  • HHHEEEEYYYYY!!! So, is that Joe "Cas-tig-lee-own" that's calling the game with Johnny Most? If not who is it? I can't remember who this is?

  • Johnny Most and Gus Johnson both commentating together would be epic.

  • STONE. COLD. KILLA

    lols

  • 1:17 - 1:22: Wow, is that a video monitor above the scoreboard? If so, the Capital Centre was technologically way ahead of its time.

  • @sean2015 Yes, it was. And yes, the Cap Centre, as it was called, was on the cutting edge of sports arena technology. It opened in Dec. 1973 or so, and Frank Sinatra was one of the (if not THE) very first shows. But even though the seats were more comfy and the views were unobstructed, it couldn't hold a candle to the old Boston Garden for generating basketball excitement. Of course, the Celtic fans had a lot to do with that, too. Celtic fans are awesome. As were the Celts.

  • @VrgniaMailman The old Boston Garden was tiny (it was built in the 1920s and was originally intended primarily for boxing matches) so the noise levels were amplified by the compactness of the arena. Plus the place had no air-conditioning and even the heating in winter was iffy. It gave the Celtics a tremendous home-court advantage and that is why to this day, they are the only team to achieve a regular season home record of 40-1 (that coming during the 1985-86 season).

  • @sean2015 All of what you said factually about the Boston Garden was true, but the prime reason the Celtics ran off a 40-1 record at home in 1985-86 was because of the team and the fans, not the building!! Yes, having that unique building helped them, but not all that much. By the way, Sean, I will send you a trivia question to your youtube inbox.

  • @VrgniaMailman lol fair enough, I'll be looking forward to that trivia question

  • this is back when u would put on the tv turn off the sound and put on Johnny Most

  • EVERYBODY WANG CHUNG TONIGHT

    '

  • awesome video! i can't believe this exists after all these years!

  • LOVE CELTICS, LOVE BIRD, LOVE JOHNNY MOST BUT LOOK AT BIRDS FOOT AS HE HITS THE LAST SHOT, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 3RD OVERTIME MAYBE MORE WHO KNOWS

  • @C10WOODY why? they were down 1, he hit a 2-pointer to win by 1? who if they'd given him 3 it'd have been a Celtics win by 2... what difference does it make?

  • @C10WOODY I was at this game!! Yes, it was called correctly as a 2-point shot, but as John19182004 commented, the Celts were down only one, so they won by one. But the shot had to go in, or the Celts would have lost. The entire crowd, fans of each team, left the Capital Centre in awe that night. Bird hit about 4 tough bombs late in regulation, late in the first OT, then the game winner to win it. Another thing that was fabulous was that I had taped the game, and the Bullets announcers,

  • @C10WOODY especially Home Team Sports play-by-play announcer Mel Proctor (who was a good guy, by the way), was/were absolutely morose a few seconds after the game was over. Mel was so sure that the Bullets were going to win .... it was fabulous for this Celtics fan, although it is great to hear Johnny Most go apeshit as usual in this version!!! Also, there was one elderly Bullets fan waving his cane around in anticipation of the Wash. victory, but #33 spoiled his party!! Funny!

  • The Big O, Glen Ordway also on color alongside Johnny Most. The Celtics have been lucky to have good radio men like Most and now Sean Grande on WEEI.

  • @SoftBank47 Glenn Ordway - but Johnny, that's not what I said.

I think the Celtics can win this game. On the other hand, I think the Bullets have real firepower.

    Flippety floppity. ;)

  • @SoftBank47 One of Johnny Most's most memorable calls for a regular season game occurred some time during the 1972 or '73 season. Celts were down 1, there was no 3-point rule, and had been outplayed at Boston. But John Havlicek hit a long shot at the buzzer to win it. Bob Ryan was the beat reporter covering the Celtics for the Boston Globe newspaper, and after describing the game, he closed his article with, "They had to scrape Johnny Most off the ceiling." LOL

  • Look at the reactions from the Bullets as the ball sinks....

How can you not love Larry Bird?

  • He stops..he pops.....bang!

  • Man... this is an YouTube's jewelry... added to favorites!!!

  • Its he fiddles and diddles... The best!

  • I remember listening to Johnny most and Glen Ordway (spelling) on the radio sometime in the 80's when boston was down 25 to the knicks in the 3rd quarter and came back to win it. Awesome

  • lol... he dribbles. he dibbles..

  • what an ending...LOL>>is that news anchors name at th eend really joe shortsleeve?? LOL...classic!

  • And so was Larry Bird, he was the man too, lol.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Johnny Most was the man!

  • Larry had 47 points that game.

  • as usual

  • Great stuff! Hey, would u happen to have any Johnny Most audio from the '76 game?

  • 6:48 malone took 5 steps

  • Comment removed

  • the game looked slow motion back then

  • This is so great. Fiddling and didilling. Johnny was the greatest.

  • I may put up the whole game in a few weeks or so.

  • Forgot how sick Jeff Malone was....

  • Thank you for posting this! Miss that Johnny Most.

  • The best game ever!! AND the best announcer of all time. Turn down the volume on the tv and PUT JOHNNY MOST ON THE RADIO!!! Wish we could have our #1 Celtics fan back. Those were the days. I MISS YOU JOHNNY MOST!!

  • Yeah that was THE way to watch the Celtics back in the day! I LOVED Johnny's unbiased calling of the games...LOL.

  • LOL! And he had all of us agreeing with his, "I can't BELIEVE it! They called a foul!" He added so much passion. I got nuthin' but love for 'im . He was the MOST! :O)

  • best catch and shoot player of all time

  • Is that Big O? Sounds like um...

  • wow i didnt know ordway did celts games back then

  • It's great that stayed with the game while channel 7 stayed with the game.

Was this RKO or HDH(aka EEI)?

  • wrko i believe

  • Ordway as in the Big Show..?

  • Yeah, he became Most's sidekick in the last few years.

  • more than the last few years i think he was there 81-90 and then was took over johnnys spot until 94 or 95.

  • One of the best regular season games in the Bird era. What this video didn't show was Bird's 3 pointer at the buzzer to just send the game to OT. Yes, Bird had not one, but TWO huge buzzer beaters in this game.

  • Did else anyone notice that it looks like Malone stepped out of bounds on the play that gave Washington the lead? If you watch the replay it certainly looks like he did.

  • yup...it certainly looks like he did. He got away with one there...Like it mattered anyway with Bird on the floor :) !

  • I never looked at that - but on that second replay it does appear that he did step on the line. No worry - Bird killed them!

  • Who is the color commentator on this audio?

    Good video.

  • The legendary "Voice of the Celtics", Johnny Most and sidekick Glen Ordway called this game.

  • THE LEGEND... johny most

  • @ixcuincle THAT WAS NONE OTHER THAN THE BIG O Glenn Ordway!

  • The Celts would have won championship 17, 18,19,20 with Len Bias. But everything in History has happened for the Celtics in 2008 to win it all.

  • Why the hell was Acres on the floor?!?!

  • The Chief had fouled out prior to this point in the game.

  • Thanks!
