  • Jane, is it possible to grind split peas to a fine powder to make an amazing soup with the Vitamix blender? Also, can it work with beans too? OR is there no way around it...you have to cook it first then puree it? Thank you.

  • @TriciaF1000

I don't know, I haven't used legumes and beans uncooked in the VitaMix - anyone?

  • luckily i read your tip Nicolette...I just bought Tumeric yesterday and thought of using it in the blender..good thing I didn't.

  • Jane, I bought butternut squash yesterday & decided give a go. I did not have cumin, peppercorn, & forgot to add salt. I added curry powder, salt, butter spray, & parm cheese in the end. We had to be fast with dinner to catch a movie. It was so easy, so fast, I loved it!! The soup was not as hot as I normally like it (i blended for 4-5 minutes) but that did not bother me. My husband liked it, but based on how I did it, it lacked a little flavor for him. I loved it though. Pure goodness

  • @TriciaF1000

    Pure thanks!

  • Thanks for the recipe! I have been eating butternut squash every single day for the last week. I have been craving it. New recipe....Thanks!

  • @theknuts6

    You're welcome!

  • I would love to try this butternut squash soup recipe. I am receiving my Vitamix on Tuesday. Is it really 4 minutes to blend to get the soup hot? And were the butternut squash seeds raw or did you toast them first? I love your videos by the way. Hope to do some of your recipes soon.

  • @TriciaF1000 Also, is the soup piping hot once it's done?

  • @TriciaF1000

Yes, it's 4 minutes to hot soup. I imagine if you're starting with all cold/chilled ingredients it might take 5...

I did not add the squash seeds to this recipe. I saved them and later lightly toasted them for munching. Those were pumpkin seeds I sprinkled on the soup.

  • Oh, and interesting fact that I just learned yesterday... aparently the peel of butternut and kabocha squash are edible!! Who knew!?

  • One tip though, if you are going to use turmeric (the spice) in anything, add it after everything is done as it will stain your Vitamix container YELLOW!! **sigh... blend and learn I guess**

  • @NicoletteLynnMusic

Try filling your blender with 2 parts white vinegar and one part water and letting it sit several hours. Wash, rinse and dry and see if the yellow come out.

  • @blenditandMendit will try this!! (but will it not be bad for the blade to have the acid in there so long?)

  • @NicoletteLynnMusic

I've cleaned my VitaMix container this way many times and it doesn't affect the blades. Here's a different ratio from VitaMix, which suggests filling the container with water and ONE CUP of vinegar, letting it sit for three hours, then repeating the process and wiping down the inside of the container with a sponge and rinsing well.

  • @blenditandMendit thnak-you so much. I will try this and let you know how it works... it's only a mild yellow stain, but nonetheless...

  • I'm back with some variational reviews... I cooked up my huge spaghetti squash and have been using it in soups the past few days. First time mixed with some raw baby carrots, it wasn't the greatest... but I think the carrots were just bad... next with some broccoli and cauliflower -very good, and just now with just cauliflower and a slice of onion. Very good.

  • I use the Himalayan salt too.. it's a pretty pink!

  • @GoodWhispers

Yes, I love the color, too.

  • Making this today - will be back to give my review!! I'm making a few modifications because I have a buttercup squash not a butternut, and because of its shape it would be very difficult to peel, so I am baking it first and will just scoop out the insides to use.

  • @NicoletteLynnMusic

    Ok, let us know!

  • @blenditandMendit OOOOK!! I've made it, and I think it has changed my life!! SO GOOD! I used one whole buttercup squashed, pre cooked (was about 3.5 cups cut up), I didn't have any fresh onion or garlic so just added onion and garlic powder, cumin, and sea salt herb blend called Herbamare... oh yeah, I also used cayene powder instead of the peppercorns.... I used water as my base. Like you though, I don't really measure anything. But it turned out so silky soft. (cont'd)...

  • (cont'd)... I would almost call it a cross between a mousse and a soup!! I'm now inspired with a million new ideas for soups in my Vitamix.... I think broccoli may be my next victim... I mean, lucky veggie!! (I was also tempted to add in some carrots and celery that I saw in the fridge and change up the cumin for curry powder... maybe I will try that with my spaghetti squash that is STILL sitting around!! So many options and ideas! Thanks for getting me inspired!! Keep posting videos!!

  • @NicoletteLynnMusic

    Hi Nicollette,

    You are now inspiring others!

    :)

    Jane

  • Very nice! I have a buttercup squash and a spaghetti squash that have been sitting around for a looong time that I could try this on! (I LOVE cumin too, so this sounds really good!)

  • @NicoletteLynnMusic

When you make this soup, come back with your review, that way viewers get an opinion of the recipe other than mine :)

  • @blenditandMendit I will for sure!!

  • I cannot stop watching your videos.

  • @JuliRafMardieta

Thanks! When you make a blend come back with your review!

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing. Take care. :)

  • Just made the soup and umm, umm ummm! Delicious! It taste like pumpkin pie. i didn't use union and only added almond milk, 1 teaspoon of mango honey, himalayan salt, black pepper and nutmeg. Let it blend in the Vitamix until warm. So good :-)

  • @amante7777

Mango honey, I have never tried that, sure sounds good - your modifications sound delicious - when I make the pumpkin I think I will go in that direction. Thanks!

    Jane

  • Thanks Jane so much for the tip on how to peel this beast!! I used to go to war with the thing until I saw this clip cos I always thought the rind was too thick for a regular peeler. And cutting it lengthwise never crossed my mind - why didn't I think of that!. The soup was lovely by the way - I just added some fresh cilantro to the mix.

    Thanks again!

  • @sugordon

Mmm... cilantro - what a lovely idea - I love cilantro! Thanks for your review and support. I appreciate it.

    Jane

  • I am so glad I just discovered your channel... This is going to be our dinner tonight :)

  • @Aloenera

Let me know how you liked the butternut squash soup. Next up is pumpkin :)

    Jane

  • @blenditandMendit it was de-li-cious. I served it with a few blanched almonds and chopped cilantro and I received many compliments :-) The consistency is so creamy and the flavors are so perfectly balanced. I love it.

  • @Aloenera

So glad to hear it! Thanks for reviewing. Pumpkin is next :)

  • Hi Jane,

I went butter-nutty today & made this soup.I did add a couple of dates, a little lemon juice and some cinnamon & yum. Then with rest of the squash I made the soup omitting the onion, pepper & garlic. I then added some frozen nectar of the Gods, cinnamon & frozen bananas and had a delicious ice cream. So yes it works! :)

Thank you very much for all of your great ideas.

You are so creative with that amazing blender!

  • @1easyflow

Wow, those are great blends - thank you! You should be making videos with your know how. Butternut ice cream - that's a first. I am going to try it.

    :)

    Jane

  • Hey Jane - how about a squash Ice-cream with the leftovers? ;) What do you think?

  • @pesto12601

I think I never thought of that!

  • How to cut a butternut squash...Use a machete!

  • Thank you Jane!

I will be making this. I just love the way that you present your videos, you are such a natural at it. I have been eating a living diet for many moons . I actually healed my body of cancer from these amazing high energy foods that you speak so highly of. I have learned from you how truly wonderful the vitamix blender really is, I don't even use my juicer for juicing anymore. I make green drinks in the vita mix & strain with a nut milk bag. It is much easier!

    You are Wonderful!

  • @1easyflow

Thank you for your kind words and support and for sharing your story. I appreciate it.

Come back and let me know how you like this soup and if you made it as is or modified it.

    Jane

  • You've given me the courage to attempt the purchase of a Butternut Squash on my next trip to Whole Foods! Can't wait to make this recipe as I love squash soup :-)

  • @amante7777

Wow, that is high praise indeed. Thank you. Let me know how you like it.

    Jane
