  • Ending 1: This ending here (you'll get this one if you crashed epoch, just don't complete the black omen when you do this or you'll get ending 2)

Ending 2: Finding Crono's mom (if you completed the black omen)

    Ending 3: Getting Crono Back

(Note: these endings alternate depending on if you have Magus in your group or not)

Ending 4: Regular ending (must be around when you first enter the end of time)

  • Ending 5: Alternate present day. (new game+ save the queen from 600 A.D. then enter the telepod portal and defeat Lavos.)

Ending 6: Marle & Lucca's opinion of guys (when Schala enters the Queen's room don't enter, face Lavos and defeat him.)

Ending 7: Staff sprite personal thanks. (new game+ when you enter the telepod while Lucca's show is going you can even enter as Crono alone or with Marle OR Defeat the harder version of Lavos at the undersea palace.)

  • About Ending 3: Lose to Lavos at the undersea palace then defeat Lavos without bringing Crono back.

  • Boy what a great ending! I think i'll plug my super nintendo right now just to see it again on the tv like i did back then!

  • To the idiots who do not like this video are fans of Justin Gayber :unhappy:

  • Just in case, rate down my previous comment to hide it because it contains spoilers. Read it at

    your own risk.

  • If you play the DS version, you'll see... (WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT DAMNIT!) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Crono and Marle get married. They did not die.
  • This was really the "best" ending? This is the ending I got the only time I actually finished the game... good game, eh?

I always wanted to see more, but Lavos was a tough mother...

Fun fact: Credits font sort of looks like the Sonic 3 font.

  • this game deserves a 10/10

  • The hero Randi the young boy (secret of mana) and Atreyu, a warrior from the Plains People (never ending story) will definitely leave its mark as classic in the videogame and film industry. The secret of hunting in the secret of mana world lies within the hunting of the the purple buffalo.

  • Secret of mana has the game elements of Chrono Trigger which makes it a worthy videogame for all ages.

The combination of the flying Flammie and Falkor the luck dragon from The Never ending story has always found ways to put smile on childrens faces.

  • Wow, Lavos disliked this

  • The best ending in the story

    Who didn't cry with this?

  • It just seems to me that when it was squaresoft they really put their heart and souls into their games they made such awsome classics like chrono trigger and such but ever since they became square enix all they seem to care about is making money it doesnt matter that their product is halfassed

  • I was depressed for a whole week after beating this game. There will never be an RPG as good as this one.

  • beatiful

  • i always wondered... how the hell do they get down without dying once all the balloons pop? unless lucca gets Epoch to save them before they fall...

  • I always wondered how they got down but then i remembered that chrono had a sword and could slice the balloon strings. Hopefully before he passed out from the lack of oxygen up there o:

  • Those SNES endings. LttP, Earthbound, FF6, and of course CT beautiful.

  • Whenever I see this game, I get the feeling that the developers did not care about money or profit when making this game. . .they just put their all their heart and soul into making the best damned video game that they possibly could, not caring about anything else in the meantime. . . so much energy and passion, it's incredible

  • @Akyla0177 even reading your comment almost made me cry...(and I'm a 29 yr old GUY!).

I don't know if it's the game, the ending, the nostalgia, or all of 'em combined,

but god....how I miss this game so much, and also those simpler times in life!

I never could fathom the real-working world right now, chasing for money etc...that's NOT living! fuck it...

  • @nikiwonoto What was the start of all this? When did the cogs of fate begin to turn? Perhaps it is impossible to grap that answern now, From deep within the flow of time... But, for a certainty, back then, We loved so many, yet hated so much, We hurt others and were hurt ourselves... Yet even then, we ran like the wind, Wilst our laughter echoed, Under cerulean skies...
  • Such a beautiful ending to a beautiful game. Imagine watching an ending like this on the silver screen. If that happens, everyone in the theatre would demand they rewind and play it again.

  • i still believe this is the BEST RPG ever made...

  • The best ending there has ever been

  • im happy i had this ending the very first time i finished CT.

  • I took notice of Sonic the Hedgehog newest videogame Sonic Colors. In a particilar place in a stage there are balloons you can collect. That put a smile on my face

  • this ending makes me want to cry even if a little bit

  • Putting aside the missing Schala affair, this is the only ending that makes me feel the cycle is somehow far more complete rather than other endings

  • Very romatic ending. its cute too :D

  • so wait, which ending is the best one?

  • @Jimbogreenred there really is no "best ending" in my opinion, the one you got first is the best ending. it gives you a since of compleation, better than any other could.

  • @qwertlolo except if is the ending where you lose in the final battle and the world is destroyed and the future refuses to change... thank god i got the normal ending where chrono's mom gets into the portal and you gotta save her and shit, kinda looks like an opening to a sequel... that was entirely different than the actual sequel...

  • i'd say the best ending. most romantic game ending.

  • one less on we have all learned 2day is that crono was the first man on the moon

  • I hate this ending. It mean CT if over. With the Epoch, there is still a chance of a CT 2.

  • in one ending i think crono dies i cried so much i dont know wy i mean its just a game.

  • 2 things I thought when I saw this ending

    1) wow... Crono is strong

2)Lucca you have a gun... SHOOT EM DOWN!!

my cynicism aside, absolutely adorable story book ending and one of my personal favorites. Very good game!!

  • @bkos40205

Shoot them down? You've never shot a gun have you? o-o You could hit them! Shooting in the air at night at my friends is not something I'd hope I ever had to do! I'd wish them a fun ride before I do that. XD

  • this songs translates so well time, like my childhood time when i played CT 4 the first time, and the time s spent with my friends who also played it chatting about the game and guessing what could happen 2 the characters after the end, hum, dont know cannot describe exactely, maybe it's just nostalgia...

  • i just beat the game today and i got this ending lol i know i took me a long time but i couldnt beat lavos as a kid so i pickd up C.T and playd it again it was funn good memorys lol

  • love the music...

  • I found this to be the best version of the ending. The Epoch one is great, too, but this one is more romantic and is just an overall happier feeling ending. Not to mention the music is really great.

3:31 is the part (because of the song) that made me tear up. It's so slow and saddening... This was definitely one of the best games I have ever played (and it's actually the only RPG I've ever bothered to finish playing).

  • best ending version in my opinion.

  • Coluld you imagine if they made a movie with this ending over the credits? BTW Crono Trigger is one of the greatest games I've ever played.

  • @eugene680

You don't know how badly I wished some movies had the kind of endings done in games. They just feel so incomplete half the time. While I like the ending of light hearted movies, other movies could use an ending like this.

  • I love it when they see all their others but when love is in the air this is good.

  • you know....the pixels have a charm of there own.

  • This is my first time seeing this version. I've always used the portal in the end of time to fight Lavos or I just wait and fight him after completing the Black Omen sidequest so I get the Epoch ending.

Best game I ever played in all my life. Thank you Square-Enix.

  • Don't thank Square-Enix, they had nothing to do with it. Squaresoft was the one that made this game the classic it is.

  • Beautiful, Wonderful !

I love this Game, I love this Music...

  • One of best games ever!! Anyone can tell me how I get this ending??

  • When you're at the end of the game you need to engage Lavos by going to 1999 AD.

  • One of the most beautiful game endings EVER.

  • Shouldn't the baloons have popped due to the air pressure within them being greater than around them at such high altitude?

  • yeah, i definetly agree that this is the best ending. isn't there another one like this?

  • there is one with just Marle with the balloon and there is the one where Chrono and Marle ride the epoch. I think the epoch or this one are the most beautiful endings :).

  • I got this ending the first time I played. I wept when this game was over... I was smiling so much that I didn't realize i was crying until my tears fell onto my hand still clutching the controller. Then, I realized it was done... and i put the controller down and continued to cry. CT is the best game I have ever played.

  • I'll agree. The story and characters themselves had become like close friends; I didn't want it to end. The music and character themes--both musical and story-related--are memorable if not legendary. Thank goodness for New Game +.

  • Seriously, I almost cried to, it was over, and that was so sad to me, and this music, really, drove that home. I really relate.

  • @ABCMeEFG Mitsuda cried as well when he saw the ending for the first time after they finished programming the game.

  • @ABCMeEFG same hear man, same hear.

  • @ABCMeEFG even reading your comment almost made me cry...(and I'm a 29 yr old GUY!).

I don't know if it's the game, the ending, the nostalgia, or all of 'em combined,

but god....how I miss this game so much, and also those simpler times in life!

I never could fathom the real-working world right now, chasing for money etc...that's NOT living! fuck it...

  • @nikiwonoto Your not left out! I just turned 27 and nearly weeping.

  • @nikiwonoto Sorry, I meant You're not Your. haha

  • @ABCMeEFG

I almost cried too all because of Mitsuda's ingenious composition. It's a relatively happy ending though compared to Terranigma. Terranigma had both a sad ending and sad music. :' (

  • crashing epoch? how?

  • you go to 1999 with epoch, then crash it into lavos instead of escaping

  • I just got that ending on the ds version and if you get the standerd ending it does the cutscene where chrono and marle get maried and when i got this ending it did the cutscene! didn't they die!?

  • Play the proper SNES version, and then never play any other game in the series. Everything else is just a stain on this masterpiece.

  • well the ds is almost like this version so i wouldnt call that a stain but Chrono Cross is definitly a big unremovable stain to this

  • Rewritten script that removes all personality and makes the game more dark and dreary like the post-Woolsey FFs, two terribly designed dungeons leading to a pathetically easy "superboss" and HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE ending, and the monster raising minigame wasn't even that much fun. It's the fact they masqueraded it as CT itself that really makes it a stain. Now there are thousands of people that will play that and feel like they don't need to play the SNES version.

  • good call

these companies trying to make one last cash grab, definately hurt the titles they first put out.. and that breaks the true gamers' hearts.

  • Chrono Cross is a good game in its own right, in my honest opinion.

  • I never got this ending I don't think. I always get the one where they're at the last night of the fair and the cat goes through the time things, and then Chrono's mother follows it, and so everyone goes off to find her.

You don't get that ending unless you can't rescue the maiden in that game in the tent at the fair.

Which I never could - so the cat starved while I was away.

  • no... what you have to do to get that ending is to use epoch and crash it into lavos (you have to travel in epoch to the "end of time"). Or at least that's what i remember.

  • you have to get chrono back from death peak i think then use the epoch and select the time 1999

  • yeah It's kinda romantic, but when you think about it, how they ever got down ? I don't really want to know :S lol that's probably why there never was a sequel HAHA !

  • Un des meilleurs épilogues de tous les temps. Chrono Trigger est un chef d'oeuvre de savoir-faire et de sensibilité artistique : son univers musical est particulièrement prégnant Une référence historique.

  • ...Wow!

Chrono and Marle together being lifted up high by balloons. With the long storyline, perfect character development, and the most magical music score, no other happy ending, whether it's a video game, movie, or a book can beat that magical and romantic ending!

If you played this game as a kid, like I did, then this ending will change your life.

Chrono Trigger is the best! Screw the rest!

    ...and I mean it

  • truely epic and legendary enough said

  • How in THE UNIVERSE!! did Crono's arms not get tired from holding those freakin' balloons for all that time? Also, where the HELL did they land??

  • that's why there's no sequel :D LOL

  • very true LOL ah well, at least they died together HAHA!

  • Never played Chrono Cross then?

  • Well Chrono Cross isn't an actual SEQUEL to this story...I always saw it as a different story with some similarities. I heard you could find Chrono Marle and Luccas ghosts but I never witnessed it myself

  • the ruins to the east in the time line where Serge died. That's where I found the Lucca, Crono, and Marle ghosts. They were the little kids that were circling you before you had to battle the boss in that area.

  • I actually played cross before trigger. It's right near the final boss when you see Chrono Marle and Lucca. They appear as little kids though. And true, it's no sequal. It's just a story with a bunch of ties (such as that baby Lucca picks up at the end).

  • "CHRONO CROSS" is the sequel, for play station. But i think is not wit the same characters from chrono triger

  • This was my first ending. I love this ending and the music nearly made me cry. I love the ending theme so much.

  • BEST ENDING EVER!!!

  • This was the first ending I got. I cried!

It probably was because I was a child yet when I played it and I had been playing the game 8 hours per day during 3 days. And the nostalgic music helped it.

Well... I just know I cried!

Best ending of Chrono Trigger (and of games in general) EVER!

  • Dang, balloon makers back in 1000 A.D. weren't fucking around

  • LOL!!!!

  • @JPCWhutwhut old man of UP learned something from this

  • "Well we might as well enjoy the ride before the atmospheric pressure pops these balloons and we plummet to our death."

  • @Ninjujitsu LOL they'll probably survive. hey, if characters can be launched from a cannon to their destinations without a safety net like secret of mana, i'm sure CT characters can fall without breaking bones

  • one of the most most beautiful ending ever

who cares about movies and special effects, i remember the days pixel graphics and good music actually touched hearts T__T

  • You can also let magus drive the Epoch and he'll crash it when you let him use it to fight larvos.

  • "Make Epoch crash"? how????

  • You have to fly to 1999, and then you choose the appropriate action, and you fly it into his maw. This can let you bypass fighting his mouth.

  • oh my god

That was seriously the coolest way ever to save the world and history/time.

...Probably not as cool as entering a bucket, though! :D

  • Yeah for Mode 7 Graphics is was not bad. I wonder if it will be updated for the DS version. I know they are using the PS1 anime custscenes for the DS remake, but I wonder if they will add anything new. I know the script is getting overhauled, so they may have other surprises!

  • This is the ending I got and remember, and definitely the best.

Why use the lame bucket to go to Lavos when you can make an epic scene by using the Epoch as a rocket?

Plus the balloons make for a cooler ending.

  • This was the second ending i got ! the best in my opinion~ The music and romance jsut ames you want to take you girls into the skies while holding onto a bunch of balloons:D!

  • Beautiful description too!

  • I agree. This is the very best ending...still brings a tear to my eye.
