  • and you dont pinch the valley with the head of the nail you nail it down and cover with sealant pinning it will allow strong finds to rip it off the roof this is prolly why america turns into a garbage pit after a hurricane or strong storm... GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN!

  • this video is shit open cut valleys are perfectly fine and better they dont increase rot or mold or moss ice and water amd snow can just run down so much easier if done correctly wont ever leak thats why you over lap everything fomr bottom to top and leave atleast 6-12 iches to go over top

  • GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • give those poor guys nail guns

  • we use the closed cut method very rarely does a customer request open valley, open valleys appear nice but now your exposing it to all elements it's best to have the closed cut method it looks professional and protects alot better

  • great video thumbs up

  • I used the closed cut method on my roof and since the video didn't show them put metal valley roll in before the Weather Guard rolls I did the same. Do you think my valleys will hold up over 20 years or should I have put metal valley rolls in before?

  • Great advice, Thanks!

  • lol u all act like its rocket science roofing is a roofing dooggg

  • Also, In all fashions, wouldn't it be preferrable that the shingle join at the valley point and be cut, rather than nailed and left at the end tab (referring to the cambridge installation at the end) where I see the underlying diagonal shingle is exposed and unappealing?

  • If you are putting nails on the EDGE of the valley metal instead of directly on it and into the roof, then wouldn't that suggest room for movement, and that the sealing caulk you are applying to the edge might peel, making it nearly impossible to find leaks when a future roofer comes to investigate the leak, if the warranty has expired, or the roofing company is simply a dud?

  • I bet this guy couldn't have did this video with his hands in his pockets

  • hourly guys?

  • thanks man

  • How often does GAF ELK manufacturer deliver to colorado buildings suppliers?

  • gay as fuck roofing

  • cut off his hands and he could'nt say a word

  • Great instructional video!

  • This is a great video if you would like to see more check out ccrandd.ca

  • This is a great video

  • There is no waterproof shingle method. All shingle systems are design to shed water from one layer to the next using gravity. There is no such thing as a waterproof shingle roofing system. This is why using a membrane under them is critical. Before the fan boys start, even the felt is not waterproof. It is a minor guard against leaks. In the real world, by the time the shingles are applied the felt has too many holes in in to be waterproof. It all acts as a system and usually does not leak

  • @ArtisanTony What i would like to know is even if what are you saying is true...the way they install the shingle its the correct one? 1st 2nd 3 rd? wich one works better...the thing is that im from costa rica and im about to install shingle in my house...so i want to make sure ill do it right any comment or help will be more than welcome...

  • @jinoCR I like the woven valley system. Just make sure you use a membrane underneath that is at least 36" wide centered on the valley.

  • @ArtisanTony thanks for you help Tony, God bless you

  • @jinoCR Your welcome and God speed :) The only other thing I would say is that if you are using the thicker laminated shingles (we call them dimensional shingles) I would use the Closed Cut Valley due to the thickness of the shingles. The Woven Valley works best with the thinner 3 tabs shingles.

  • look this vid : "THE REAL ROOFER "

    click on the first vid

    thats is cool

  • happening and saluting

  • my valleys are installed with the following... bottom layer ice guard.... half strip of 90lb all the way up.... followed by full strip of 90lb... followed by closed cut roofing method.... but i use certainteed shingles way better than GAF

  • shingles do not waterproof the roof, the papper does

  • look this vid : "THE REAL ROOFER "

    click on the first vid

    thats quality

  • the sol bomber has more to say then my ass. Ignore this guy he is the hack and a yack

  • lionlady nailed it on that one - double coverage woven is the best !! what idiot takes a knife to a valley ??? apparently GAF know's jack crap Owens Corning is the best shingle hands down with the best warrenty

  • Woven is the best valley especially with Laminant shingles - creates double layer valley with the shingles - closed cut = single layer of shingles in the valley.

  • @Lionlady01 stay of your girl friends channel

  • i believe he needs to take up sign language instead of roofing or go read some more brochure

  • Information very valuable for home owners.

  • Woven and closed valleys look like they re 20 years own in 5. Open valleys are the way to go with starter shingles up each side. Tar just makes a mess, and if you use too much it will get hot and melt down your valley which may leave raised nail heads for the water to find and make leak. Tapering the valley ( 2 inches a side top, for on bottom) make it look better as well.

  • he must of read somewhere how to talk with his hands

  • Hm... Well my friend just went to TILE-MOLDS . com and he got the best service! So maybe you should try their services too?

    Good luck!

  • the man likes his hand signals..doesnt he?

  • Valleys ain't none for us...we never ever have a complaint in our company...had one with a chimney but the house slope was so high...

  • Open valleys are the only way to go. Woven and closed valleys can keep water out if done properly. However, the problem with them is water rushes from side of the valley to the other. Water gets trapped in between the plies of shingles. When water evaporates it expands 270 times as it changes to a gas. The pressure causes the shingles in the valley to blister. This means the valley shingles will die out much faster than the rest of the roof.

  • o im sorry i thought you were talking about 6000 for the whole house not for the roof

  • Comment removed

  • @marshamcc01 I'll stand corrected assuming what you say is right. I had no Idea water molecules expanded so much. Hopefully people know better than to get chemistry advise from a roofer! You are helping me make my point though, all the more reason to use open valleys!

  • @smokinshield Hehe, you're welcome. Water's great expansion is one reason steam boilers work so well. I have troublesome "California" valleys on my house, which is how I ended up on this page :)

  • jus use lead its so much easier

  • @adamyiddo Thanks for this! I was looking at doing a copper valley but now I am going to go with lead - never considered it before!

  • I put rooftop wind turbine kits onto a couple of roofs with their shingles and have never had any issues with their stuff.

  • this roofing video doesnt know what the fuck they doing

  • all this Full paper/ and shyt is Bullshyt man, They just say you HAVE TO full paper just so they can make their money and sell their Product haha, Home owners pay an Extra 500$ for the BS

  • have you ever even ripped off an old roof? if you have you would sumyimes come across water streaks on the paper that means it saved the roof decking or leaks.

  • The average house costs $6000 in my city. What's another $500 to protect your investment. I refuse to roof someone's house unless I'm installing full underlay. When you have a warranty that covers interior damage damn right I'm wrapping that roof first!

  • Well we all know Shingles that say they last 25 Years only last 15 Years, But all in all Ful Paper is Bullshyt, GAF are cracksmokers, all they wanna see is MONEY. but who doesnt wanna see money ahha, Designer Shingles are the way to go tho, on 4/12 Slopes and UP

  • @smokinshield

6000 jesus where do you live

  • Calgary Canada. I guess I should clarify Canadian dollars. The difference would be around $400 though, so same ball park. And that's average, I sell many 3 and $4000 roofs too. On the other hand I'll sell several asphalt roofs in the 15 to $20000 range in a year. So $6000 is only average.

  • If your shingles are so good, why do I need to waterproof the deck BEFORE I install them?

  • Well i am not a pro roofer but if its a valley and you don't place valley metal or felt paper in the valley your asking for a leak.I can tell you from our house before it was reroofed,,.

  • @roofbutcher sometimes when there is a lot of ice on the roof (when snow melts during the the day during the night it freezes, ok ) sometimes it can back up, so it is important to put so called "ice-shield " in the areas close to the gutters etc. where ice can go under ..

  • @roofbutcher Regardless of how good the shingles are, ice can still build up, the water has nowhere to go, so it goes back up under the shingles, freezes, melts again until the water reaches the decking, where it can leak into the house and/or cause the decking to rot. Since you even posted that comment, I gotta say you've got a fitting name, with smarts like that I bet you've butchered many a roof.

  • @roofbutcher Because they are the weak area in your roof, and they see ALOT more water.
