i am confused between hf m41 and hf s30. i really like the picture quality from ur video, but they say for those who likes editing better choose hf m41. i saw from other review that hf s30 is making clunky sound when u shake them, like sumthin is loose there. is it right?
@nuniksify The m41 and s30 are both great cameras. I like the s30 better. As far as editing they both use .mts files. The only difference is the xd/sc cards. The clunky sound is the orbiting lens, when the camera is not turned on there is a slight sound when the camera is shaken. The camera uses magnets to stabilize the lens. Hope this helped..
i was wondering if there was anyway you can make timelapses with this. Is there a computer program you can use that lets you take pictures at a set interval or something?
@TeamTryHardBmx Not with corel x3 but the new corelx4 software does let you.. You may also like sony vegas. You van download them for free for 30 days and try them out.
pretty nice and great camera movements! Of course a more film look would be 24p at 1/48th and you will get better results when exporting to DVD and BlueRay since DVD/BlueRay do not support 30p formats. Becomes obvious in static shots of buildings etc.
Awesome man, I am getting this for my birthday next year, would you recommend this or the Vixia HF S200 for train filming, the only reason I ask is because some cameras work good with fast moving objects and others do not.
@WhiskeyCentral Hey WC.. Thanks for watching..I would go with the s200 and save some money.. They are basically the same camera the only big difference is the evf and the name.. With the extra money get a wide angle lens.. "raynox hd-7000 $ 170" and an extra battery ..you will need it. Check out basicbill1 channel. He has an amazing train shots and a wide variety of videos... Looking forward to seeing your work.. Hope this helps
@JJBfilm Hey, thank you for the information. Actually I have seen Basicbill1 and his work plenty of times and he is the reason I am actually interested in the camera because from what I see his work is fantastic with his S200. And no filming will be coming anytime soon until either Christmas or until I finally can find work and save some cash.
@AleenaBaby12 Thanks Aleena. It is a nice camera. If you will be using it for your makeup videos I would suggest to go with the s200 less expensive and same quality. With the money you save you may want to get a wide angle lens. Just remember this little camera loves lots of light...
@snowbikeboondocker Side by side not much...The sensor is a big difference better low light, 8 blade iris better dof. But the biggest difference is the price. I would recommend the hf s200 for the same quality but less expensive then the s30 and the g10.

@TheJuniordancer Thanks JD..No worries..For daytime shooting you can put the camera in auto mode and it does a great job. If you want to tweak it play with the white balance. Also go into image effects setting put the camera in vivid mode or manual mode add +1 to everything except brightness. For Night shots make sure the camera auto shutter is off. Play with the AGC limit (aka gain) lower it down to reduce any noise. Lower the contrast, you can always add in editing. Anytime, hope this helps
@weeq326 This camera is a great camcorder...Strong buy.. If you want to save a few dollars go with the hf s200. It has no internal memory ..but you can pick up a 16GB/ class 10 card for cheap and video looks exactly the same, even in low light... You can adjust external mic sound level....
@oliviaskull Hey Olivia.. Good question..Yes and No. I just added a DSLR vs Camcorder comparison to this videos description. Check it out. I hope it helps....
How well does this camera work for voices? Like if I'm filming a movie, how well do the voices sound? And it has a place you can attach another mike to it right?
Thanks a lot, I`ll try it. Also on your videos the gradual focusing/blurring looks very nice. Did you do it on Manual mode? Using touch screen or dial button? I found it works as well in auto mode when you touch different objects. But I imagine it`s hard to do outdoors, cause you can`t see lcd screen much...
Anyone figured out how to upload videos from inserted SD card? My Vixia came with Video Browser software, that only sees videos from the hard drive. Once it`s on SD card, i can`t find a program on computer to see those AVCHD files.
@dimkish1 You will have to covert the .MTS file "Aka-AVCHD" to view on the computer.. If needed, download this free software.. Google Format Factory. Works great with no grim advertisements user friendly..Hope this helped..
@heehee777 Check out the HF S200 same quality camera as the S30 but less expensive. I shot this w/ the S30 and compared the same shots w/ S200 looked exactly the same and I mean exactly the same. Video cards are cheap 16GB class 10 for $30... I also used a UV lens $8 and a tripod..Settings are: Manual shutter 1/60th sec. Manual exposure, white balance 30p @ 24Mbps.1080p converted to 1080p.@ H.264/Mpeg4./ 10Mbps. Contrast -1. I hope this Helps...anytime JJB
@richardwouter Hay Rich...I will be posting more vids with the slider. I only had about 20 mins. this day to shot. It works well and a definite buy....You wont regret it.. I
@Thiskidswrecks The only difference between the 2 is the SDXC memory cards, view finder, and $500.
No great change in the camera...It seems Canon focused more on the M4 series then hfs line...The hf g10 is where they put there r&d. I just wish it had changeable lenses like sony nex vg10.. I would stick with the hf s200 & take a little vacation with the extra $500...and get some great video...lol

Cool Software, thanks. The only thing, the highest settings are 1280 x 720 for converting, which is not full HD, if you want to burn Bluray disc.
I also found out that Pinnacle Ultimate Studio sees and edits AVCHD files easily.
