This was the first song from them I heard off a friend's ipod. I went to look for some more of this awesome instrumental music to find their songs mainly have vocals :(
can anyone recommend some progressive bluegrass like this that's strictly instrumental?
@Machiavelli70 u dont need 2 have a a bow to play an upright bass. if u were playing a cello and were playin classical type music, yes, then u wud use a bow. but 4 bluegrass, country erc u dont use a freaking bow. thats retarded. they all did great.
@cuntrychick94 If you listen to the music, it's a bowed part. It makes me doubt Trujillo actually played the bass for the song. And bluegrass quite often uses the bow--listen to anything Bluegrass by Edgar Meyer.
Trujillo's an alright bassist, he just looks painfully out of place in this video.
@Machiavelli70 yeah i agree except i dont like trujillo it seems weird to me that he is here he is a metal bass player it looks like he has never touched a double bass before in the video
@addyr100 not true... Trujillo is a master of bass - he has played punk, metal, funk, and now bluegrass. I remember him in Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Groove, Ozzy... then Metallica. This guy has been around FOREVER - but now he has finally hit his gravy ticket with Metallica.
And... the intro on the bass is done with a bow there is no Cello in this song.
Yes, It is the Bass Guitarist from Metallica. Robert plays a variety of different types of Music. He plays well in all. :-) My cousin is very talented.
@moribeone they say that alot of times when they are sitting around in frisco recording or whatever, and they cant find rob, they head to the frisco symphony cuz he likes to sit in and play with them.. a second S&M album with robert would be insane
@IAmJimmothy you know they say he had a hard time holding back during the shooting of that, that he just wanted to push it farther and keep up with him... the song wouldve turned out really different had he been the one to write the bass, a bass solo on the middle wouldve been a cool addition
dont be steve perry sara. youre smart enough to know what formula you had. if you get it maybee you can convince those other guys to play. you guys split and i miss you . we miss you.i wish u only knew the hights u were about to hit.
It's an Octave Mandolin. Not a bouzouki. Not a mandola. An octave mandolin. It's tuned the same as a mandolin, but one octave lower. I own 3 of them, a Weber, a Luna, and a Trinity College.
Robert Trujillo! I really like Nickel Creek but just found this. He is way too good for Metallica imo. Nice to see his range of musical tastes though.
Sadly, Vevo seems to have ruined the listening experience with this song, as they've done with others (try listening to their version of Andy Mckee's cover of Africa, then listen to the original Candyrat version....'nuff said). Prior to Vevo, you could have listened to this great song without the advertising. At least they bought the good version of the video.
@mickoooo123 OK OK I GET IT PEOPLE IT'S A BOZOUKI, STOP GIVING ME COMMENTS ABOUT HOW IT'S NOT A MANDOLIN. i swear you're the 10th person to tell me that. I freaking get it, leave me alone

Actually, it's a bazooki. In essence, the same as a mandolin, just larger scale and each string pair is an octave lower than the mandolins.
Firequacker 1 year ago
It is more likely an octave mandolin, the bouzouki usually has the lower strings tuned in octave pairs, the higher strings doubled.
