I haven't watched this video since it's 2 years old but when I string skip I either use hammer ons for the bottom or top string and pick the opposite , however I also do just legato and just picking too, it's always good to practice it every way possible.
Thanks, I've been playing for almost 6 years, but I didn't start working on technique until about my 3rd year of playing. When it comes to developing speed I look at everything as basic as I can. For ex. if I want to improve my speed on a really long run, I'll take it and split it into a few smaller sections to practice with the metronome and bring up to speed, then I'll combine them into that run I wanted to get down and I'll work on that with the metronome.
I've only been playing about 18 months, and only discovered the method you describe about a month ago. I'm going back and relearning everything with the metronome, and I've improved 100% in just the past month. I don't practice at all without a metronome now. Great advice. Thx.

are you using hammer-ons and pull-offs? it sounds like ur picking every note but surely that would make it harder to play quick?

for minor, why not just roll index finger on the 12th fret for G, B, and E. That's the way I do it...to me seems alot easier
