  • @sailemur update : Diskotek acquired the rights for the DVD in North America , under the The title The Sea Prince and the Fire Child , not all DVD versions are bootlegs , when you commented 4 years ago it was true , but now it's released on DVD legit.

  • Great anime! Love the music!

  • @nazipose72z It always bothered me a bit, maybe not as much as the cousin thing but I guess being god like deities...it dun matter

  • The music is excellent. Is it Sugiyama san?

  • Wow, the score in this trailer. Just the visual send chill up my spine. And tears to my eyes. So Legend of Sirius was the original name. Well, this is going on my pre-order list for Oct. 26th of this year. Some of the these visuals remind me of Ponyo a bit.

  • I saw this over a friend's house back in the 1980's but could never remember the name. I just found it about 2 years ago. Such a great movie.

  • Wow this almost looks like disney, definitely going to check this one out!

  • 小学生の頃、姉と一緒に映画館で観ました。

    ふたりとも目が真っ赤に腫れ上げるほど

    泣きはらして帰宅したものです。

  • sub Spanish ? plase?????

  • the music for this Movie is composed By Koichi Sugiyama AKA The Dragon quest Guy

  • Is this somewhere in english?

  • on youtube

  • @KairaB The film was picked up 2 years ago in 2009 by Discotek Video which released it on DVD, you might be able to special order it a bookstore.

  • @MasterLupin03 thanks

  • I noticed the same thing. I wonder if it is intentional. The Sea Prince is composed of colors we associate with fire, while the Fire Child is composed of the colors we associate with water. Perhaps that is why Malta and Sirius are drawn to one another, because each contains elements of the other.

  • It's their coloring that has you thinking that way, like Malta's blue hair, but then again flames can be blue.

  • Really beautiful!

  • 音楽が・・・ど、ど、ど、ど、ドラクエだーーー

  • anybody remember the name of the show where the little boy lived all alone on a small planet and he used a net to catch comets to ride? his friend was a girl living inside a flower....it's from the 80's

  • it was called "The Little Prince", it was one of my favorites too. There's even an episode here on Youtube!

  • The DVDs also came out. I have the whole set. I bet they would be very easy for you to find.

  • as a kid I had an 80's anime version of TLM

    -she was blond

    -no seashell bikini top

    -talking evil cat

-mermaid turned human had to kill the prince and drip his blood on her feet to get her tail back before dawn, but she didn't and turned to seafoam.

  • I've seen it before:). The end is so sad, yet I still like it.

  • @nightwatcher45 Toei's Little Mermaid it's quite rare , released on VHS by company called StarMaker , which was so cheap they recorded the tapes on SLP 6 hour mode to save on tapes .

  • @MasterLupin03 I only watched twice, once when i was four and another time when i was eighteen. Movie was moving but tragically unforgettable like a pure love epic.

  • and they'd better not add any musical numbers either!

  • Anybody care to translate the trailer to English? This happened to catch my eye, I have no clue what it's about really.

  • I have this film in English. It's basically like Romeo and Juliet, only "Romeo" is Syrius(the guy with red hair) and "Juliet" is Malta(the blue fairy girl). The gods of fire and water have always hated each other, but Syrius and Malta fall in love and decide to run away together. Hope that helps^^

  • I actually went ahead and watched the movie on YouTube in English. Thank you for posting that though.

  • no problem^^ how's the movie?

  • I wish there a S.E. edition with both the original track and dubbed track

  • there's a two-disc edition on ebay if you're lucky^^

  • looks realy old. and it need ninjas ^^

  • this movie is in English. It's called the sea prince and the fire child.

  • it's upon youtube right now*^_^*

  • They could still try now^^

  • Lol Hyperia's hair is so huge it gets cut off the screenXD

  • English dub was very good for it's day and on the contrary the VHS version was released prior to 1991, as I acquired it during my late 80s anime binge.

This film ranks high with all who see it,it was SANRIOs crowning achievement. Certainly Disney was influenced by this film It's a shame that Disney isn't acquiring the film rights and doing this a DVD release,as they did with Miyazaki's.Can you imagine if they were to re-make this with modern animation?

  • Yeah, there may have been a real influence from this film in "The Little Mermaid". There are some BIG similarites if you watch both films closely^^.

  • OMG! I just found out the actor who did Sirius in the English dub is Tony Oliver: the same guy playing Rick Hunter in Robotech! (just a shoutout to all you anime fans out there^^)

  • This movie came out 9 years before "The Little Mermaid", so if anyone was influenced, it was Disney. It did not have an official US release till 1991. What I found in the, "Lost in the Translation" subject of the movie, Biblble referred to Sirius as his brother, "Aniki" meaning they could have actually been brothers, or they were pretty close friends. Piale is also very affectionate with Malta. It could be interpreted as inappropriate, but I think the ending made that fact moot.

  • One thing's for sure: there is one line in this movie that was exaclt in "The Little Mermaid". It's when Bibble says "Jumping jellyfish!", the same line Sebastian said 9 years laterO.O! Yep, Disney was definitely influenced.

Somehow, that scene where Syrius first sees Malta and the Holy

Flame always reminds me of when Ariel first sees EricO.O...

  • Well, Hata Masami, this film's director, was influenced by Disney's "Fantasia", which is apparent here as well as in his later "Yosei Florence/A Journey Through Fairy Land" (1985).

  • Never saw it (what's it about?)

  • It's available for purchase as "A Journey Through Fairy Land" about a promising young musician who meets a flower fairy named Florence who takes them to her world where flowers and music blend. It's like Disney's "Fantasia".

Have you also seen Hata Masami's "Bell of Chirin/Ringing Bell" (1978)?

  • Yep, saw it *shudder*

  • Have you noticed most Sanrio films have a big Fantasia influence. There's Fairy Florence with the fowers/music, then this movie with the little fire fairies, but the most obvious Fantasia influence is in "Winds of Change/Orpheus of he Stars" (1975).(I think Winds of Change is just Fantasia with pop music instead of classical lol)

  • I have the soundtrack to "Winds of Change" by Alec R. Costandinos.

  • OMG, I just thought of something: I know this movie is not like "The Little Mermaid" (sailemur had told me already^^) but I've just noticed the shocking parallels between Syrius and Ariel: (you probably know if you've seen the movie)

    1)Both live in the sea

    2)Both are 16 yrs old

    3)Both are royalty

    4)Both have a little companion

5)thier dad is king of the sea

    6)Both fall in love with a surface-dweller

    7)Both have red hair!

I'm not trying to convince anybody, I'm just begin open-minded^^

  • I'd love to see how the live-action version would do for kidsXP (lol)

  • HA HA HA You made my dayXD There's ANOTHER reason Disney shouldn't do this filmXD

  • Now I know why Malta "dumped" Syrius(who'd want to date their own cousin?)XD

  • In that case, how would they film Malta's "transformation"?XD

  • If only I had a devianart membership...damn those pesky school finals>:(

  • You can always get it on eBay, that's where I got my DVD for Christmas. Hope that helps^^

  • Yeah, I can just see how Disney would film the endingXD

And another thing, it's kinda similar to films like "the Little Mermaid" and "Pocahontas" (watch the movie and you'll see why) so it wouldn't even be that original:P Actually I'd like for a live-action version of this film, that would make MY day( I wonder who would play Syrius:D):D

  • well, romeo and juliet inspired the 2 at least..right?

  • Thanks!:) (which version I have 2)

  • OMG I was just thinking the same thing!!! It makes sense, both films are based on Romeo and Juliet!:D

  • It WAS fun, it just kinda shows what I'm saying at the same time^^

  • Imagine if he did XD

  • You could have just said you disagree.....

  • OMG it does! You know the lyrics to "Part of Your World" fit Syrius and Malta perfectly. I even made an amv as proof.

  • In romeo and juliet or the little mermaid?O.O

  • I knowO_O...

  • :(...

  • I agree, even though I HATE the part where Syrius is all "NNOOOOOOO!!! IT'S NOT OVER NNNOOOOOOOO!!!!"-_- Don't you sometimes just hate it when boys overreact? I know it's supposed to be sad but it can get annoying after a while.

  • Wait-first you agree with me then you disagreee with me. WHAT?

  • I'm not saying it's a rehash of "The Little Mermaid". There's just some (very)strong similarities if you've seen both films. Besides, there were lots of things in the movie that WEREN'T in Romeo and Juliet. Oh and there's no Tybalt or Benvolio either. Just the VERY baisc concepts like the dying and stuff.

  • I should know because we're reading Romeo and Juliet in class:)

  • Yeah, and Oceanus is just King Triton with a dragon's head

  • This was in the UNCUT version(no kidding you can find it on ebay)

  • Yeah, that and the part where the sea prince is touching the fire child's boobsXP

  • That and one on "Under the Sea" :D

  • This is even better than Little Mermaid....and I LOVE Little Mermaid. Thanks for the memories...I've been trying to look for a copy of this, as I had watched this on Betamax back in the 80s. It is absolutely STUNNING.

  • Wow since you love both films, I happen to have 2 amvs of this movie with songs from "The Little Mermaid". Check it out!:D (don't forget to comment)

  • You can get in on eBay.

  • Did I say "but"? I meant "buy"! SorryXD

  • "The Legend of Sirius" would make an excellent opera if anyone can get the rights to adapt it for the stage.

  • It's already a stage musical at Puroland. You can always but it on DVD.^^

  • Good! I already have it on VHS. :)

  • If you go to the "Believe" show at Sanrio Puroland, you'll find people dressed up as Sirius and Malta...singing and dancing!!!

  • Do you think you could the whole movie? It'd be a geat favor to the unfortunate ones who don't own it. I love this movie too! In fact I'm posting a series of AMVs on the film, I have one up right now:D!

  • You can get an unofficial dvd copy at sell dot com. Search "the sea prince," The quality is decent and is dubbed in English.

  • Nuts to that. If anyone needs to know how to get ahold of a DVD in great quality without resorting to purchasing from bootleggers, send me a PM.

  • I never heard of this film and am a big classic anime/cartoon movie fan! now I have to see this! looks very beautiful! sounds very beautiful! and it sort of reminds me of Disney's Fantasia a little bit...

  • If you watch the film you'll find it's a LOT like Disney's "The Little Mermaid"...

  • I absoulutly love just lovvvveeee The Little Mermaid!! Now this it makes me want to see it even more since how you described it:)

  • thanks! I have an 2 amvs of this film with the song "Part of Your World". Wanna see? (Don't forget to comment).

  • So does this have the happy ending or the depressing True to the story Hans Christain Anderson ending?

  • *spoiler*The Hans Christian Anderson Ending

  • i remember that too... my mom refused me to watch it ever again...*sulk* i don't get why they haven't made this into DVD...

  • a work of art-not yet on dvd.

    what is the hold up?

  • Very Cool movie and yes it is out there in english. The japanese do such great animation work, they also did the Last Unicorn....

  • I would love to get the soundtrack to this. Does it exiist?

  • Of course it does. I own a copy of the LP soundtrack myself. Want an audio-cassette copy? Just send me an audio-cassette plus $15 including S/H.

  • It looks beautiful, like Miyazaki mixed with Prince Achmed, I'd love to see this, is there a DVD with sufficiently accurate English subs and if not please upload this film.

  • YESSSSSSSSS

again, i was another one obsessed with this as a child!

  • please upload this story!!

    please...

  • somebody upload this please .

  • Does anyone have the trailer to "Chirin no Suzu/Bell of Chirin/Ringing Bell" (1978), also directed by Hata Masami?

  • The first movie my mom taped for me off some channel in Miami and is still in my video cupboard a great movie and totally nostalgic...Thanks

  • OMG I love you for posting this.. I used to watch this everyday when I was about 6! I love this movie!!!! I have been looking for torrents for this..

  • Man this brings back some memories. This was probably one of the first animations I saw as a kid. I recently purchased a used VHS copy of it from Amazon, and I can't wait to see it again.
