6 months ago
@Anon12356
Nope, its the other way around. Islam and christianity has almost everything in common.. same satan, same angels and even the same god!
sensur1 6 months ago
@sensur1
christians cant even agree with themselves on god, so how can they agree with muslims?
Anon12356 6 months ago
@Anon12356

Lol You were wise to ignore a crazy like that, btw. xD

YourDarkAccomplice 6 months ago
@TheAndyLoraProgram Right on. And I kinda wish more atheists would grow into their atheism instead of around it like you described. Glad the atheism is gaining ground but it seems that it absorb people's identity once they've been freed from religion and theism. Trading one for the other basically. Know what I mean?
ZombieX13 6 months ago
@ZombieX13 Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! I try not to let the label "atheist" overpower and define my entire life and who I am. Yeah, I'm an atheist but I'm also a million things. I don't believe in god. It's really not a big deal, and I don't think it takes that much thought.
