My Grandad was there. He was in the Liverpool Police Band that played for the lads at the civic reception in the town hall. Got a couple of nice photo's off him with the Beatles before he passed away. He played the French horn and one of the photo's shows Ringo examining the French horn while John is playing with a trumpet. The other photo is the four of them surrounding Granddad and the rest of the Police band. Amazing that he got so close to them on that day with thousands of fans outside!!
@admanphoto One of the photo's is actually in a couple of Beatles books, If you google "The Beatles living in the eye of the hurricane" you should be able to see the photo down the page a bit. Grandad is on the bottom right hand corner of the pic looking at Ringo.
@admanphoto Ya, can you show the pictures on here? please? I remember when the Beatles came to Vancouver BC, Canada...i was too young to go and they only played 35 minutes and vamooosh, gone. sigh
You yeisel and joshaw are lucky to have these memories..mine is when mybrother got Pauls autograph in England back in '67, right at Pauls house by abby studios...and that was as close as I could get, except for being in Longhis restaraunt in Lahaina, Maui, where a time machine 20 years ago would have put me in the eatery with George Harrison...he apparently enjoyed buying tourist stuff from the vendors on Front Street! so close but lightyears away, aw shucks~!
Wow!! 3 yrs before I was born:) brought a huge lump to my throat seeing this..I know every cornice, piece of stucco on these lovely old buildings around Dale,Castle+Water Street..Oh man, homesick blues:((...my sis was up on the side of the balcony too aged just 2 yrs old.') Mum+dad's best friend was Malcolm Evans the Beatles tour manager..4 or so yrs later he was shot by cops in New York..wonder what my sis remembers now about standing and watching?..lol lovely:) best wishes Sophie
We stood in Allerton Rd across from the old round-about at Church Rd and Heatherfield Rd. We emigrated to Australia a year later and were asked all the time if we knew the Beatles. The scouse accents have long disappeared but I still fondly remember that day. Even old Mrs Nichols from across the road was there and she must have been in her 80's
I am in this crowd.I was sixteen at the time.My dad hated me having any thing to do with THE BEATLES.He thought they were long haired layabouts and switched the TV off every time they came on.Imagine my horror when the late night news came on and there was a full close up of me screaming "JOHN I LOVE YOU."I am 2.44 minutes into the video. The girl with blonde hair with her arms wrapped around a policeman and "EDNA EVERIDGE" glasses on! ! Contact lenses and later, laser treatment changed that
No were still alive. Jane, Carole, Fran and I bunked off school for the day to go and see them. Seems like yesterday. Three years, maybe four years ago we were interviewed by local radio and taken on the balcony where The Beatles had stood. We had our pictures taken and had a lovely time recalling those special moments.
There is a real charm to this footage. The Beatles return as "conquering heroes" to their home town where, a year or so before, they could probably have walked the streets with few people knowing who they were. Looking at it now, nearly 40 years later, it's reminiscent of footage of Churchill on VE day! Extraordinary days, wonderful memories. Things we said today indeed.
I was an 11 year old in that crowd, having gone with my older sister. My grandmother was horrified that our parents allowed us to go. But it was the only time we ever saw the Beatles, and we arrived home safely. What a day out it was. Thank you Mum and Dad!
i wissh i could've seen them come home...</3

now thats a return flight to home. I still wish Space Oddity by David Bowie was a Beatles song. It would so fit this repertoire.
