YOUTUBE do you really think I am going to be interested in adverts that flash up over the content I am trying to watch? Really? Honestly? No I'm not... so YouTube why don't you feck off with your ad's!
Conditions are not to strong at all (they all have nice foward speeds once airborne), they simply have no control on their wings. almost all did the same mistakes: did not move toward the wing and did not brake it enough. The guy at 1.22 appearently never heard about reverse launching :D
@1957Aubrey i remember seeing one guy on a motorised paraglider flying above me, i was thinking i might try it cause it looked fun, then i saw in the newspaper the next day he crashed and died, he was only 28 :(
The weather conditions are absolutely challenging but the pilots do not seem very professional either.. Take off errors happen for each pilot but isn't this a little bit too much?
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a familliar sight in Slovenia but not from Slovenians... Chech schools come here to practise flying and they make loads of accidents!!!
Ground-handling is really important, sometimes its boring to ground handle but you'll feel so much more confident in your take-offs and landings, and even when you're flying you'll feel your wing more and understand what it's doing. A top grade pilot is a pilot that can fly well and take-off and land smoothly even in rough conditions(and also understands when it's not worth it).
These guys should be ridge soaring on the coast, not mountain thermaling in heavy winds! The person at 1:23 obviously has no idea how to handle a wing. It would be funny if it weren't so life-threatening.
the vid title says disaster launches, but a few were not bad, given the strong wind conditions. I actually learned some from watching theese launches; thank you for uploading this vid.
as a HG pilot, watching these floppy wings narrowly avoid killing their pilot scares the shit outa me.. i'll fly my HG anyday in those conditions, but a floppy part-time wing? Pfff, stuff that!
I cannot believe that all these take-offs are happening what looks like to be on the same site. There must have been very thermic or turbulant conditions...or just very poor pilots. When i see take-offs like this, I pack my glider and look for a safer site or conditions to fly.
We had great instructors and they taught us ground handling, ground handling, and more ground handling. At the time we all thought this is boring we just want to fly. Like many things in life we'd didn't appreciate what they we trying to instill in us. So, lots of ground handling makes good paraglider pilots...
Amazing that there was not a serious accident more by luck than good judgement I would guess as one other person said a very good reason to fly hang gliders
Most of these guys are really bad pilots, flying outside of their safe conditions. No reason not to try PG... don't let others put you off. I know if I did that I would have stopped a long time ago.
Thank you for this very instructive material on how not to launch. Great for students in paragliding schools. Otherwise, it looks like a good (and pretty!) launching site (Mt Kobala, Slovenia).
Assume you DID take off, against all rationality, and you are up 200ft in the air and you notice the wind speed is the trim speed... WHAT DO YOU DO? Big ears to get down? Speed bar to get foreward? Keep trim to get up, hoping the air would be slower farther upwards? I wouldn't know what I'd do.
I think this must be the costalunga in Bassano, we were not allowed to fly there after 12 oclock due to the heavy thermals. And now I understand why, these guys are probably polish , saw them there do al kind of stuff.
Dabei wäre es so gemütlich und stressfrei gewesen 2-3 Stunden am kühlen Wasser der Soca abzuwarten dass es ruhiger wird!! oder im Tal Grounghandling zu üben!!!!
U all with your "return to school" are so clever... Everybody is just learning - for the whole life. Mote tougher the conditions the more u learn? Hey asshole! We are not in a bank.
Paragliding is learning only slowly step after step!!! Every good pilot knows that. And every bad experience doesnt make u better.. it makes u even more worse!
More tougher the conditions the more u learn!- YES exactly, of course. Not only in paragliding but everywhere in life - is this really new for u? And every bad experience does not makes u really better - I never wrote that, but gives u experiences to avoid that second time! The only bad thing in PG is - there is no much space for bad experiences... But the priority of my comment was not about that, but "Everybody is just learning" - this is what I wanted to write.

Watch it while listening this: "Brimful of Asha by Cornershop -(Fatboy Slim remix version)" (the original sound)
To watch it this way, it's a full another feeling... Like the wind dances with the gliders, and the pilots are just jerked by the lines... :D

Some scary looking launches. They need a hell of alot more ground practice in strong winds. Thats how I learned and am a much better pilot for it.

Bad things happen on hang gliders as well. I know. I have crashed both.
I think those launches say more about the pilots than what they are flying.
Trying to forward launch at mid day into the peek of a thermal cycle is not a terribly good choice.
