We buy it direct from the factory when it comes in. There is regular whale meat and then whale "beef" which is more tender and juicy. I only buy the "beef".
My family are whalers, so we get it pretty cheap, or free.
But whale has to be fresh.
In norway, we get whale from the same day. I do not know about Japan.
In Japan only goverment ships can whale becuase it is under IWC resurch program. The ship go as far as to Antarctic with a factory boat where it gets frozen. Coastal whaling is prohibited by stupid countries.
I am very sorry that you can only get frozen whale meat. Here in norway we buy it fresh from the factory when the boat comes in, which is most days per week.
I have eaten frozen whale beef, but it is not the same. It is not juicy and tender. It is still ok, but not the same as ultra fresh whale beef from the factory.
Take a trip to norway and buy some, it is very cheap and easy to buy.
It actually really depends on what part you eat. I'm Japanese and we eat every part of Whale's meat. Tail meat is really soft and fatty, but the limb meat is chewy at least the limb that I had.

I doubt the whalers are deriving pleasure from causing pain to whales. most of the whale meat sold in japan is actually dolphin meat anyways. this is the first time in ages that whale populations have actually risen. the people catching and killing the whales are trying to make money for their family. if you want to go for animal rights you should look at what is being done to farm animals in the united states and most industrial nations.

Whale has to be fresh !!! Ultra fresh.
It is a little different to beef, but much the same. I love it.
There is nothing like a fresh whale steak with chips, salad and a cold beer.
Whale SHOULD NOT be chewy !! It is not fresh then.
Whale is so soft and tender when it is fresh. Also, that is whale "beef". Not all parts are soft and juicy.

I have never had chewy whale.
We buy it direct from the factory when it comes in. There is regular whale meat and then whale "beef" which is more tender and juicy. I only buy the "beef".
My family are whalers, so we get it pretty cheap, or free.
But whale has to be fresh.
In norway, we get whale from the same day. I do not know about Japan.

In Japan only goverment ships can whale becuase it is under IWC resurch program. The ship go as far as to Antarctic with a factory boat where it gets frozen. Coastal whaling is prohibited by stupid countries.

I am very sorry that you can only get frozen whale meat. Here in norway we buy it fresh from the factory when the boat comes in, which is most days per week.
I have eaten frozen whale beef, but it is not the same. It is not juicy and tender. It is still ok, but not the same as ultra fresh whale beef from the factory.
Take a trip to norway and buy some, it is very cheap and easy to buy.

It actually really depends on what part you eat. I'm Japanese and we eat every part of Whale's meat. Tail meat is really soft and fatty, but the limb meat is chewy at least the limb that I had.

gun88. populations?? beef, sheep, chicken, tuna, and many other species = billions. minke whales = 1 million. why are there very few whales in japanese or asian waters? why do they need to hunt in an agreed sanctuary? only 4 whales needed for the research papers that were presented but 679 taken, more than 1/3 pregnant.
we can produce many species for consumption that are plentiful but NO we need to eat exotic and rare species for excitement. good on ya.

The Japanese have been eating whales 800 before your country even existed (in terms of white populus), its not an "exotic" dish, its a cultural norm for the japanese. If an animal population is sustainable then why can humans not eat them? Do we make judgements on what animals we can and cant eat just because white dairy farmers 300 years ago said it was so? it is common knowledge that Japan does not regulate it's fishing industry. It is common knowledge that Australia does. japan needs to reform it, I refer to the whale culling in Iceland and the faroe islands. Supporting hunting deer does not mean you want to force them to extinction. I have had whale in Iceland and seal meat. I liked seal and whale was a little wierd but alright. I enjoyed it, I would like my children and grandchildren the opportunity to try it. It's about conservation.

Japanese don't eat whale regularly. Its a delicasy rarely eaten. Its eaten more by tourists to show off to friends back home. Japanese kill whales for "scientific research" because whales eat enough fish to hurt the Japanese fishing Market. Japan is a population nearly the size of the U.S. in a area the size of Montana. No land to graze beef like the U.S. Of course they're gonna kill intelligent whales from eating all the fish in their nets. What else are they going to eat for protein?

It's a pretext to kill them at will. Most whales are endangered and/or decimated to a point where their reproductive rate is extremely slow (given their extremely slow gestation period). Japan does not have a population equal to the U.S. It has 130 million people, whereas the U.S. has 303 million people. Furthermore, Japan is one of the most prosperous nations, actually exporting beef and fish (not the other way around). THEY DO NOT NEED TO HUNT WHALES FOR "PROTEIN." You just lost the debate.
