este carolo toca para los mediocres que les cabe la tecnica y no la musica... no tiene ningun sentido lo que toca, jamas lo escuche tocando alguna frase que vaya a algun lugar ...
I dunno. I think he's kind of a lazy drummer to be honest. Take that double bass away and goodbye quadruplets...that's most of his speed. No doubt, a really creative guy though. But there's tonnes of guys who could outplay him
@lydianflatseven That's the point of his style though. He doesn't focus on speed, he focuses on creativity. And what he is capable of is certainly more than enough for Porcupine Tree and King Crimson to make him their drummer.
@diamus3 Whoa he played for crimson? He just went up 3 points in my book haha. And yeah i agree with ya about that. But i just get kinda annoyed when some guys overuse double bass. Listening to Portnoy drives me nuts with it.
@Jaythedrummerman He's definitely really good as far as drumming in a band goes...that's for sure. But there are a tonne of guys who i personally find much more interesting. try vinnie coliauta, dennis chambers, chris coleman, dave weckl, kiko freidas, bruford, bozzio, wackerman, simon phillips, Gad, jojo mayer....the list keeps goin' man...manu katche, Jack Dejhonette, Steve Smith, Antonio Sanchez etc... Ask me who i'd rather listen to and 10/10 times i'd pick any of these guys over Harrison.
@lydianflatseven and i would listen to Danny Carey, Gavin himself, Tomas Haake over any of these guys...see what i did? They are all excellent drummers and should not be compared. No one is really "better" or "worse" at their level anymore. It's not like we are comparing these elite musicians to trash like Travis Barker.
@toolfan92 using words like trash (even though i don't particularly like travis barkers work thus far), pretty much discredits everything you said before it. I don't think he's trash. In fact he's great at what he does and so is Harrison. I also doubt that you checked out the drummers i listed. I like drummers who bring character into their drumming...and that isn't something i hear in gavin's playing. With the guys i listed, theres mannerisms, idiosyncrasies and personality in their music.
@lydianflatseven you're right, trash is too harsh a word. anyway my whole statement was to prove a point. its about preference at the elite level. i have listened to (and love) Vinne, Dave, Beauford, Jojo and many others, like Copeland, Ringo, Keith Moon, Zak Starkey, Jason Freese, Dominic Howard, Goerge Kollias...the list goes on. All these are exemplary drummers, and they do their craft very well. Yet Gavin is my favourite. I just love the way he plays. Its biased, but all opinions are.
@lydianflatseven exactly! anyway i tend to judge drummers by what they do in their bands and/or with bands. never as a soloist. Maybe cause, im not a drummer and i front/play lead in several bands, my demands for a drummer who keeps things nice and tasty in a band setting increases.
Which makes me wanna say, Travis is good with what he does with Blink 182, but honestly, his fans are over the top at times. makes me LOL HAHAHA
@lydianflatseven Are you really judging all of his playing just by this video? If you notice, the quadruplets are the only thing that he even uses that double bass pedal for. The majority of his licks are played with a single bass pedal. Also, there aren't many drummers at all that could outplay Gavin in the long run. He's got mad groove, and some sick licks, with a tremendous amount of control.
Was a awesome performance by PT last night in Cleveland, Just blows me away and alot of other people that Coheed and Cambria was the main show, they came on stage and about 1/4 of the people left....would have been great just to let PT play on thru the night.......Thanks for the awesome show Guys.....PT Rocks !!!!!!!!
now its like mike portnoy is the nickelback of drumming
