This video makes me wonder how applicable this is to the real world. Even when Seagal is being "attacked" by many opponents at once, it looks very choreographed, like they're patiently waiting for their turn. Aikido isn´t made for cage fights or stuff like that. But the Technics do work very good(i study Yoshinkan aikido) .For people who just watch it, its very hard to see. You gotta feel it :-).If you want to fight in real mma fight u can use Aikido Technics but you also have to be very well trained and you have to be strong(and experience in kickboxing etc...) i also have to say that seagals students really fall easily. and Judo rocks :-)

@marbito11 I think if you went into a fight relying purely on Aikido then you would be in for a hard time, however if you combine Aikdo with anything else it's a great style. Same for anything though I suppose hence all this MMA combing things to come up with something new and possibly improved. It's why Strikers like Silva learn BJJ or grapplers like BJ Pen learning how to box. I think save for the diverting of movements, most of Aikdo isn't suited to sports.

It has nothing to do with the size issue for me. For me it is the weakness of the attack and the compliance of the attackers. Uke is supposed to give only a certain level of resistance to Tori, but in order for me to be impressed, I'd have to see more stress placed on Tori.
Having said that, I think Seagal is a good martial artist, and he is good at Aikido. But these kinds of demonstrations leave me cold.

They fall like that because it's a demonstration. If they didn't throw themselves, instead trying to stay in place, the strikes would break their bones.

1) You dont punch in slow motion
2) You dont just run in there with your hand in the air
3) Let a aikido guy fight in a mma match and he would get his as kicked just like the Kiai master.

@marbito11 lol it does make it look kinda fake but believe me there is a reason they fall down so easy, Aikdo works mostly against the joints if you resist you don't fall down you end up with a broke wrist. Was doing a rendori like this a couple months ago and my mate messed his elbow up pretty bad, didn't brake it but he still can't move it properly.

@marbito11 I think if you went into a fight relying purely on Aikido then you would be in for a hard time, however if you combine Aikdo with anything else it's a great style. Same for anything though I suppose hence all this MMA combing things to come up with something new and possibly improved. It's why Strikers like Silva learn BJJ or grapplers like BJ Pen learning how to box. I think save for the diverting of movements, most of Aikdo isn't suited to sports.

@marbito11 yes its called a "demonstration" for a reason, you're stupid if you think seagal couldnt do this in a real fight, i saw seagal training with anderson silva an MMA fighter, well he was giving the fighter some tips, Seagal asked him to throw a fast punch to Seagals face, Seagal blocked it, put a wrist lock on and the fighter went down like nothing, clearly in pain, Seagal made it look effortless, he blocked his fast punch as well, so anyone who doubts Aikido or Seagal, jokes on you.

I can ensure you that if seagal or any other profesional did this on someone that didnt practise aikido they would probably hurt themself. those techniques work in real life if you can do them but they look silly if they are performed like this.

It has nothing to do with the size issue for me. For me it is the weakness of the attack and the compliance of the attackers. Uke is supposed to give only a certain level of resistance to Tori, but in order for me to be impressed, I'd have to see more stress placed on Tori.
Having said that, I think Seagal is a good martial artist, and he is good at Aikido. But these kinds of demonstrations leave me cold.
